USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@ Bud

Man don’t sweat it. You’ll be fine. One class isn’t going to be the end of you.

finally i got acted on but no mail…wth…can’t even log into backdoor either…

happydk, thanks for the support man. It’s just thinking back to the “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s”. you know? and the “what if’s”. I know what’s done is done, but it’s a prereq class to Marshall, that’s the scary part for me. I was more concerned with stupid courses that didn’t matter.

Budlight, don’t worry too much. I got a B in English and I was able to get in.

@budlightyear: yeah. that situation happen for me. but not only the professor waited until yesterday to post the grades but the online system is not updates to post my GPA.
my school has a slow system

@everyone including Jocelyn626 and Mr Popular:
For someone reason, i thought i was a shoe in for USC. I apply for the Theater program as a BA which is like getting into CLAS. I thought that there would not be much people for my major since it is the arts and the popular major is SCA.

So i was wondering if i should apply again? I wanted to apply for the Theater again but this time audition because i figure if they at least see my performance, the theater program can expected and there would be little struggle to admissions. I also wanted to apply for the film program as a film and video production. I know it is the most competitive out of all the majors at SCA.

now also i have a similar situation that kielyy had. so here are my options:
1.) continue at CC and i would finish my theater degree in the fall semester ( i need 3 classes) and take classes in the spring that would help my prerequisites like (i need sociology, anthropology and a diversity class) and also take film classes (intro to video and script to screen)

2.) go to Pace where i have gotten a scholarship ( i think they give one to everyone who transfers) and do the same as i would at the CC and transfer. the problem would be is i am consider undeclared and i would have to apply again as a Theater in the Fall 2011. i can’t apply for the spring.

3.) get a degree at Pace and tried for grad.

4.) go to Chapman (still waiting for their decision). I would be a English major and i could audition in the fall to declared as a Theater major for the spring. And then transfer.

5.) get a BA in Chapman and transfer to USC for the grad program.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

alamemom, I understand that to be an option. I was just wondering if it was normal for USC FA to ask for documents that go past Federal Tax Returns, CSS profile, non-filing statements, etc. I submitted all the necessary information back in March/April, and now they’ve inquired for more information…Here is an excerpt from my email (one of the many other things they asked for):

Home Value, Debt, Year Purchased and Purchase Price - Parents
Please have your parents answer the following questions in writing or by e-mail regarding their primary residence: 1) What is the current market value of their home? 2) What amount do they currently owe on the home? 3) In what year did they purchase the home? 4) What was the purchase price of the home? If your parent(s) have sold their residence, please submit a copy of the escrow closing statement showing the sales price and mortgage owed. Be sure to explain the use of any proceeds from the sale. Please include your name and USC ID on the document.

Is it normal for them to ask for this much information in such detail? “Be sure to explain the use of any proceeds from the sale” seems somewhat invasive…at least in my opinion.

I’d just feel a lot more comfortable knowing that someone else got this email also…

There’s nothing unusual about that. Many schools use your parents’ real estate investments as a consideration in determining financial aid. Normally they find the home value by other means as opposed to directly asking but the information itself is normal.

frantastic!, the CSS/Profile collects information about your home equity and USC generally considers about 5.6% of home equity to be available for college expenses (this applies to everyone whether the individual feels their home equity is available or not). They are probably asking for additional information because the value listed on the CSS/Profile doesn’t match what their home value estimate calculators come up with - and this can be higher or lower. They are double-checking your home’s value.

The question about what the proceeds are used for or will be used for is unfortunately because some people try to “game” the system by hiding home equity. One family member might “sell” the home to another for an artificially low price to make the home equity temporarily disappear.

So, because others try to game the system, the rest of us have to give all these details. Hopefully it will be worth it when you get your package!

Good luck!

alamemom, thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I suppose it makes more sense.

@lkonch - All nyu decisions were mailed out by last week at the latest. Call them up now to get your decision.

so if i received an SGR and my status is still at “we are unable to process…”, is it going to change to “we have acted upon your application” or stay the same? just wondering because i hope it changes to the “acted” status so i know when to be expecting it in the mail / i can try the backdoor method

@trojanhopeful1 - i received a SGR and i went from “we are unable to process” to “your application has been forwarded to the committee for review” after i emailed my counselor.

Sent in my transcript and it says they’ve received it but no status change. What do you guys think?

I’m away from home right now, but my mom just told me that I got the acceptance package from USC!! Originially I applied for Marshall w/ Pre-Professional Emphasis: Pre-Accounting.

However, I got in as an undecided major with pre-professional emphasis in pre-accounting as a Sophomore. My plans are to get into Leventhal, but I was just wondering if anyone knows how this path would work, now that I’m undeclared?

Congrats sky-raptor!! looks like we’re both leaving uc riverside now :D!

i think you are fine…i sent mine in May 17 and i didnt get that update until yesterday and that was after i emailed the counselor so i think she updated it. They have til mid-july so they probably have alot of applicants with SGR to review again

I was admitted as Math Major, my 2nd choice in my app. Is there any way to appeal for Marshall?

striker15-How long ago did you send it? I remember I sent mine in the first time on the 21st, a second time on the 25th and I didn’t get a notification email or a status change until the 27th. I would give it a little time since they’re prolly still busy.

But does anyone know a general time range of how long after receiving acceptance you should receive your financial aid letter?

sky-raptor, you have to get into Marshall to change your major to accounting. For information on transferring from within USC to Marshall, look here: http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprogram/admissions/admissions-internal-major-applicant.htm</a></p>

fengfeng, my understanding is that there is no appeal process for transfers.

USPlacer, my financial aid package was posted online 2 weeks after being acted on. I think the actual letter came the week after that.

mstransfer - thank you for the reassurance. i just need to find something fun to do rather than reworking the integration by parts problems that kicked my butt. haha.
