USC 2010 Transfer Thread

No I already got accepted, they never asked for my spring grades. Should I email admissions now or just wait until I send in my final transcripts. It’s not a pre-req either. So… I’m just scared.

If it isn’t a pre-req and you have a legit explanation then I wouldn’t worry. You can verbally offer to get a letter from the professor explaining why they dropped you from the summer session if need be when you call usc about it.

I doubt they will care that much though.

Hey all,
I’m planning on applying to USC this coming Fall, so just wanted to say congrats to all those that got accepted!
One quick question though: Since most people don’t hear back until mid to late May, should I bother applying early anyway or does it matter?

@CrownoftheSea well the deadline for the application is around February, and admissions do not review according to who has submitted their application first, it is either completely random/somewhat according to a loose regional review. You can submit it the day before the deadline if you wish, but it’s just a matter of getting all your things together that may be a hassle if you wish to submit so late. If your application is done and you believe it’s the best to your ability, I see no reason for you to not submit your app in January or whenever. But just remember, they DO NOT review according to a first come first serve basis.

Also note, admissions do not review transfer applications until around mid-April, I do not know the reason for this, but this is what they’ve been doing for the last two years, and they generally start rushing and mass-reviewing applications in mid-late May so that is the reason why so many of us hear back so late. Good luck next year!

@CrownOftheSea - I’d say the sooner you can apply the better because doing transfer apps is time intensive and it isn’t a good idea to put them all off until the last minute. This is especially true if you are applying to more than a couple schools. Otherwise, it doesn’t really matter.

we have nothing on last years forum lol

I got into CLAS/Econ. But I dont think it said if they denied me from Marshall or not.
I just sent in spring grades like last week so I doubt they even looked at them. Im going in with my grades in my hand tomorrow morning and doing what is necessary to get into Marshall.

Ahh, well guess I should start early in the fall then, since I’m planning on applying to mass loads of schools.

Also, for schools that require a May 1 reply deadline, should I ask for a deferment or just go ahead and put a deposit down at my #1 school and then if USC admits me and I decide to attend, to just notify school #1 about my choice?

Okay so I know I got in a while ago but still haven’t received my package. Hopefully it gets here on Tuesday. I’ve already set up my USC email and checked my account and FA. I definitely know that I got accepted to Marshall because of that. However, I don’t know what my class standing is. I applied with 60+ credits but if they decide not to accept some, I could be a sophomore. It tells you in your package right? How am I supposed to fill out the housing application if I’m not sure? :/

Oh well, I’m happy now that I know it’s Marshall and not Econ (second choice) :). Guess I’ll just start looking at places off-campus.

BTW does anyone here know what the point of having a Cal Grant is if the school will just increase the university grant when you don’t have one and decrease it when you do? It seems kind of pointless.

@Crown - That is a problem most every transfer student has. You’ll have to put a deposit down at the top school you get into and then plan on essentially losing that deposit if USC or another reach school lets you in. I’m in a situation where my deposit deadline for my #2 school is in a couple weeks so because I got an SGR I hope USC will let me know soon.

grieverxiii, if you’re from a California college then you should receive an accurate class standing in your package, yes. For out of state students or students who recently finished a semester, it may take a few weeks to get a complete transfer credit report via OASIS/mail.

As for housing, your class status isn’t really relevant. You’re going to be housed as an upperclassmen no matter what. Anyway, if you’re asked on a housing application you should just estimate. It’s not life or death.

@Serapher

Yeah I’m coming from an out of state so I guess I won’t know for a while. Even longer if they don’t add your APs right away. The reason I’m concerned is because there’s a note on the housing application that says they can cancel it (which means you’d have to pay to start another one) if your class standing is incorrect.

I have been gone from here for so long!! But CONGRATS southOC! if anyone deseved getting in it was you!

grieverxiii, it took 2 weeks for me to receive my full transfer credit report as an out of state student. I wouldn’t wait that long for housing purposes, I’m sure they’ll understand if you just use your standing from your packet. Waiting is a bad idea with housing. You should definitely look into off-campus housing at this point, too. You could very well get university housing but it isn’t guaranteed.

My class end at 12 and my mailman usually come around 1, I will just sit outside and wait for it tmr :frowning:
since I know it will probably come tmr, I had a series of dreams yesterday, for a single night I dreamed about 3 times I got the acceptance and 2 times I got rejection LOL

Has anyone sent in their deposit before receiving their acceptance package? USC is my first choice and I haven’t received mine yet. I’m just wondering if I might do some harm if I submit my enrollment deposit before receiving my package.

Multiple people have. It can’t realistically do any harm but, at the same time, it doesn’t hurt to wait, either.

We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information,
so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified
of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.

i still have that status. will i get still get a package/sgr/letter tomorrow?

@dreamupsidedown:
Since there is not much answers to your question, I can help.

 • Has anyone in this thread successfully transferred into the School of Cinematic Arts or know of someone who did?

Yes, they are. If you go on page 641 on this forum is updates of people who have been accepted and/or rejected. You would notice that people would were rejected into SCA were accepted in their second major.

How competitive is transfer admission? Are there any statistics anywhere? I’ve heard that the average GPA is about 3.5 for the less competitive programs. That seems low compared to the regular average…

I am not sure about the statistics but someone on this thread had put a link of the freshmen that were expected. All i know is 36,000 applied and 2,600 got accepted in general.

Transfer admission is less competitive. But the thing is, USC is a competitive school in general. To understand an average, 3.5 is consider an average for freshmen, meaning if they want to get accepted but since USC is competitive, they would rather have the 4.0 kid. For transfer, the average is 3.0 but they would want the kid with a 3.5. So the better the grade, the better chance you are accepted.

What is the earliest you can transfer? Is there a minimum amount of credits you need other than the required courses? For example, do they require junior standing or something like UCLA?

You can transfer at anytime. So if you wanted to you can attend a CC, for an example and they would want you high school grades, college grades and compare how better you did in college.

Do AP scores count towards the required courses?

Yes as long as you pass to get credit. You stated about how many AP semester credits you have. you have 18 semester credits which is a full load semester.

Do you need letters of recommendation? I sent three when I applied for fall 2010 but I was rejected. Will they still be in my record or something?

For general admissions, no. For SCA, yes. I agree to get 3 other recommendations.

@NepalPride- It’s possible, there have always been example that people still on that status receive acceptance
