USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Thanks Kulakai! UCSD is lagging it. I just called them and asked them if I’m eligible for any aid (based on my immigration status) and they just coulnd’t find the paperwork I gave them IN PERSON about a 3-4 weeks ago! If I go to USC, it will only cost me about $8000 more than UCSD. That’s not a lot if you compare the Communications program of USC and UCSD.

Zpaintballer: So you think that if I wait a couple of more days, I could still commit to USC and it wouldn’t be too late for me?

Did you call your actual counselor, or just the main UG admissions office?

@hellostranger57: Call USC admissions right now to clarify the date you have to submit your deposit by. It should have stated the date in your admissions packet somewhere. This is not a situation where you want to assume that a few extra days won’t be a big deal, make sure you get an answer on it directly from admissions.

@politricks. if you are refering to what i said, I called Main UG admission office.

the main admissions office. where can i find the actual counselor’s number?

@thehellostranger57 - [USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/)

Click on “Contact us”, then on find your admissions counselor.

Or you can just call the main admissions line and ask them because anyone in admissions should be able to help you with that.

@ hello
Here. https://camel2.usc.edu/admceebsearch/ugappfindcounselor.aspx</a>
p.s. I think you should go to UCSD with me!

@RAMP

blehhhh i called and it still hasn’t been processed. When i asked if today was the absolute last day to get them in he said “not really” So… maybe there is still hope, who knows. I probably won’t attend USC at this point since housing and classes would be a mess, but it’d be nice to know whether i got in or not.

@Kulakai I just spoke with them a couple of minutes ago. They told me that there is no specific deadline but it would be best and a lot of safer to do it within the week after i have received my official award letter. They also do case-by-case basis on late enrollment . I only received my award letter and found out that I am even eligible for aid yesterday (when I received their letter) so I’m pretty sure they can take that in to consideration.

@Politricks USC gave me aid while UCSD isn’t. It would be realistic for me to just go to USC because it would be cheaper over there. If i still decide to go to UCSD, I would have to pay the full price out of pocket :frowning:

Decisions, decisions…

PS. @Politricks have you gotten more aid from USC or UCSD? I think it would be easier to get in classes at USC because public schools are cutting down a lot of classes. Especially for liberal arts. Science related classes should be ok since they have the most funding for it. I’m a Communications major so it’s a really important thing for me that I have good chances of getting in the classes that I need.

@hello - Is there a particular reason you are still considering UCSD? Sounds like it will cost more, less likely to get the classes you need (UC budget cuts), lesser ranked program so harder to get amazing internships/jobs after graduation. Only thing I can think of is you are more attached to living in San Diego than downtown LA.

hellostranger

do you have the funds to commit to USC as well as as UCSD. That way it will give you more time to sort things out with UCSD in regards to you financial aid situation. i know that technically this is not the right way to do this by committing to both schools but i think in this situation it might be the best thing to do.

@Kulukai/rbk

So I called USC and asked what the deal was, and they said that my application had been forwarded and Marshall was “working on it.” Sounds like a BS excuse to me.

Doubt anyone remembers, but someone posted a link to a USC transfer course guideline for incoming marshall transfers a while back, i think a month ago. It basically showed a possible schedule you would have; there was one page showing how each semester of the remaining 3 years for an incoming sophomore could work out, and another page for incoming juniors. Anyone have this bookmarked or know where the link is?

@kulukai/BC

i called and they said mid july. the person just kept on saying mid july like i don’t understand english.

@bbgg I have already committed to UCSD, paid the $100 SIR fee and the $650 prepayment for the housing. I heard I can have the prepayment fee back just as long as I let them know before they assign me a room. They haven’t assigned me a room yet so I think I will decide finally by the end of this day. There is no problem for me to commit to both schools but I’m just afraid for some reason that if both schools find out, they might take away my admission =/ lol crazy idea but still scary!

@Kulakai It seems like I am leaning more towards USC. I am from the OC area and I’ve always wanted to go to USC. The only thing that stopped me from SIR-ing the moment I found out I got in USC (late May) was because I knew that I wasn’t qualified for FA. It turns out that they reviewed my FA application again and they approved me and I just found out yesterday! Do you think it’s too late for me to find housing in USC already? How about off campus housing?

It seems like I am committing to USC tonight…stay tuned. LOL :)

@ hello

LOL UCSD didn’t give me a cent! I don’t know my USC FA package yet because I haven’t been accepted… but basically I am the definition of middle class. My parents make t6oo much money for the government to take care of us, but not enough to the point where it won’t hurt us financially for me to go to college.

@purplenurple - It is on the marshall website, go into undergraduate program and click on student advising on the left or whatever and you’ll see links at the top for FAQ/FORMS etc.

It is listed under forms.

@Hello - There is lots of off campus housing in the university park north area. It just helps to be open to living with roomies if you want something more affordable. I have no idea about getting on campus housing this late in June though.

@BCitan - Hey, that is good, at least it is forwarded now. Mine still hasn’t been forwarded :P

@rbk - that is the scripted answer they have to give as they can’t promise any time sooner than that.

hey guys, sorry i’m really confused, can somebody help me out?

i submitted my deposit a few days ago, I don’t know how to sign up for orientation, and I cant log into oasis (I dont have a username/password? i tried usc id/birthdate it did not work). Am I supposed to wait for an email from them or what? sorry if these are stupid questions I just have no clue what i’m supposed to do next!

Also, does anyone know if the only way to send AP scores is over the phone? I called but theyre not sending scores right now.

@kitty - Once you submit a deposit, you will get an email in a few business days with instructions on setting up your usc email and then also signing up for orientation.

thank youuuuu!! I was so confused!!!
