USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Has anyone received their parking permit in the mail yet?

@unknownpleasures - I was wondering about that too, but I emailed the transportation department last week and the permits are actually going to be mailed the middle of this week. So I’m guessing it should arrive by Friday/Saturday.

Very disappointed in the way that University Gateway handles their lessees. They’re very inefficient in their process and there’s no notification of progress at all. Friendly they may be, but being on commission based compensation forces you to be. Let’s hope the facilities aren’t as gash as their customer service.

@KHPatel - Agreed, you pretty much won’t hear anything from them. I’ve been able to get answers or help with anything I needed by just calling or asking on their facebook page though.

I’ve had an issue with email response and also with getting them to forward some paperwork. The former I handled just by calling. The latter I’m not overly concerned with at the moment. I’ll handle it when I’m there, in person. Using the Facebook page is probably a good idea if you can’t get anything going by phone since it’s put into public.

Yeah, one of their staff answers the facebook page wall questions at least 1-2x a day including weekends and they will email you your answers as necessary.

@kulakai oooh interesting! Better hit me up if you guys have something goin on! I could always use a really good drink  haha

thanks sky-raptor

I was worried since I only live like 7 miles away from campus. Didn’t want to deal with a permit lost in the mail.

can someone explain to me what my financial aid package means?

Total cost of attendance: 46,208
Awards- Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan: 5,500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: 2,000
Total awards: 7,500
EFC: 38,708

So I don’t get it are those really awards or loans? Am I gonna end up paying 38708 at the end or 46208?

38708 this year , 7500(+interest) after you graduate
yay?

Isn’t EFC the “expected family contribution”?

pokeprad - ya it is … I still don’t get this though

Those are loans. The unsubsidized loans will accumulate interest. The subsidized ones will gain no interest. They both have to be paid back, with any interest, after graduation. So, you pay 38,708 per year until you graduate then settle the other two.

Interest rates: http://www.direct.ed.gov/calc.html</a>
You can go on a payment plan after graduation but interest will still accrue.

Won’t let me edit so I’ll clarify something here. The subsidized loans do not have any interest charge while you’re in school but do gather interest after graduation. You’ll get a 6 month grace period when you first get out on both subsidized and unsubsidized loans. You don’t have to start repaying until after that.

Just got my internet connection up and running at Gateway! Anyone else moved in yet?

For those curious, network speed test results:
<a href=“Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test”>Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test;

Kula - that’s way better than my verizon dsl here at home. haha. I can only wish for those speeds.

My guess is that bandwidth won’t be so great once more people move in.

I’ve been kind of spoiled, ~30 Mbps for the last two years. I’m happy that they’re at 10, though. I was actually thinking of asking.

Blazing fast! Doesn’t “fight on” as much as I’d like for it to.
