USC 2009 transfer thread

aaam90,

you’re so hopeful! I haven’t received a rejection letter yet (5 acceptance letters, thus far). If I get into USC and Berkeley, it will be a hard battle to choose which school to get into. UCLA is my dream school (I got in), USC’s pre-law program – I think it way better than UCLA. Biased opinion because I’ve been active with their pre-law events. Plus, they have a new major that goes hand-in-hand with my human rights activism. And Cal is the ultimate achievement ever, if I get accepted.

Us college confidential users are so obsessed with school.

@aaam90: here is my stats

TOEFL: 102 (not so good and don’t have time to retake it
SAT: The schools don’t ask for SAT because I have more than 30 collegiate units
GPA: 3.81 (BIG improvement from two failed Pre Calc to solid 4.0 for Calc I, II and III

EC:

A foreign exchange student during 11th grade in AR, 72106

Founder and President of Vietnamese Student Association (two years, awarded as a dedicated leader)

Vice-President of Scholarships of Phi Theta Kappa at my CC, National Honor Society (in progress)

Club Officers’ assistant of the Global Volunteer Club (one year) -Go visit nursing homes and elementary schools, clean up Jetty Island’s shoreline…
and a lot more =.=

:( I’m worried, since I’m only taking one course which is Astronomy 100, I don’t want a SGR. That would be a disaster and I hate…hate…hate… waiting >.<

jennn, I also want to look into the PPL major. I fell in love when I read the course listing, ha. We get to take a class at Gould. :D

well jennn, honestly, you sound like an amazing student and whatever school you end up attending, i’m sure you will do well. i want to do pre-law too! and i also like the PPL major. maybe if i get in i could double since i’m only going to be a sophomore.

all three schools are definitely great and prestigious so you can’t really go wrong. but if you’re a football fannnn! you know where to go!! hahaha. but really, that sounds like an ironically horrible dilemma if you get accepted to all three of them. and if you don’t get into SC or Cal, at least UCLA is still amazing.

and Yuta, why are you only taking one course?? your ECs are strong and so is your GPA. (i’m not too knowledgeable about the TOEFL because i’m not a foreign exchange student so maybe they don’t put too much weight on that??) but you’re definitely not getting an SGR, if you were, you would have received the SGR update. (see jocelyne626’s previous post)

grey_syntactics,

Whoever came up with Philosophy, Politics and Law (I read his article, but forgot his name) is a genius! What else would you do with a philosophy major besides teaching… LAW! I wish UCLA and Berkeley had this major.

Also, if you sign up for the USC pre-law thread, they offer mock law lectures time to time. You should really look into that.

oh and just to remind you guys if you are in the mood for ice cream today from 5pm-10pm Baskin Robbins is having their 31cent a scoop thing today so go get some! lol

@aaam90: I’m only taking one course because that’s the only class I have left in order to finish up my associate degree (I’m at a CC) and for the TOEFL, USC only asks for 100  so I’m covered… I sincerely hope we all get in.

I think we should make a list of all the status  (so it’ll be easier to figure out what your next status is gonna be :stuck_out_tongue: )

Jocelyne626,

I’m going to go get some soon! Hahaha.

@ Jocelyne626: Thanks for the ice-cream notice. Is your status as same as mine? I remember reading one of your posts that mentioned the same status.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/704200-usc-transfer-decisions-2009-official-thread.html

Yuta, here is the thread for acceptances, rejections, and SGRs.

wow. has anyone really taken a look at santa_monica2’s application??? i can’t believe USC asked for an SGR!!! the letter of recs from the director, the 4.0, all that volunteer work. that’s crazyy.

its possible santamonica2 had pre-reqs in progress

Yeah, one of the members on here last year had a 3.97 GPA and still got an SGR. Because of the long wait, she ended up transferring to Berkeley. One of the most exasperating things was the order in which they released decisions, but hang in there guys! The decisions are literally a month (or less) away! :)

yeah except for a lot of us sophomores who r gonna get SGRs and have to wait an extra month lol

I have pre-reqs in progress  (math and english). Even with all my application goodies, SCA is still more difficult than most top schools in the world with a 4% acceptance rate.

i am not looking forward to the wait, i can’t think straight knowing that my status can change at any time ahhhh.

i know!! it’s definitely difficult to think straight and with finals next week, that’s not a good mix.

and santa_monica2, i get why you got an SGR now. and wow, 4% is really low. that’s crazy.

wait wat is SCA?

just a thought…i think a lot more people will start getting decisions after May 1st because that is the deadline for 2010’s incoming freshman to notify schools that they will be attending. once USC knows how many committed freshman they have they will probably start sending out more transfer admissions decisions.

School of Cinematic Arts I think.

If anybody read before, (aaam90, you know) about the status update I received, as well as Jocelyne626, does that mean we will not get an SGR? I don’t want one.
