USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@daisydaisy, depending on the class, if its a major prereq or something significant to your major, i dont think a B will hurt as much as a W. if anything talk to yoiur professor and see if he/she is willing to help you out. explain to them you wil be transferring etc.

ive had many profs help me when i tell them I want to get an A.

Does anybody know how much having either a family member as a former professor(blood related, of course) or a father/mother that graduated from USC affects your application? I have both so I am just kind of curious if anyone else has a situation similar or knows someone that does.

Thanks!

@rhandler33- did you get a SCion letter?

No I did not. What is that exactly?

since were telling our high school experiences i left highschool at 16 and went to college early due to an acceptance into a gifted program but my gpa is not the highest thanks to an art teacher b+ =[ but i still do not have a status change and i know we should not rely on them but i do and it is freaking me out =[

its like something you get if you have family that went to usc, but you were rejected when you applied out of high school.

Oh! I didn’t apply out of high school; just took the community college route.

hehehe here’s a little diversion that’ll brighten your day a bit while you guys (including me) are anxiously waiting for those decisions to come out!   Enjoy!

Hahaha, that’s awesome.

@rhandler33 - I don’t think legacy affects admissions decisions very much. One of my friends applied to USC and was rejected even though both her parents were USC alumns. She got accepted to NYU though, go figure!

Wait, so how are you guys looking at your status changes? When I log onto oasis it’s strictly financial aid information, no more documents accepted/status.

@daisydaisy log on to USConnect and you should be able to see your status after you click on Admission and then Undergraduate Application. It’s on the bottom of the page.

boo! this is what it says: Thank you for submitting your online application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.

It was different on Oasis, but it’s always been the same on my app. Plus the link on usconnect didn’t work, I had to manually find my application for my status. Am I doing something wrong?

@daisydaisy

I can only access usconnect on Internet Explorer. For some reason, it won’t allow me access to the website when using Firefox.

@Spin03 - They designed it in such a way that it only works with IE. In this day and age that is usually a pretty weak thing to do considering how many people user firefox, chrome, or opera.

Status Change:

Just to try to stir up even the slightest bit of excitement, I just wanted to let you know that my status changed today. This is what it reads:

“We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.”

Man, mine still reads:
We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.

-_-

However, I bet most if not all of our statuses will change in the coming days. :)

I got that status change but would be a little surprised if they ask for a Spring grade request. I say this just because my GPA is pretty high and has been constant throughout all of college.

you guys have probably talked about this before, but does anyone know how much letters of recommendation help with admission? i know that they don’t require them, but i see in the past results that a lot of people submit them. i also heard that they read them but don’t use them for admission… so not sure what to believe

I submitted a LOR but I don’t believe it to have a huge impact on admission; rather, I simply figured it could not hurt my case. Don’t worry if you did not send one- I strongly doubt it will make a substantial difference.
