how do you know you’re gonna get a full ride at USC?

i don’t know but i want a full ride =D

My mama works at USC for Marshall in downtown. Too bad it seems like I can’t get into Marshall. Darn my grades for econ >.<

thats my status now: Your application has been forwarded for committee review.

isnt it a weird one ?

@tareeeeeeeeeeeeeeesa -

Your best bet will be to go into a major that you can somehow tie-in to what you really want to do, and minor in your first or second choice major. You will also want to find faculty members in your intended first or second choice majors and endear yourself to them, that way when it’s time to get letters of recommendation for grad school, you can get them from professors who know professors on the graduate admission committee. You will gain a broader education if you do your undergrad work in a separate, yet related discipline, and you will also avoid the redundancy inherent in studying the same subject matter for 5 or 6 years.

For my major, USC will not accept students who went through their BA program into their MFA program. They claim that the two programs are near mirrors of each other, and it would be too redundant for a student to go through both the BA and MFA programs. You may want to keep this in mind as you make your decision. You may also want to check with your specific school to see if this applies to them as well.

As for transferring into Annenberg or Marshall once you get in, it’s a long-shot. The reason they kept you waiting so long is because they really wanted to offer you admission to USC, but they needed to wait until transfers accepted or declined their offers for your intended major. Once all the slots for your first and second choices were filled, they contacted you to talk about a third choice. It is highly unlikely that students who have committed to USC will withdraw. This is especially true since SC is one of the last schools to make decisions in the entire country. What that means is that students have already had a chance to weigh their other options, and once they received their offers from SC, they declined their previous offers.

There is always hope, but I doubt anyone who committed to SC after enduring the infernal wait will reconsider and attend elsewhere.

Good luck.

Thanks for all that info airborne. I’ve heard mixed things about trying to transfer to other majors once accepted but you seem pretty knowledgeable. I wish USC wanted me so bad that I could say I don’t wish to pursue any other majors except communications or business administration, and from there they would have no choice but to have room for me and accept me. Haha what a dream ^__^

it doesn’t even feel like i’m waiting anymore. i’m vicariously living through all of those who were accepted and wondering if i’ll get housing and hoping for a big fin. aid package :D

i’d say hopefully more of us will find out tomorrow, but the wait just keeps growing and growing!

Hey everyone,

Well Marco I am with you on that but i e-mailed my counselor today and he said that we might not find out until mid-July for SGR. I know that is what the letter said but for some reason i was hoping they would tell us sooner and he confirmed that for sure beginning July we will be notified.

yeah, i figured that’s what it was gonna come to.
when i called today i asked what percentage of SGRs are accepted, but he said they don’t keep tabs on that, only that about 25% of transfers are accepted. well…at least we will know our fate in about a month? trying to make that a positive thing but…nah

Yeah its a hard wait but we already waited this long i hope we can get in you and I are like the ones who are mostly posting on this that are SGR, but what is your major?

I’m so glad that you guys called and asked how long it would take. I was wondering the same thing. But I’m just really concerned because I’m waiting on USC to find an apartment near my current school and mid-july is really late. I want USC more than anything but I need to know soon so I can start planning out my future housing conditions for next year.

Yeah I know what you mean i have put a few things on hold for my current university and at this point i have no idea what is going to happen.

has anybody with an sgr gotten an acceptance letter yet?

justchill: A couple SGRs have been accepted. I am unsure of how many though. I know myself and peppamitt were accepted the first week of June.

I received my package on June 4th.
Faxed in my SGR on June 1st (I think)

i applied as undecided and i still am kinda unsure about a major. i want to look more into SCA and Annenberg though. i want it to be something with writing, so my top picks atm are journalism or screenwriting. spending a year at USC would def help with that decision too because they offer so many things, so i would get a better idea on how everything works.

i wonder why they were accepting people when SGRs first started going back to USC, but then they stopped after a week or two. i may be wrong, but that seems like what’s happening on this thread and there are so many more SGRs showing up every day.

^ yeah, sometimes it seems as if they just slowed down A LOT.

Maybe they had a bunch of work-study kids helping them out, but since they are now on summer vacation, have less help?

anyway, they need to hurry up! GIVE ME MY FA!

hmm could be. i hope they aren’t waiting until june 30th to start making decisions again D:

haha yeah they need to get going! we are all too excited/impatient!!

I think it’s totally possible some of us will start to hear the first week in July, and everyone will hear by mid-July - so all hope is not lost! Just another week of waiting :(. I’m grateful for it since I haven’t been able to get my grades in. My last final is tomorrow, hooray!

ahaha they better not wait until june 30th! i mean seriously i need to know! updates please for everyone :D

i like that FA sounds like EFE ^^ most of you dont know who/what EFE is, but yea, i know a few do :P
