Lol I emailed my admission counselor a while back and no response yet. Hopefully someone realizes that they have the transcript they want and they move my application up.

tbibbs - you can always appeal your financial aid package and present any special circumstances. I am guessing the EFC you mention is your FAFSA EFC? Remember, USC only uses your FAFSA EFC to distribute FEDERAL financial aid such as Stafford loans (max $7,500 for Juniors) and work/study. They use the CSS/Profile to distribute USC grants which considers assets, such as home equity, the FAFSA does not.

In my experience, families with a FAFSA EFC over $40,000 often have significant home equity that adds to their expected contribution at USC. It is unfortunately likely your package will not include USC grants.

Again, you can appeal with special circumstances such as high medical bills not covered by insurance. Credit card or consumer debt will not be considered a special circumstance.

Hoping you get good news admissions and financial aid-wise!

Oh, I just double checked and noticed I actually sent my unofficial transcripts in on May 20th so it will be 2 weeks today that they received mine (with official getting to them in the mail June 2nd). If that 2 week turnaround holds true for Marshall sgr’s then hopefully I see a status change to forwarded today! /crossesfingers

status just changed from forwarded on 6/2 to acted on 6/4!!! so nervous! anybody have a general idea how long it takes for the backdoor method to work? is it good that they acted so fast, they were just waiting for my SGR? sorry to be semi-freaking out, but usc is my last hope to transfer out of my current school :(

@mttransfer - It could work instantly or it could take up to 7 days to work. I wouldn’t worry too much about it not working right away, just wait for the mail to know for sure.

Gateway includes full amenities for 899 a month. It’s a resort, honestly. I’m signing a lease right now, actually. Anyone wanna be roomates?? Haha I’m excited it’s really nice… And closer than troy east. I took a tour of the room I’d be living in, theroom is the size of my bathroom for 5 people.

@alamemom - thanks for the information. I check oasis and my financial aid package says I am expected to pay $46,504. when my FAFSA EFC was only like $12,000…so i am a little confused because i know usc takes into consideration home equity but i didnt think it was that much difference between USC and FAFSA EFC

Yes, but you’ll lose the application fee. If you’ve already paid your deposit on a contract you may not be able to cancel, "Once you have confirmed your contract and made the confirmation payment, you are responsible for the terms of the contract. If, after you have confirmed your contract, you decide to cancel your assignment, you may request to do so by submitting a completed cancellation request form. However, you may still submit a completed cancellation form.

* If your cancellation is granted by June 15, you will receive a full refund of the contract-confirmation payment.
If your cancellation is granted after June 15, you will not be eligible for a refund of any portion of the contract-confirmation payment, even if you decide to withdraw from the university.
If your cancellation request is not granted, your contract will be in force and you will be held to its provisions".

tbibs - Wow - that is a big difference. Does your family own a small business that did not have to be reported on the FAFSA? Home equity should not have added $30,000+. I suggest emailing USC to ask what added to your expected contribution - they are usually very willing to tell you. That way you can correct any errors.

*Are there Federal Stafford loans included in the package and did you receive an email saying your package was ready? Some freshman, transfer and returning students had USC scholarships post to their aid before the package was complete. In a complete package you should see, at minimum, Federal subsidized Stafford of $5,500 and unsubs of $2,000 with your FAFSA EFC. (Junior transfer) If those are not there, wait a bit longer for your package to be completed.

@politricks - It should change to a “We have received your spring grades…” status however the change it not automatic, an admissions person has to see the grades are received and change it themselves so as long as you know they received the final transcript ok, then no need to worry.

That’s the problem. My CC confirmed that they were sent, but I don’t have any confirmation from USC. Should I call the office, or wait a few more days? I ordered them on Friday, but I don’t believe they were sent until Tuesday.
