Hey everyone

So the admissions person told my mother that they were not going to send out any acceptances until May 1st… so I am guessing they made exceptions to that… LIARS!!! haha

I called School of Cinematic Arts today to see if they recieved everything for my application. They told me they haven’t made a decision on any transfers yet. (Interactive Entertainment Major) They also said that they usually start sending out decisions in the middle of May. Looks like I got another agonizing month to wait.

@Rhandler

They told me they hardly even look at the LORCs, especially if they are from teachers at our university. That being said, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have them, and they said they would read them, but I got the feeling they really served no purpose.

why would they say may 1 and then accept at least 3 people in april? I dont know if thats the truth they told you… too many people last year had acceptances in april last year.

I know that is why i called them liars. they probably are just trying to calm people down haha

we should be getting notifications soon. My brother applied for transfer from UC Berkeley last year and got the whole package in mid to late march. They are taking their time this year or something. I spoke to the councelors and they said they wont look at the applications until mid april.

@Lustrous It’s a former professor from USC not from my college

@southoc

again the platform that i’m applying under is already have a proven successful track record in business…even though my grades are mediocore. There are people that come out of marshall business school and don’t make dick… I have already proven success… how is that not fair?

Sorry this is a little late in the convo from earlier today, but

I was soo happy when USC got Dillon Baxter…he was considering going to Oregon, do you know how bad that would have been for the Pac-10 especially with the offense they run…Baxter can essentially play QB, RB, and WR so they can run any play with him. He will definitely do big things. Plus with the addition of the #1 and #3 WR in the country and the #1 TE and Seantrel Henderson USC is going to be stacked in a couple years. The offense is going to be so explosive with those guys and Barkley as QB

@sirownzalot- SCA told me mid-June. I wonder why they said that. Who knows.

@rhandler33- I applied as a freshman with a rec from a donator and got denied.

@NicoleB do you know about how much he donates and what were your stats?

@Tbibbs D-Bax was never going to Oregon it was just a rumor. The team is going to develop into an amazing offense i can’t wait

On the topic of LORs/donors. I’m really impressed with how “unpolitical” USC seems to be when it comes to this type of thing. I haven’t heard of one person who got in because “they knew someone” or something like that. It seems like a lot of people with LORs from famous people, top donors, etc, still don’t necessarily get in. I like that they don’t put too much emphasis on that.

@wghiller I know someone who is getting in because they know George Lucas…they do have a 4.0 GPA though

^^ haha ya he only donated several hundred million to the film school!

Yeah, in that situation you would think they might get admitted regardless of the LOR. That’s a solid GPA. Anyhow, I’m sure there are some exceptions, I was just saying in general it seems like I’ve read about a lot of people who have strong connections and still aren’t locks to be admitted.

I agree with wghiller. Based on what I’ve read, they actually look at the student, not who he or she knows or how many generations of legacy he or she has.

The only effect that legacy/who you know has on an applicant is if the applicant is very,very close to being admitted…that person you know/legacy pushes you over, usually.

@ihateceltics- schools such as Harvard and Princeton don’t even accept transfers. They are freshmen only. Stanford only takes like 20-40 transfers a year if i remember correctly.

@spada100- thats great for you if youre successful outside marshall and for people after marshall, but that doesnt mean anything cuz thats all on you once youre done with school. Im talking about while we are in school and attempting to transfer in. Obviously just because you go to Marshall doesnt mean youre gonna be a success. That is a given. Your career path is proven for business? thats great, go for it then. Im just saying that in my opinion that people who just slide through college with B’s and C’s and get into USC via an unimpacted major and then transferring to the business school from within really is messed up because it takes seats away from those students who are 110% committed to school, who work their butts off everyday and night to get the high gpa, and who really deserve to be there. Im not attacking you, its just my own personal opinion.

@SouthOCtrojan Harvard has started to accept transfers just so you know. There’s even a Harvard Transfer Thread.
