Backdoor only works when its forwarded… mine is still stuck in review and it has been since Mid-May…

@KDW - how long did it take for your status to get changed from “unable” to “forwarded”? Mines still “unable”, but i just sent mine in yesterday

@Xu - congrats! marshall took a long time to process huh?

titan55, just call them or email your admissions counselor.

I’ve been a longtime lurker on here and finally decided to post! I was accepted for fall, and JUST filled my CSS profile out and sent my W2’s/tax returns in. My family’s annual income is less than 35,000, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to afford it and that I’ve missed all the scholarship deadlines :/

The scholarships are definitely helpful but not at all necessary. USC has the potential to be really generous depending on your family’s assets.

@JAFG89 Not to sound as if I’m looking down on you or anything, but are you sure your family’s TOTAL annual income is less than $35,000? I imagine that to be so little that you won’t be able to really afford any university without a complete full ride + grants for your outside expenses. You have to also consider your family’s payments along with the cost of living/supplies and just everything adding up together for college expenses, there is almost no way you can even attend college if your family really makes so little. My family does not make much either ($63,000), but even at my current public university, I am receiving so many university/government/state grants that covers my tuition and I also still have to pay around $7,500-$8,000 a year for all the costs of living and everything combined. If you wanted to attend USC which is more than double a public university, you would need a full ride (of nearly $48,000 and also have atleast $8,000 for the cost of living, which would constitute of nearly 1/4th of you family’s entire income, which I would imagine would be far too much of a burden that your family won’t be able to make their payments.

I am not discouraging or anything, as USC’s financial aid grants quite a bit of students in need, which in your case may be up to $35,000, however, you still have $13,000 for tuition that will need to be paid + outside expenses, so are you sure your family makes only $35,000?

There’s no way to say with absolute certainty whether their family will be able to make it or not until they get their financial aid report. Additional loans are always an option, for example the Parent PLUS Loan or third party companies. Get your degree from a prestigious school, find a job and pay the loans back over back.

I totally agree with Serapher!

Budlightyear, I should probably say that if you get rejected I’m going to have a serious face palm moment. You handled a ridiculous load and still have a really, really strong GPA.

On the iPhone, the only real problem that I see is the lack of Adobe Flash. That’s partially fixed by having a YouTube app but it still kind of annoys me. It also bothers me a bit that ATT just changed their data plan to a 2 GB cap but I probably wouldn’t use that much anyway. Plus, that’s technically the service provider and not the phone. I’m picking up an HTC Evo today, I’ll see what I think and then decide whether I want to go iPhone 4 or not.

@Serapher - I’m holding off on the evo until I see more reviews of how the 4g data reliability is. I hear it isn’t so hot down in LA? Also, you’ll want to tweak the evo a bunch to conserve battery life as there are a few apps, including flickr, that seem to try to update constantly which prevents the phone from idling which of course drains the battery quickly. Otherwise I hear the phone is amazing.

@Budlightyear - Your app still not forwarded? I’m starting to seriously second-guess myself getting in this late in the process if my app still hasn’t been final reviewed while everyone else seems to be getting decisions now :/

Is there any deadline to turn in our final transcripts and do we turn it into the normal admissions office?

Status just changed to acted on

Acted yesterday, package sitting in the mail today.
Acceptance letter dated June 5th.
USC HERE I COME :D

Marshall SGR applicant.

Congrats, happydk!

Yay for happydk!

Quentin13, “You must also request that a final official transcript be sent from your school directly to USC upon graduation or completion of the current semester.
Have all transcripts sent to:
University of Southern California
Office of Admission
UNDERGRADUATE
Los Angeles, CA 90089-0911”
It’s from the orientation homework. They don’t give a date.

Kulakai, yeah, the battery life is one of my potential turn offs. I’ll have to see how it goes. 4G isn’t officially up yet in LA although they’ve recently started running tests so apparently you can get a signal in some areas. Should be fully up by the end of this year, at the latest. From what I’ve heard, 4G is pretty bad at penetrating buildings so I’m not really putting a lot of emphasis on it. A big hidden Evo benefit is that, because of the 10.00 a month extra surcharge, you end up getting not only 4g access but true unlimited data, according to Wired. When a wireless carrier offers unlimited data, if you check the fine print, there’s usually a cap at 5 gb.

@Quentin13 - Deadline for an SGR transcript is June 30. But if you’re already admitted, I don’t know; my guess is ASAP.

@Serapher - Thank you for the compliment! Let me know how the EVO works out for you? I may have to check it out myself. Technology aside, the only thing I dislike about the EVO, really, is the size. I mean, it takes up half of my face. If anything, I’ll just reactivate my RAZR. Ha.

@Kula - Not yet, buddy. I still have to turn in official transcripts, which aren’t available yet…still. My USC counselor said “we’ll wait for them”. I’ve already given them an unofficial transcript and two grade reports as I’m under the impression that those were acceptable in lieu of the officials. But I’m hanging in there with you man!! Have you had any contact with them lately?

@happydk - Congratulations!!! Must be a phenomenal feeling; I’m excited for you!!!

congrats happydk, welcome to the trojan family !

@budlightyear - They have had both my unofficial and official for a while now. It’s been 3 weeks since they got my unofficial actually. I tried calling Marshall admissions to try and confirm they received everything and to explain I got a $800 nonrefundable deposit deadline at my safety school next week but they were not able to provide me any information and told me to call regular admissions.

thanks. Now if only I could sign up for orientation. I paid using the backdoor method the day I got my letter and also signed up for a myUSC account without being prompted by an email. I’m breaking all the rules heh.

Quentin13, rebel WITH a cause, haha. If you call, they might be able to speed it up. It’ll probably annoy them a little since they’re still busy with SGRs but if it’s stressing you out…

Budlightyear, definitely. I’ve never really owned a smart phone, though, so my impressions won’t be awesome when it comes to comparisons beyond the technology.
