@ wghiller

haha I meant your question about nice housing near campus where you could get your own room.

@xdzzrawr: I will tried to explain it to u the best way I can.
Your EFC is 1901. You are definitely are going to receive a Pell Grant.
If means you are getting $1700 for a semester. That is $3400 for a year! guarantee money. idk y it is not 1900 but i got this off my CC’s website for Pell grants.
Idk if u live in Cali, but u would also get an in state grant. It is based on ur EFC and ur grade.
So it is a number label by government to figure out how u would pay for college.
It doesn’t make sense how FAFSA defines EFC because it means Educated Family Contribution, meaning what can you afford to pay. But don’t worry. As long as your EFC is not 11,500 than you are fine.

@turk- I understand your position. However, I feel making an excuse to why I did not do well in that class will only hurt me, rather than help me. The expression goes: “Excuses are like a$$holes, everyone’s got one”. Excuses show a person’s weakness or immaturity/inability to just accept what has happened and do what they can with the resulting consequences.

As I do not have a life-threatening or life changing epic story, there is no point.

I say this because one point I had made in my personal statement (in a nutshell) was that even though I experienced a severe car accident and was injured and struggled emotionally as a result, I never used such events as a crutch. I made no excuses for myself and because of this, I was still able to pull amazing grades.

thats just my personal opinion.

@stargurl93 Thank you so much for your explanation, it makes alot of sense and yea I am a California resident and I just recently changed my school from my current university UCR to USC and they increased my award by 2000$, and now I’m receiving $9708 for USC next year. Also what you said about the atleast $3400 makes sense for the FAFSA Pell Grant because on the site where it has my EFC of 1901, it also says I am eligible to receive a maximum of $3600 in Pell Grant funds, so thanks for clearing that up!

so i went to USC today and I saw where Gateway is and is it super close! I really wish I could afford to live there :/

oh and I got my first USC apparel as an official student and of course it says “I Am A Trojan” haha, I get chills just saying that :)

oh and whoever mentioned Anneberg House, I heard it is really nice, somewhat far but they do have the tram stop there. My friend was pushing me to try to live there if I did live at campus.

I saw a couple of questions about parking at University Gateway, and since I have recently been looking into that very thing I thought I would chime in.

Gateway has paking in the building - I understand that you can park on the same level as your apartment. The cost is $150/month. Very secure and convenient.

USC’s Parking Structure “D” is directly across the street from Gateway. The permit for “D” is $414 per semester (Approx $103/month). This is a convenient and less costly option. [USC Auxiliary Services | Transportation | Parking Rates](http://transportation.usc.edu/guest_services/rates.aspx)

USC also has a Parking Center structure on the other side of the freeway that is $229.50/semester (approx $57/month). There are trams that run back and forth to campus, but I understand they stop at 11pm, so this would not be a good choice if you would be coming in after that time - walking would not be a good idea late at night. [Auxiliary Services | Transportation | Tram Maps & Schedules](http://transportation.usc.edu/transit/routes.aspx)

Comment on FAFSA: If you go to an in state public school, your FAFSA is generally what your family will end up paying for your attendance, including tuition and school room and board. Also has to do with how much federal aid you’ll get because of what it measures. USC uses another calculation set involving a more extensive look at your family’s assets.

Anyone who won’t be attending USC orientation: I forget exactly how to do so but you request a materials packet. According to http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/images/TransferChecklist.pdf you will register for classes after the last orientation session.

Also, go go alamemom and her general helpfulness :D.

What’s the back-door method again?

Hollaaa GOT my acceptance package today !!! Those who havent gotten in, Don’t lose hope! FIGHT ONNN

Also, I’m dumb. I said “your FAFSA” when I totally meant “your FAFSA EFC”. CC needs to let us edit posts whenever.

Marshall …transfer student … i have B.S.in architectural engineering from Korea…and I went to some CC in Seattle…and went to WSU…I want to change my major in accounting…I do really want to go to USC…I know everybody in here feels the same… .my GPA is 3.6 …AND my status is still…Your application has been forwarded for committee review. it’s been a week almost…what do you guys think…

Tried the backdoor method but get: “Your session has timed out. Please login” is this normal for non-accepted applicants?

@TSakai - Backdoor method is not really a good indicator of anything unless your application has been acted upon by the committee and you try it and it displays all of your enrollment information filled in.

gotcha, thanks… been “forwarded” for 3 weeks now. Preparing myself to face the grim news. :(

Trying to stay positive though.

I hear you…I log in every second to see my status get changed or not…oh well…left couple days more…I’m DYING…

I feel bad making so many posts on the same page. Oh well.

eso0915 - First off, yay Korea. Second, remember that everyone’s decision is due June 1. That means they’re rushing to get everything wrapped up so they’re probably especially busy and not worried about status updates. Plus, you’re guaranteed a decision soon so you don’t really need to worry.

TSakai - Most people get “user is not authorized”, “invalid login” or a white screen. I really wouldn’t worry about it, though. The backdoor method can give you a heads up but it’s also unreliable for when it’ll work. Also, try the second link and see if that way is different: https://camel2.usc.edu/AdmCertification/Commit.aspx

@serapher- makes sense about how busy they are and the status changes. Each time I have called them throughout this process they increasingly become much more curt and almost rude to me. The first time I called last year they were extremely helpful and happy. the second time same thing, but as I got into february and march a noticable change occured in their tone and demeanor over the phone. I just called the other day and the guy was soo short with me. Now I dont want to even bother.

Same rule applies to their emails too. The counselors would start off a year ago saying “thank you for contacting us, etc. etc.” and theyd answer my question completely. Then as Id email them, itd get worse and worse as time went by. For example, answering my questions with just the words “we will send to the *** ****** address.” Now I think I’m lucky if I even get an answer to my last email.

what about “invalid login”?

Just searched the thread. Looks like people get invalid login, too. I edited my post to make it more accurate.
