USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I got assigned to Annenberg, which I’m not too thrilled about. Would you guys recommend waiting for the confirmation deadline to pass and resubmitting the housing application? What’s the risk of not getting housing at all because I’ll be submitting it so late?

Cardinal Gardens would be pretty sweet. Parkside would be my first choice though. I heard it has good food. hehe

Does anyone know abt the Regal Trojan apartment?

@ Kulakai and budlightyear - I have gone to check out both schools and while I have gotten a small feel for them it doesnt at all tell me about the feel of the academics. And also, I meant to say I got into the Economics and Accounting at UCSB and Marshall at USC and with all the pros and cons im so torn between the two. I just have heard that the business program at UCs isnt as “real world” as Marshall. I don’t know what to do!

@lafazman - USC and UCSB are my top two choices also, even down to the choice of majors. The bottom line is (for me), coming out of USC Marshall/Leventhal, I will never go through the stresses of unemployment again -I’ve been there and I would not wish that on anyone. You get what you pay for. I’ve done a lot of stupid things with my finances in the past, which I regret to this day, USC won’t be one of them.

Speaking of “real world” application; I’m looking forward to being part of International Case Competition with team Marshall. [USC Marshall International Case Competition](http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprogram/international/case/international-case-competition.htm) looks like a lot of fun!

I have to say that UCSB’s national prestige doesn’t look like it even approaches USC’s, for business, especially.

For anyone not seeing the Deposit Box under the admission tab after 7 days, call the USC Admission office and they’ll add it for you.

Just submitted my deposit this morning; hope to see you guys at orientation!

Of course, if USC ins’t for you as an undergrad, you can always opt to join the Trojan Family as a graduate student; I’m not too familiar with the admission stats regarding graduate programs at USC, but I hear its pretty competitive as well. A close friend of mine did just that, from UCSB undergrad to USC MBA. Another close friend is doing extremely well for himself just as a UCSB undergrad, while others, not so well from the same school.

With respect to prestige, I think that USC will offer you more opportunities to relocate as they are more recognized around the world, whereas, UCSB will limit those opportunities. This is just my opinion of course, but even if UCSB has one of the most phenomenal academic program for Econ and Acct; no one will know that unless they know UCSB. USC’s name sells itself on a resume.

@Budlightyear: Ditto on the Marshall case competition. That, and the Trojan Consulting Group (TCG) are what I’m looking forward to. Have you considered a business fraternity?

Does anyone know the likelihood of my semester of admission being bumped up from Spring 2011 to Fall 2010?

You could try calling, it can’t hurt. They definitely won’t just do it on their own, though.

@Skyline - I’ve thought about fraternities and such because I know they can only help enhance the networking opportunities. I’ve been stuck with a decision to rush or not rush due to my age and life experiences; experiences which one can only learn by making the mistakes (i.e. drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, financial irresponsibilities etc…), all of which has helped me do a complete 180 on who I am. I’m feeling as though I will not “fit in” well with the 18-22 year old greek system; however, I’ll admit that I do look the part.

I completely agree, and am having the same doubts myself. Being an older student brings a different mindset to the student body. It’s also why I’m looking for something a bit further from campus rather than right across the street. Dorm living is just way too invasive. Have you been looking for places to move?

@budlightyear/skyline - I talked to a few people and decided against the greek idea but you can achieve a ton of networking by joining clubs/organizations dedicated to your interests as well if you’d like. There are a number of service and professional oriented fraternities as well that don’t focus so much on the brotherhood/partying.

Skyline - Yes I have. It’s such a pain right now because I’m still deciding on whether I should go alone or with a room mate; room mates are such a gamble. Have you? And yes, I agree, I don’t mind some commuting.

Kula - Thanks for that little bit of info, buddy! I never really considered those. We’ll have to check them out!

Of course, I’m still in SGR status so…

Roommates are dicey, but I usually know how to pick. I sub-lease to two female roommates and they are awesome, but I can’t take them with me haha. I’ve been looking everywhere from Alhambra to South Pasadena. There are some nice homes with rooms for rent around there – fairly cheap too. If push comes to shove, then I’ll be looking for a roommate to find an apartment with. Padmapper has been an endless research tool, but it can only do so much.

@Kulakai: Big thanks!

@Budlightyear - It’ll take you over an hour to read through the description of every student organization since there are so many. I’ve done an amazing amount of networking while at my current comm. college and it all started with one club I joined.

I completed all the questions in my housing application but I still get a status of “Not Complete” although I payed the fee in March. The only sections of the application menu that I am able to access are “3. Profile Questions, 5. Housing Preferences, 8. Roommate Selection, and 9. Rooms.”

Does anyone else have this status? I’m wondering if it has anything to do with paying the $300 deposit…

You have to be accepted before they can assign you housing…
By applying in March, your application kinda got pushed wayyy back since you werent accepted during that time, give them a call.

I was looking around on myUSC and saw that I needed advisement in order to select classes/courses.

I was accepted as undeclared to CLAS and was wondering if anybody know how I should go about this? I saw that there is an “advisement” tab in the upper left hand corner on the myUSC homepage.

I also came across a link that took me to a calendar where I could signup for advisement by an appointment basis. What’s the difference between the “advisement” tab and the advisement by appointment?

I’m getting that the idea that one is over the internet whereas the other I have to physically go to USC. What I’m trying to say is can the “advisement” over the internet accomplish the same thing as the one via appointment?

Sigh… just a couple weeks ago this forum was so lively, now it’s so barren, where did you all go?!
