USC 2010 Transfer Thread

frantastic!, USC requests your financial information so they can determine your “need.” If you feel the information they have requested is too invasive, contact financial aid and tell them you longer wish to receive financial aid.

@TheGoldFinch Wow awesome that you got the Transfer Merit Scholarship, do you mind me asking how much you got for it and what your GPA/Credits are? Also did it show up in your financial aid package? I really would like to receive it as well! I have a 3.9 with 60 credits.

Does anyone know how your financial aid package is viewed? I am assuming it is on OASIS? I recently turned in an extra form they requested to determine my financial aid package, so I’d like to know when I might be notified, is it through e-mail or do we have to manually check on OASIS? Thanks in advance!

@ kulakai thanks for ur feedback

You’ve probably mentioned it already but did u get an sgr as well?

Have u turned in ur grades alreay?

Is anybody who is attending orientation bringing a guest?

@sbrry7 - Yes and yes, turned them and got the received spring grades status change on the 25th last month.

@dreamingusc both my parents want to come with me to orientation. sort of embarrassing, but it looks like there’s some stuff for parents so I guess it’s not that weird.

@stargurl93 nooooooooooooooooo you got rejected :frowning: you can be an honorary trojan if you would like though
I say apply again! There is no harm of doing so, and as I should know, there is always hope.
I will miss you :(

Also is anyone going to the USC Job Fair today? I am only going because apparently you get amazing benefits and them paying 6 units of your tuition (which is amazingggggg) plus real pay.

@ Kulakai-- Thank you! :D

@ lostmarch-- Thanks! I didn’t apply for financial aid; however I did check the financial aid awards section on usconnect just to see if it showed up there and it didn’t. And yes, my acceptance was dated 4/29 and my scholarship letter was dated 5/27. My guess is that they didn’t start the scholarship process until much later than the admissions process.

@ xdzzzrawr-- The scholarship covers one quarter’s worth of tuition (roughly $9250). It’s renewable each year provided I maintain a 3.0 gpa or higher. My stats are pretty much equal to yours. Also, I’m not sure what role the essays play in determining the scholarship, but my advisor (who used to work at the admission dept at Marshall) said it was top 1% she’s ever read and that it literally made her cry. I can’t help but think that it may have played a role for me.

@ dreamingUSC-- I am bringing my boyfriend. He’s interested in maybe transferring to USC in a couple years so it’d be a good learning experience for him. Plus, he’s my partner and I want to have him there with me, hahah.

xdzzrawr, you’ll be able to see your financial aid package through both USConnect and OASIS.

daisydaisy: Lol, it’s okay, it looks like my mom is coming with me. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one :)

how hard is it to get into USC with a 3.0 gpa

@dreamingUSC: I’ll be bringing a friend of mine. She is really curious and ecstatic about me getting in, and it’s a prospective school for her to transfer to.

@bak55221 - Most likely very difficult since the average gpa is around 3.5, even 3.8+ for some majors.

You’re going to have a lot of difficulty getting into any of USC’s schools with a 3.0, unless you’re transferring from an especially prestigious university and/or have a wealth of extracurriculars. I think from your post history that you just finished your freshman year. You need to really concentrate this upcoming year if you want to maximize your chance to attend a tier 1 university.

Rejected. But not surprised, I never had the desire to go to USC.
GPA: 3.72

I think I was rejected because I didn’t have enough credits. I think you need 64 and I only had 62.

@ erikmoonwalks-- You don’t need 64 to be accepted. That’s only to qualify for junior level standing.

I love how most instructors can never seem to meet their deadlines to turn in final grades. I also love how some, including department deans, have the amazing super power to disappear from the face of the earth after the semester has ended.

@Budlightyear - Ouch, how long until your grades will be posted for a final transcript to be ordered?

Kulakai - A couple of course grades have already been posted, but the majority, including the missing signatures, have not yet been posted. I can order transcripts now, but they won’t give them out/send them out until everyone’s grade point averages have been calculated. Having them posted now will be a huge favor as unofficials can be downloaded and brought to USC in lieu of the officials until those are available.

My biggest fear is that the longer I wait to send in my SGR, the slimmer my chances will be of a favorable decision. And since I dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.94 this semester, after a 27 unit semester with a B in math, my fear is ever increasing. I should have never taken that big of a load; I wanted to prove something to myself.
