USC 2009 transfer thread

i think fin.aid does matter, its a private and not need blind so theyre trying to save money like everyone else  not sure how much difference it would make, but it will def. be in your favor  not need finaid that is :)

hehe cool  yea might be  admissions is so weird that its hard to tell  good job though :)

USCPlease777-your stats are awesome as well. I’m embarassed to post mine along side stats like yours! You’re def in! But yes, they will probably SGR you cuz of units. But that’s a good thing! Hopefully I see you there next semester!

uscplease - 12 units last spring

ok so after watching this thread for a couple of days I think its time to join the horde of obsessing applicants…I am absolutely dying with this wait! I didn’t even think to check my status update until I saw all of you guys talking about it and now I check it daily.
So on a side note, while I love USC’s academics and gorgeous campus I am trying to figure out if the fit will work…I am a pretty liberal and devoted student. I study hard, do study groups, enjoy reading, etc, and I hope to have professors I can actually talk with. I also, however, like to party (drinking). Am I doomed if I don’t love football? Maybe I’ll start to once/if I get there. I’m pretty outdoorsy; I like hiking, snowboarding, the beach (duh), photography, stuff like that. Sooo do you guys think the fit could work? I thought it would be a good idea to check what I have recently heard (from pretty liberal diehards so they could easily be biased) about Trojans being conservative football fans who are also good students against what you guys actually know, since I have to assume USC is more diverse than that. If I get in, I just don’t want to take a spot that doesn’t work for me that somebody else will love.

And congratulations to zamela, jennn, and santamonica2!

hopefulcali:

of course there’s always going to be people different from you and it’s all about finding your own little group. i don’t think you can really generalize a whole body of students accurately and then conclude about whether or not you’d fit in.

BUT. USC is not just a school. “it’s a culture” like my boyfriend always says. while football is a huge part of the fall semester hype, it’s not like you’ll be ostracized from the social scene or anything! there’s always something going on at campus and i’m sure you’ll find a lot of people who like the same things you do.

and actually (your interests happen to be VERY similar to mine.) except i love football. =]

hopefulcali,

I’m a pretty liberal type and not really into sports, and I’m still looking forward to bring a part of the USC culture. I’m also kind of outdoorsy, but I don’t play sports. I ride my road bike around the city a lot. While USC might be considered conservative, it is definitely more towards the center, whereas a place like Berkeley could be considered to be pretty far left.

blsdmf - Good luck this year! If I don’t get in, I’ll be trying again next year but still making my move across country.

I messed up one semester a year ago due to extreme family situations, which I’ve explained in my application, but I’m not sure that will help. Pretty much my Film/Theatre/English courses are all A’s. Math, Psych, History… that’s another story.

hopefulcali- No, you’re not doomed. Most people here follow the study hard, party harder mentality, lol. It’s really difficult to fail anything, but it’s also really difficult to ace anything, so you definately have to put in some work to rise above the average.

Football is definately an activity that’s most fun with friends and more social than for the sports fanatic. A lot of people show up, cheer on the team and leave by half time or the third quarter when the win is so obvious it’s ridiculous. I never have tho and I went in knowing that we were awesome at football but not understanding anything about the game or caring particularly for it. It’s more of a school spirit/pride thing for me. :)
