I really want to go to USC but they’re not giving much aid at all I don’t want to make any private loans as much as possible and that’s the only thing that they left me with. Oh life. It looks like I’m going to UCSD instead…

@hellostranger57 - Do you feel that you should have gotten more aid? You can try appealing maybe.

@ anyone who knows how to evaluate transcripts/total credits, or have received their transfer credit evaluation already…

I have a total of 63 transferrable units at the moment; there is a summer course offered for 3 units and I know that by taking this course, it will put me above the cap of 64. Will they grant me 64 if i take this course? or will they just not transfer in that class and leave me at 63 because it puts me over with 66 units?

One more thing, of all the transferable courses, do they pick and choose what courses to transfer over? depending on what is best for your major? For example: if a person has 64 transferable units, but x amount of classes are pretty much irrelevant, would they opt not to transfer in those courses?

Just curious.

@BudlightYear - From looking at the two transfer analysis sheets I’ve gotten for two schools I got into, if you were at 61 credits and were taking a 4 credit course, they would transfer it over as a 3 credit but if that course was say 1-2 credits, they would not transfer it over as a 3 credit course. Does that make sense?

In your case they’d have to squish it down into 1 credit however I’m not sure they’d allow that and I think you’ll have a hard time finding an answer without calling them.

To answer your second question, I have found schools are pretty flexible on what will transfer over. Say in my case of having 100 credits, they just transferred over what they thought might be best but when I asked if I could drop some and transfer others over instead, they said it would not be a problem as long as there was something similar it could transfer over to at their school.

@ Kula - Thanks for the break down man. It makes perfect sense. I’ll give them a call after I hear of an offer for admission. The reason for me asking was a trend that I’ve noticed here on CC of junior applicants with 64+ units being admitted as sophomores. I guess we won’t know until a formal transfer analysis and possibly a one-on-one with a counselor. Thanks again.

I really have no idea why I was denied…

4.0/52 units
Decent essay
Excessive Extracurriculars: Including currently an intern for Assemblyman Jeffries and being Chairman of Student Media Board
Great Recommendations.

Is there any way of appealing?

@budlightyear - Yeah I haven’t given much thought to that. As long as all of our stuff transfers over to cover the pre-reqs and GE cats then it doesn’t matter to me cause it’ll still only take 2 years then to complete the degree.

Some schools require you to complete certain classes before you can be considered a junior and USC is not one of them from what I’ve seen of the business major at least.

@deborahmei - I only know of the freshman admissions appeal process. I haven’t read anything regarding transfer decision appeals but I wouldn’t give up without looking first.

hellostranger: if you dont mind me asking you how much did they give you (grants, loans, work study, etc)? and what was your efc?

@Kula I havent actually gotten my FA package yet. I just know for the fact that I will get little to none at all. I believe my immigration status won’t allow me to have FA as well so most probably my dad will have to pay for everything for whichever school I decide to go to $50k plus a year is just too much to ask from him so…yeah might be picking the cheaper option.

@deborahmei I’m sorry you got rejected Did you apply for a 2nd choice major? I was actually rejected from Communications too but I called them and they just asked me to email them about wanting to switch majors. I got accepted to my 2nd choice major. So right now, I believe they are in the process of reviewing me again for comm and the person I spoke with said that my chances of getting in to comm is good.

@hellostranger I just sent my councilor an email to ask if there’s a way of appealing. I just don’t understand how I got rejected…I did have a second major but idk. My head is kind of reeling. PM me and tell me what you’re doing because I’m kind of confused? Haha.

@deborahmei I got my acceptance package last saturday. I wasnt admitted to my first choice major which is Communications. I was admitted to Sociology, my 2nd choice major. It says on my packet that if I want to transfer to Annenberg (Communications), I should call the Annenberg Admissions office. So I did, and I just basically told them I wanted to switch to Comm. A couple of hours later, a lady called me and told me to email them first about wanting to switch to Annenberg. She double checked my application and said that everything looks good given the fact that I finished all requirements. Right now, they are reviewing my app again for Communications and they said they will get back at me within a week or 2 the latest.

What was your 2nd choice major that you listed on your app?

@Politricks - I got a SGR, sent in my grades, and like 4 or 5 days ago my status switched from “We are unable to review…” to “We have received the spring grades requested by the committee. We will be forwarding your file for further review very soon. For students submitting spring grades, we typically mail final decisions by mid-July.” What’s yours saying?

Quick question for those who already sent in the $300 deposit.

How long did it take before the Enrollment Box showed up on the Admission tab after you received the admission letter? The letter said to wait a week, mines was date 5/29, so I technically have till tomorrow.

I can log in perfectly fine through this link:

https://camel2.usc.edu/AdmCertification/Default.aspx

Should I just go ahead and pay through that link now, or I guess I can wait and call on Monday to see whats up with my enrollment box.

when your status says " forwarded for committe review" can you use backdoor method?

Hey guys,
I’m currently taking a class over the summer that will finish on July 9. Without a doubt I should have my grade for the course by the time the second transfer orientation comes around. Do you guys think I will be able to take an unofficial transcript to the orientation and be able to receive credit for it? Because the only reason why I took the course was in order to be able to take the second part of the class at SC.

@whipser - Theoretically it only might work after it says the committee has acted upon your application.

@whisper: you would have to wait until your applications is acted on by the committee.

@striker15: i would just take in an unofficial transcript because either if you are waiting for a transfer evaluation or you are getting one at orientation, schools usually ask for an unofficial because it is easier at this point. I remember when i had to transfer from a four year to a two year and even though they had my transcripts in the system, they couldn’t find it so they had to use the unofficial.

striker15, you might want to get pre-approval since you’re now a USC student. [USC ARR : Transferring Coursework](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/transferringcoursework/)
I’m not sure if the general regulations apply to new students, you should probably email USC. It’d suck to take a course and then have them not accept it.

If I never filled out a CSS profile do you think it’s too late? I also submitted my FAFSA pretty late and have yet to see my financial aid rewards. However I turned it in late and received my aid package at NYU already so maybe USC hasn’t processed it yet.

I really have no idea, maybe someone else knows. I would say go ahead and do it. You only lose some time by filling it out. Maybe call them and ask?
