USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Well, they said they blew off the personal questions. I’m guessing they still did the primary essay. Still, for anyone, a good essay can turn an application around and a bad one can run it into the ground.

I haven’t checked the forums in over a month, has anyone who received an SGR been accepted? I haven’t sent my spring grades in yet seeing as they aren’t available yet, and was just curious.

USPlacer got into CLAS.

There may be more

for those that sent there transcripts for sgr, did u add like a note with your usc id#, etc. or did u just send it as is?

@Ashtene - I mailed my official transcript(which was in its own sealed envelope) within a manilla envelope with a printed letter included saying “Here is my usc id# and official transcript, thanks” etc.

Bah, anyone want to tell me my chances?

I’m on a SGR, I started with a 4.0 in 18 units, I took 18 units during the spring and got 2 B’s, 1 of the B’s however is Intermediate Algebra (5 units) which doesn’t transfer, I’m scared however that I’m showing a huge decline in grades or whatever. I’m trying to talk to my teachers to see if they’ll change my grades lol.

I’m applying to CLAS Bio, and I was one of the first people to get a SGR (someone mentioned that people who got a SGR earlier were more likely to be accepted based off last years forums).

Thanks

I don’t see that as being a big detriment. Your cumulative GPA will still be competitive and math isn’t particularly important for a Bio. major. I got in as a Biology major with 31 units and a 3.7.

hiiiiiiii friends :)

I’m Nikki, this is my first time posting on this site (many apologies if this is the weirdest place to post this) although I have been actively reading it for months now. I’m a transfer student deciding between UCSD in fall or USC in spring. I was just rejected from my first choice, NYU, so now I’m trying to decide what to do. does anyone else feel less special that they got into USC for spring? I mean, I’m happy to have been accepted but for spring just feels like they felt bad and didn’t want to reject me. maybe this is the bitterness of rejection talking now.

anyways, any advice on which route I should take? I’m hoping to be bumped to fall for USC but I can’t see that happening.

Don’t feel bad. The majority aren’t fortunate enough to get an acceptance of any kind. I would go with USC for the prestige but you’re going to have to compare the financial packages. Plus, you have to decide which environment you’d prefer.

Hey guys, my status still says it’s reviewing and all decision will be made June 1st.

I havent got a SGR yet, but my school also is done yet (this week is finals week) is this the cause of me not hearing ANYTHING from USC? Are they waiting for me to finish school and then ask for Spring grades??

Or is it just that they forgot about me and left me being anxious just for the kicks? =D

Hey @titan, call them. I did, and now my status has switched to forwarded for committee review. I’m hoping to ring up this friday and find out what the deal is.

Fingers crossed

Hey guys,
I’m trying to apply for reassignment for housing, but all it says on the website is to submit a form. Does anyone know if I’m supposed to mail it in or how do I submit it?

@playthemdrums what did they tell you over the phone? did they just change your status instantly?

ilovemtsac,

“What if I want to change my housing assignment?
You can request to reassign. Print out and complete a reassignment request form (available [Services & Information - Housing Info/Forms](http://housing.usc.edu/Services/HousingForms.aspx)). Please use the form for “new students” and be sure to sign your request (unsigned requests cannot be processed) before mailing or faxing it to us.”

@titan I rang and they said “We still have you down as no decision” they put me through to my counselor and i left an answer message. Rang back the next day, still no decision, then i rang back yesterday and they told me it was forwarded shortly before i called. My status changed today.

I’m applying to Thornton, and i’m an international student who already has a bachelors. I was also told that admissions involving talent can take longer…

@Serapher
Thanks! You are always sooo helpful

I’m sure these have already been asked, but there are loads of pages to go through here and I thought it might be easier to just ask again.
I sent in my last forms on Friday (well, hopefully last) and am wondering how long it might take to financial aid stuff out to me. Should I call or am I being overly anxious? :stuck_out_tongue:
Also, I am hoping for the transfer merit scholarship, and, if I get it, would they have told me about it already even though they were still waiting on forms from me? Or will it just be sent out with my financial aid package? Also, how much does the average person get from the transfer merit scholarship? Are there any good guesstimates?
Thank you so much for your help, I will be so appreciative of any information I can get!!

@ Kulakai - My application hasn’t been forwarded yet, it still says “we are unable to process”, and I don’t think it will change until I turn in official transcripts. I’ve only turned in an unofficial transcript and 2 grade reports for Marshall this past Thursday. Official transcripts from both of my schools aren’t even available yet; so if it makes you feel any better, you’re in a better place than I am right now. haha.

QuadLover1002, it took me two weeks to get my financial aid status from being acted on. I wouldn’t call just yet, it takes time to update document statuses on USConnect and way more time to actually get your financial aid sorted out. If you’re really worried about it, though, go for it. It’s not like they’re going to start yelling at you and reduce your aid or something.

On the transfer merit scholarship, TheGoldFinch got one for “one quarter’s worth of tuition (roughly $9250). It’s renewable each year provided I maintain a 3.0 gpa or higher”. Her stats are here, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/904974-usc-transfer-decisions-2010-official-thread-2.html#post1064788665</a>. She said that it didn’t show up under financial aid awards but she also didn’t apply for financial aid. She was notified by a letter in the mail. Her application was acted on 5/02/10 and she got the letter 6/02/10 so you may or may not have already heard of it if you got it. I’d guess you would have, they were probably sent out in a batch.

Marshall SGR applicant
