well put airborne

ok i’m like having the worst day of my life right now, and if usc doesn’t bring me some news regarding my financial aid today, i’m going to cry. =|

azizi, just because your FAFSA EFC is 0, it doesn’t mean that your USC EFC is 0. The CSS PROFILE may have screwed you over. :(

this has been a slow week of acceptances/rejections. next week!

chaly, i had applied for FAFSA about 2 months ago, but nothing on my fin. aid page has changed, it still says “none” for each thing. am i supposed to mail/fax them something for the FAFSA?

Marco: you have to fax your parent’s income tax for 2008, including their w2 forms and your income tax return, or a non-filing statement that you can get from their web site.

oh okay, jeez i suck at doing fin. aid, lol. it’s so confusing :/

and thanks chaly!

FatPanda, you around?

haha sry I explained it wrong… the school calculated my EFCto be 10,000 when my mom only makes around 20,000 a year and my old schools EFC is 0. but I wrote an appeal and the counsler said that it will prolly go down 5 thousand dollars. That will make my total loan amount to 10,500 which is affardable for me so it hopefully will work out. By no means did I expect a full ride and I dont want it to come off like that. But as of now im feeling better and waiting on the appeal and am now happy about the financial aid. I just panicked a bit!

just called, still under review

looks like another stressful weekend :D

ok so my status just changed today to we have requested spring grades when it had already changed to we have received spring grades and will forward to committee soon, whats going on? lol

Still under review. They’re now asking for the supplementary app that I was told was going to be too late and that I needn’t bother submitting 4 months ago . ._. I can’t tell if this is a good thing or not.

azazi, im glad for you that they got it sorted out
i was just going to agree with airborne, which i still do
remember ppl, usc is one he-ll of a school, its not just ridiculously good at everything they do, but theyre a top university with awesome prestige and connection networks!
also remember, they calculate that it will cost about 52k to go there, getting off with 10k aint too bad in my book :)

personally, i am getting 20k/year in loans/scholarships from the swedish government(im an intl from sweden), my parents have to come up with the remaining 32k… which luckily they can, but theyre not billionaires, its tough on them… if i could get my cost down to 10k, i would do anything for that… honestly, i would even ‘whore myself out on hollywood and vine’… i just feel so bad that they spend so much money on me… but its an investment :)

good luck everyone with FA/SGR’s/etc i wish you all the best
im currently just glad im in, and i have the possibility to actually go
now im gonna be dedicating time to researching how i can get some grants/scholarships to ease the load off my parents :)

its only that much because of housing costs right? I was hoping tuition and fees would be around 40k.

i saw somewhere that someone applied for housing before they even got an admission decision. should those who are still waiting on a SGR apply for housing too?

yup, tuition and fees are like 37-38k :)

More like 44k.

In deciding whether you can afford to go to any school, including USC, multiply the amount you will have to borrow for the 1st year x 4 & add a little for increase in tuition & other expenses. There is no easy way to afford expensive private schools if you don’t get a “full ride, full need” scholarship/grant and you will be under a massive pile of debt if you just accept knowing you can barely afford year 1 & “expect things to work out” for the fhree follow years. “Hope” is not a financial plan and won’t pay back the loans. You can work some & earn a bit while attending and over the summer but graduating with massive debt is a VERY BAD idea.
