So nobody responded to my “chances” thread so can anyone in here tell me my chances: I am a freshmen at Foothill community college majoring in Communications. I have a 3.73
I will have 30.5 semester units and my only extracurricular this year is my part time job-15 hrs/wk. I did have a lot of ec’s in high school though if that makes a difference.

id say you have a shot, if youve showed interest and wrote good essays then why not ?
im not familiar with foothill CC, is it in CA ?
basically, its really hard to say, but id say you have a good chance :)

Yeah it’s in California. Thanks for addressing my comment. I thought my essay was good USC is my top choice so the essay was very much directed toward them. And my short answers were very specific as well

hm… correct me if I’m wrong, communication is am impacted major as USC as far as I know. So…
I’m not sure about the stats of students who got in previous years coz I’m not a communication major. However, if your GPA is above average, your chance is good. Since you barely completed 30 units, I think they still look at your high school transcript and activities.

Does anybody know about the 30 unit rule?
I am confused to whether or not I have to complete 30 units before I apply, or before I enroll to have emphasis on my college work and not high school?

I really hope it is before you enroll.
I wanted to apply as a transfer after my freshman fall semester for Fall 2010.

Hey quick question guys: For some reason I thought that Calc from CCCs doesn’t transfer to USC. Is that true? Or does Calc 1 and Calc 2 transfer just fine? lol. Cause obviously I REALLY don’t want to take that crap again at USC

I’m now a freshman at a CCC and applied this year… I will have ALL requirements including pre-reqs for Marshall done, except for the Category 1 and Diverstiy requirements.

Can I finish those up in the summer and get credit for them?

The Cat. 1 class is an online class, will i still get credit for it?

"USC students: Once you have enrolled at USC, you cannot take transfer courses to fulfill GE or the writing requirement. You may take transfer courses in the summer only to fulfill diversity or foreign language, obtain equivalence to a USC course, or earn elective units. Don’t forget to file a pre-approval form (see Part IV, C.2).

GENERAL EDUCATION:
Students may fulfill GE categories I, II, III, and V with transfer courses taken before starting USC. Categories IV and VI must be taken at USC. One course (or a combination of courses, if indicated by “with”) from each list below satisfies that requirement. The transfer institution department name and appropriate course number or numbers are listed."

It’s kinda vague, but I hope that helps or maybe someone else knows the answer.

I think taking that Category I class online will be okay. As long as it’s not an online lab (lab in person/lecture online), then it should be all right. I’m taking Category V online this semester. I emailed them about taking anatomy lab online last semester, and I was told USC does not like online labs and other students have had a problem with this before.

hey so i’ve been seeing a lot of questions about the 30 unit rule and the answers weren’t very clear.
maybe i’m thinking about something else idk but from what i know theres a 30 unit minimum for transfer applicants who want their college grades to be looked upon more heavily than their high school grades when they’re being considered for acceptance. if you have below that 30 i think they look more at your high school grades

BUT you really should look for yourself on the usc website or email someone at admissions about it rather than take info from people on here because they might not be correct either (including myself! =P) you don’t want to miss out because someone else gave you the wrong info on here ^^

I looked on the website, and it is not clear as to whether or not the 30 units have to be completed before enrolling or before applying.
I was asking here because I figured you guys would know since you all are transferring?
