USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I wonder if high school GPA could benefit someone with more than 30 units in college.
My high school GPA was a 3.93.

Any input?

@happydk-it could, you never know. it could show that youre consistent vs. someone whos not. college gpa and prereqs as well as the personal statement are the most important I think.

@SouthOCtrojan
Yeah after I wrote I noticed people’s status changes at all times of the day. But I think the Friday thing is true.

@happydk
It won’t hurt. Are you entering as a Sophomore or Junior?

@dbroncos23-Yea I just noticed that you look correcta bout that… Thats really handy to know once you get your ‘committee is reviewing’ status change! good catch.

@ dbroncos23 and SouthOCtrojan

Appreciate the feedback. I should be entering as a junior.

@SouthOCtrojan
thanks man. always looking for those patterns and trends. haha

@happydk
Generally if you’re entering as a Junior, your high school record won’t have as much weight if you were entering as a Sophomore. Since you GPA is pretty high, then it’s only going to help you out.

my status still says “thank you for submitting your part 2 application” … ***?? i am also CLAS/sociology

@everyone

Quick question. I was reading the transferring guide and USC requires 4 units for a class. I’m confused on what a unit is? I was looking at my community college and it says 3 S.H. I’m guessing S.H. is semester hours. Do those 3 hours translate to 3 credits?

And I thought the pool of sociology applicants was small… they’re all coming out of the woodwork now!

I bet all the sociology majors put FBI agent as their dream job. I know foodmunkee and I are guilty of this!

@dbroncos- 4 units for a class in high school or college? I’m guessing high school since most college classes are 3 units. college is typically 1 unit per hour a week in the classroom. so typically classes can be 1.5 hrs,2x a week…thus, 3 units.

When I say 3 units, I mean SEMESTER UNITS, lol.

@SouthOCtrojan

Well I was looking at the Marshall requirements. I posted a picture below. See how it’s telling me 4 units? Will those 3 semester hours cover those 4 units?

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/9114/marshall.png

[/URL]

dont worry about it. Theyre looking for the courses, not the unit count specifically. they are typically the same across the board.

on Marshall’s undergrad admissions website for transfers it just states the courses, not the transfers. Be more worried about your prereqs being done than the unit count.

@southoctrojan
alright. thanks.

blah i cant wait any longer… I’m looking at the USC store planning the shirts I’m going to get if I get in. Coming from So Cal… I think they should make one that says “I ACTUALLY go to USC”… you’ll get what I mean once football season rolls around.

@cd720- LOL, so true. but you also get the bandwaggon USC haters that come out of the woodwork as soon as they lose or have a close call. its pathetic.

@brianlee hahaha so true dude lol
