USC 2010 Transfer Thread

There isnt a USC 2011 transfer thread yet :(. Would it be an advantage to go ahead and take Accouting 1 and 2 at the cc that i am attending, if i want to transfer as a sophomore (marshall) next year?

hellostranger57, Kulakai will be there next week, if I’m remembering right. He can tell us what his ceiling looks like. Maybe try asking someone else at Gateway? Maybe by their Facebook page, even.

@Serapher - She figured out an answer. It appears as if every unit other than the model unit has the concrete ceiling painted in an off-color that makes it look rather unfinished.

Maybe someone will take a photo and post it. I am currently in freak-out packing mode so I won’t know until I move down hopefully the beginning of this coming week.

The ceiling is painted and looks unfinished because of a lot of imperfections. If you remember it well, the ceilings in the model unit are flawless without any bumps or stubble/bump-like shapes of concrete. The ceilings on my apartment unit definitely has A LOT of those. It’s like concrete that had bubbles on them while it was wet and then just dried up that way. Also, the paint doesnt look right.

Lol maybe i should just take a photo next time? I just cant describe it well haha. I spoke with 2 girls from the 3rd floor and they told me that they had the same unfinished look on their ceilings.

Boo!

Like gravel? The ceiling of my room in Virginia is like that, too. Not that it excuses their making the model room different.

Not exactly but some spots look like smaller than the typical gravel. I’ll make sure to take a pic when i go there next week.

@Pikachu – If you take accounting, make sure you take the whole series at your community college. If you take both 1 & 2, you’ll only have to take the one abridged core concepts of accounting course (BUAD 305). If you just finish 1 and not 2 (and vice versa), they’ll make you take both 1 and 2 at USC. However, if you took both courses at a four year university, then they’d transfer over and you’d be exempt.

I’m new to this whole transferring process (first year CCC student for Fall 2010) so I apologize in advance for all the questions…

I would like to transfer to USC Marshall for Fall 2011.

Since I got mostly 3’s… and looks like there’s some new policy for AP credits, good game for me. I think I can only get credit for European History because I took that Spring 2008 and English Language & Composition (got a 4).

Is that 8 units so far then?

I am taking 18 units for the Fall. And will try to take 8 during the Winter. So I should have 26 units by the time of application… or are my AP units also factored in? Do I have 34 units instead? Will they be looking at my high school record heavily or no?

Also, if I want to get into Marshall, am I supposed to finish pre-reqs by the time of application? Or if I am going to take them that Spring, is that ok?

Assuming I take 18 more units the Spring, and then 7 more in the summer, I should have 51 units/ 59 units with AP? I may be able to petition to take more units, maybe like up to 23 for Spring.

Am I going to be able to graduate in 2 years after transfer?

@Renouveau

This should answer your AP question:
[USC ARR : Articulation : Advanced Placement Exams](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/apexams.html)

Regarding high school grades, if you have completely less than 2 years of college work (usually less than 60 semester credits) then your high school academics come into play. You should call and clarify if this includes or doesn’t include credit from AP exams though.

You mustcomplete the Calculus and lower level writing requirement to be considered for admission. If you are taking one of them in the spring it is ok (I took calc 1 this last spring and was admitted to Marshall as a transfer).

You’ll have 2 years after transfer if you complete Calc 1, lower level writing requirement, diversity requirement, Financial/Managerial accounting, and General Education Categories 1,2,3, and 5.

See here: [USC Marshall Undergraduate Program Admissions Transfer Students](http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprogram/admissions/admissions-transfer-students.htm)

Most of the info you are curious about is available on the USC & Marshall specific websites so I’d advise you read up :)

how many units are you guys taking in the fall? I’m debating on taking 18, but I feel more safe with 14 for my first semester at USC :/

I’m signed up for four x 4 credit courses, a fun 2 credit, and a 1 credit phys ed course. The latter two I’m doing pass/fail so I don’t have to worry about them much.

If you’re paying for the full 18, you might as well get your money’s worth.

I’d suggest you sign up for what you’re interested in but pay attention to the drop/add deadline, so you can drop any courses without penalty so it won’t detract from what you really need to do & study. It would be a shame to stress unnecessarily because you’re taking too heavy a load and can’t net work & take advantage of the non-academic opportunities at USC.

I was going to do the same as kulaki but decided that those 3 extra units would allow me to workout and have enough time to study and relax.

I have a question has anyone taken the alcohol education exam. Apparently all new students are required to be able to register for classes.

@striker15 - My schedule is setup so I can do the same. No real classes until 2pm M-TH so I can work out or study in the mornings and be done by 6pm. I blocked everything together back to back though to make that schedule happen.

@ziggyusc - Yes, everyone has to do it and it takes a while to work through it. It seems like it was developed for incoming freshman or those who have never drank or been around alcohol use before.

At least for transfers, you don’t have to take the alcohol course before registering for classes. The deadline they gave me was August 16, 2010.

That was a waste of two hours, I passed with an 88%. I need to work on how much alcohol various concoctions contain:)

Yeah seriously. I needed a drink by the time I made it through that thing rofl.

Congratulations, guys! You’re now bartenders. Also, peer mediators. Work starts tomorrow, no take backs.

We got a professional bartender living in GW with us. I won’t mention their name though :)
