USABO 2011 Discussion!

it’s not about finding the exams… it’s about reading the books that are recommended. the tests are good to give you an outline of what to expect on the exams, but beyond that, you don’t really need them. be prepared is the best thing you can do.

sorry for posting so much today…

i’m really confused and upset today actually, as i found out that section b was all 1 point. the directions i received with my exam said they were 2 points (and so i spent more time on these than the first section of 1 point questions). other CCers i have talked to have said the same. did i read something wrong?

Hi sMITten, how did you get your score? Did it come in your mail, through your biology teacher, or online? How did you know the cutoff?

I too thought that section A was 1 points each, section B was 2 points each, and Section C was 20 points each… since the test had many repeats, maybe the test makers nullified those points?

the teachers have the scores and cutoff info and high score and average.

my mom called CEE today and talked to the USABO person who said the MC was all 1 point… i don’t think that is right. total points possible was 160.

so the cutoff was 93/160? That seems incredibly low compared to other years because since the USABO started the scores have been between 105 and 125.

Not yet… although my teacher is slightly clueless about it all. Finals results for the 30th?

Hey, congrats to the finalists.

backreads
mike_pavlov, I wouldn’t suggest insulting USABO in this thread. I remember when I was in finals, I had a very interesting conversation with one of the professors that revealed that they do read the yearly CC thread about USABO.

That applies to all of you. Be cautious about what you say on this thread, it’s not as secret as you think.

scores are up on the website now

Lol. I got a 56 on the semifinal. Fail…

Does anyone know the average/other information to put our scores into context?

The high score was 124 and an average of 67. The cutoff was 93.

^ huh, where are all of these statistics posted?
Sometimes there is a distribution of all the scores posted somewhere, but I never know where to find it.

the information is from my teacher

Lol 56, didn’t study at all hahaha. Well, I guess it showed… 11 points below average!

finally got my flight and bus arrangements for Purdue…It still doesn’t feel real that I’m going to camp =)

Hi,
During my search for USABO review questions last year I found this very helpful website:

http://www.ibo.nsysu.edu.tw/IBO%20frontpage/IBO_pass-questions.htm

It has actual IBO Q’s and A’s from 1999-2010 but some are only in Chinese/Japanese/Korean. Hope you guys have fun. If you happen to get to Purdue and meet with the mentors Seungsoo Kim or Jonathan Liang, send them my regard.

72… If only I had studied…

Rhinovirus is another one :)

@Frozeh: Thx a lot for this resource! I wonder why there are so many IBO tests in Chinese yet there’s so little in English that’s released to the public…

I have 2009 open, 2004 and 2006 open. Anyone want to trade?

I may have 2008 semi. Please message.
