USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Don’t you think it might be too late though since they sent out all of the admission decisions on the 1st of June? I guess all I can do is wait and call them tomorrow… wish me luck! I really think I blew it. Just my luck too! I didn’t understand how to log into their system until tonight so I had no idea… gahhh!!

They’re still handling spring grade request students. There’s a reasonable possibility that they’d be willing to consider you, too.
Good luck

So I filled out the USC housing application today, does that mean I will find out in 10 days from now? or can I hear at any time? I feel like I wont get housing or good roommates or something bad.

I just went to the transcript office at my JC to ask when my spring grades will be available; the semester ends on Friday. They said, “Oh, I don’t know, maybe a couple weeks after the semester ends, maybe more.” So now I have to run around and get unofficial grade reports from all my teachers, just in case my transcript isn’t ready by June 30. I guess I’ll send the unofficial grades to SC on Friday and then as soon as my transcript is ready, I’ll hand carry it to SC. It’s just so frustrating how unwilling to be helpful the admissions and records office here is. :[

You need to email your USC admissions counselor and explain the issue with your transcripts. Ask him or her what they prefer you do. Perhaps they will wait for the transcripts or ask you to do something else. This has probably happened before and they will know what to do.

Agree with bbgg.

@bbgg&spiderman2010: Just sent her an email. I’m pretty sure I’m following correct procedure, because my SGR letter says that unofficial grade reports are acceptable, but you’re right; better safe than sorry.

I had the same heart stopping moment last week. I had turned everything in and was told I was all squared away, but they had a problem with my lack of a HS graduation date and couldn’t find the explanation, so they held my app until last week. I straightened it out, they found the info & have been forwarded for review. The woman at admissions just had me send an email explaining that I dropped out of school when I was 14 and therefore did not have a graduation date on my HS transcript. They were all very sweet and relaxed about it, which made me feel better, but now I think that it’s lowered my chances of admission. I have a pretty intense hard-knock story so that might work in my favor, as well as nearly perfect grades and ECs, so we shall see…I hear the mailman…I’m afraid to go look.

My status changed to acted on…I’m going to check the mail.

Rejected…

my status says acted on and i did backdoor and i got this pre-filled form that says I must commit by 6/1/2010 or when i get my packet, does that mean im in for fall?

Have any of the other sgr applicants seen their status go to forwarded yet? In particular, for Marshall…

@whipser - Means you are most likely admitted, congrats! I’d wait for the packet before submitting the deposit though.

Hey guys, I’m back with another question. So according to the transfer planning worksheet, “Transfer students generally complete two English composition courses before transferring.” I looked through my CC’s course catalog and they offer English Composition 101 and 102. However, my AP English Lang score got me out of English Composition 101 and English Composition 102 specifically. But per USC’s AP credit policy, my score would only give me 4 semester units. Am I going to have to take 101 and 102 anyway to satisfy the requirement? :/

dreamupsided0wn, wghiller contacted USC about unit nonequivalence since his college operates on a three unit system. This kind of relates to your scenario since apparently he was told that transfer guidelines relate to content, not unit counts. I would probably just call USC for something really technical like this but I’m going to guess, just based on personal assumption, that USC would take the AP credit.

nothing Here yet (marshall)
I sent in grade reports just about 4 weeks ago btw. In fact it still says my transcripts missing

@jocalo

Thank you! Yes, I called this morning and they were very nice and helpful! It was confirmed that my high school transcript WAS sent but for whatever reason it was lost and did not get to USC. I faxed them another today and mailing out another official one tomorrow. They also received my junior college already… and I’m sending them another one with this past semester grades…

So I guess it is “still being reviewed” and it has not had an impact on whether or not I will get in… but I’m really confused because I thought ALL the decisions were already made by June 1st… I guess mine wasn’t since they didn’t have my high school transcripts?? It’s just postponed? Has anyone else had this issue?

The general decisions were made around June 1 but you were an unusual situation. Like I said last night, they’re also still dealing with students who got spring grade requests so it’s not like they finished and have to reopen shop for your app. No one else on the thread that I’ve seen has had the issue this late in the process.

@Serapher, thank you! You are right. I called them AGAIN and finally talked to someone who assured me that since they had missing information (my high school transcript that was lost), they postpone the decision. I will find out anytime between now and Mid-July. SIGH. I wish I had figured all of this out before last night… I just so anxious to hear if I’m in or not.

I was reading quite a few pages back about some guy who said he just fooled around on his USC application and put “idk” on every answer and apparently he got in… Do you think that’s true? That makes me feel like I really have a shot… (3.3 gpa, volunteer work, and extra extracurriculars, honest and thorough responses to all questions on application.)

That was Andrizzle (did a quick search to figure it out). I do find that kind of odd but then again we have no idea what his extracurriculars or high school record is like. Plus, he may have reused an essay that he put a lot of work into or he may be an exceptional writer. I really can’t properly estimate your chances, sorry.

I thought that other person said they didn’t do any of the essay/answer part. If that person really got in on that I have hope. I know that my gpa is not as high as as the average gpa of most people who attend the school but I’m hoping my essays and answers help them decide for the better.
