I have read good feedback and reviews for both REA and Amsco for AP USH, but for anybody who is familiar with both or considered both, which did you find best and why?

Just get AMSCO. I got both this year and, in comparison, REA wasn’t that good. AMSCO=god for US History.

amsco, hands down. like the person above said, it is god. we referred to it as the bible.

AMSCO + Crash Course – best prep guide combo for the AP USH exam.

my D’s teacher recommended REA . She loved it.She thought it prepared her well. she did very well in AP US Hist. 5 in AP and 790 in SAT

rea got me a 5

There are a few APUSH books that have been mentioned here.
[ol][]United States History—Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination, Second Edition, 2010 Revision
[]AP United States History (REA) 8th Edition by McDuffie/Piggrem ([REA Online - Making The World Smarter](http://www.rea.com/display_prod.cfm?p=0738606251&g=0878916520))

I believe that the last two are the same just the former being an updated edition. The second book that you see there is the REA book which looks similar to the Crash Course book by Larry Krieger but is not.

The books that have been recommended are 1,3 and 4 (3 and 4 since they are essentially almost the same). 2 is said not to be so good from what I infer from other posts.

If you’re getting a book from REA, do not get the one that does not say Crash Course. It must have the words Crash Course.

I used Kaplan and Crash Course and got a 5, but I’ve heard great things about AMSCO.

I had a great teacher all year long, but didn’t remember all of the details of each era/movement, especially the early settlements. I read AMSCO the two days before the test, and it was awesome at refreshing my memory and reteaching me the stuff from the 1600s. Got a 5. I’ve heard Crash Course was great too, but this was after I took the test, so I can’t say anything about that. Of course, if you’re really pressed for time, try Crash Course.

I wouldn’t buy amsco if you are the type to start studying two days before hand, but if you’re not, get both amsco and crash course and you’ll do very well- I used these and got a 5.

I read Crash Course alone in the two days before the test and it was incredibly helpful for cramming; I had a terrible teacher and hadn’t covered the last century at all before reading it, and the book is the only reason that I got a 5. I would definitely recommend it for review in the days leading up to the test, but if you’re looking for a study guide for the long term I would search for something more substantial!

I had the REA 8th Edition (actual prep book, not Crash Course) and did not really enjoy it or find it useful. I bought Crash Course after I heard of all the recommendations and am really glad I got it, since it helped me immensely for the multiple choice portion. I ended up getting a 5, probably mostly due to Crash Course and keeping up with the reading/homework over the year.

Get AMSCO and Crash Course. Like 082349 said, it HAS to be Crash course, not just the REA book. If it doesnt say Crash Course on it dont get it (unless you like wasting money.)

AMSCO and Crash Course is the way to go!

AMSCO and crash course, and that’s all you need.

AMSCO and Crash Course!!!

AMSCO is like the bible for APUSH. Students at my school who had no idea what was going in APUSH read AMSCO the day before the test, pulled 5s.

People have already said this, but I’ll say it again… AMSCO and Crash Course. AMSCO is the perfect supplement to your classroom textbook - it’s clear, relatively concise, and has practice multiple choice quizzes at the end of every chapter, as well as practice DBQs and tips for the essays and DBQs. It’s really good for a thorough review. Crash Course is great for the little details. You can read it in 2 hours, 1 if you’re quick or if you’re skimming, and it covers most of what you need for the multiple choice. However, I think it’s useful for more than just the multiple choice, because the facts are also useful for using in your essays. I really can’t recommend these two books enough! I got a 5 btw :)

AMSCO to learn, Crash Course to review.

GREAT! I’ll be using these two books, no doubt. Thank you all for your insight!
