USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@samuelkim1990 I am fairly sure it is possible to deposit for both as a deposit implies that you’re putting down an amount to commit and you will simply lose that deposit if you decide to go to one or another, however, I remember you receiving your decision atleast a month ago and the deadline to commit for USC was June 1st or 2 weeks after you receive your acceptance letter or if you receive after May 19th-ish you have 2 weeks to commit, so you might be in a bit of a predicament. They do however explain that if you have pass the June 1st deadline hey can reconsider to allow you to commit, but you need to have an extenuating circumstance in order for them to reconsider you to commit, which I wouldn’t consider your late indecision to commit to USC that extenuating.

@xdzzzrawr
yeah i got it long time ago
but thought id have a shape of where i am going definitely
but coming to the end i realize that I am NOT still sure where to go (either cal or usc)
and i have the CoA on cal end too…
godd i wished the semester was over before 6/1 but this really sucks
i think i will just try to deposit and see what happens

@samuelkim1990 yea I would really try to atleast see if you can even have access to the deposit enrollment page and see if it’ll even let you deposit, if not, you may either want to see what you need to do to appeal for a reconsideration to commit, or you’re going to have to stick with Berkley which is obviously still a really really good school.

@xdzzzrawr
it let me go through the deposit, i have talked to the counselor before and i think it wanst a solid dead line

plus hmm yeah cal is a great school but I really wanted to reconsider with enough time… (usc FA was much better than cal… and other stuffs too)

and last one if i finalize my decision ( i asked cal… they told me to call and withdraw) do you know the procedure for usc? on how to withdraw the application? should i just call them?

@samuelkim1990 I personally don’t know alot about the details for withdrawal procedures and I would either try and look it up on USC’s website or simply call the office of admissions for the best and most direct answers. I highly recommend talking to an admission rep in order to get the exact correct info, as they are human beings and can relate to your situation and tell you what exactly you need to do as opposed to us giving you facts or you reading of what you need to do on USC’s website.

But yea, you should REALLY consider every little factor that is making you ambivalent between UCB and USC because choosing one or another will yield very very veryyyyy different environments both academically and socially. I do not know how crazy Berkley’s engineering is (as I recall you being an engineering major) compared to USC’s. To my knowledge atleast for Berkley for its business program that it’s quite ridiculous and crazy competitive and people often have to settle for other majors because the criteria and test to actually get into the business program is so challenging and selective. I personally would choose USC over UCB because I wouldn’t want to be in that sort of learning environment of constantly being pressured, even if UCB’s business is more prestigious than USC’s, and also the fact that UCB is up north and my home is 30 mins away from LA.

But with that aside, don’t let my opinions on UCB influence you, all I’m saying is just be really careful about where you plan your future and what do you think is best for your educational and future career. Good luck!

theres a withdrawal card in your acceptance package. as well as one online :)

hmm i see that there is a card in my package
but would you be able to tell me where online withdrawl card is at?
thanks!

@ kulakai - As for my career goals, I want to be in some part of finance or wealth/portfolio management or commercial real estate finance. The money thing is a pretty big factor, but I can afford it, as long as I only have to go two years. Help! haha thanks

@lafazman - Well, I don’t know a lot about the biz econ program at UCSB but I assume it is similar to biz econ at UCLA which is the program UCLA students do if they are interested in business. USC Marshall has concentrations in finance and real estate as part of their business admin major as well which would be more specialized but I imagine usc is way more expensive. Did you tour both schools to get a feel for them?

lafazman - Just FYI, beginning this fall, biz econ at UCSB is no longer being offered as it is being replaced with a similar major, which they call “Economics and Accounting”.

from my understanding of the difference between regular econ and biz econ, biz econ has more accounting courses whereas regular econ has more math courses.

Is USC worth going to for a Psychology degree? I am thinking no. I plan on going to graduate school at USC though, and was wondering if I will have a better chance of being accepted if I attend for my undergraduate degree also.

I have heard that they like diversity, but lets be realistic. Wouldn’t they give priority to those that have already attended their university?

USC is worth going to for any degree unless you have the option for an equal/higher prestige school that you feel fits you better. You have an improved chance of being accepted at any graduate school when you’re coming from a renowned university.

Just finished the CSS profile. Hope I get some aid because that was a pain in the ass…

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from USC about housing??? Also whats the chances of getting Troy hall, troy east, or cardinal gardens??? Thank you!

Hey guys! So i got an email from Annenberg and they accepted me to switch Communications which is originally my 1st choice. Yay finally! :slight_smile: USC is so much more appealing to me now! Grrr decisions decisions!

congrats :)

Congratulations!!

@tbibbs i believe someone said something about them assigning housing every 1.5 weeks! I think this is true because they reassigned me to a different place around then. I think you have a good chance of getting into Troy East and Cardinal Gardens, but you’ll probably get a triple. That’s what I got for Troy East.

@hellostranger Yay!! Congrats! :)

Cardinal Gardens and Troy Hall are probably done.

I put down 2 CAR and 2 TRH options before putting TRE as the 5th for housing.
I ended up getting a Triple for TRE , when I asked for a double.

Hoping I can get reassigned into a double at another apartment with parking lot.
But at least TRE is close to campus and has a decent parking lot.
