@ LagunaSC-Thanks for the info! This would only be my second rec letter, so I’ll definitely ask her to mail one in for me.

Just got off the phone with admissions and financial aid.

These were just some questions I had that were cleared up.

1) Updated transcripts should be sent in ASAP. For those who took winter semester/quarters. (Regardless of grade received)

2) 2009 Tax returns must be sent to USC as soon as they are filed, and must be updated on FAFSA/Profile asap. According to the counselor, they do not have to be turned in before or on March 2.

@BigJohn- As a veteran (assuming you meet the requirements of active duty service/federal activation as a reserve component, honorable discharge, etc) you do not have to file your parent’s income information. You are considered an independent by the federal government as well as USC. There should be options in the FAFSA/profile that eliminate parental income information boxes when the “I am a veteran” button is chosen.

And just for timing purposes, after roughly about a month, all documents have now been received by the office of admissions and is updated on oasis/connect.

How do we update CSS profile?

Heyyy word from current SC students is that housing has just about run out. I don’t know what that leaves for transfer students if/when we get our letters…but I’d start looking for alternative housing if you were planning on living on campus.

Any of you who are applying for transfer should join the facebook group so everyone can share information on potential housing options or look for roommates:

[Welcome to Facebook | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up)

just ignore brianlee’s post. you can’t update the CSS profile. but for the fafsa u have to update all the numbers and change “will file” to “already filed”

and all tax returns must be postmarked by march 2nd or faxed in.

My mistake, shouldn’t have put profile, but the FAFSA is the one that has to be updated.

But in regards to the tax returns, I was told by the financial aid counselor that it was not necessary to submit them on or before March 2.

“Tax returns are due as soon as possible. You will not receive a financial aid package until you submit your tax return copies.”

@BigJohn

I’m a veteran myself and although FAFSA doesn’t require your parent’s income info, USC(CSS) will require your parent’s income as long as you’re under the age of 26. Sucks but this is what I’ve been told.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Whaaaaat housing has almost run out??? I want to live on campus it would make things so much easier :(((( plus how am I ever going to meet people on campus if I never go?? That’s super irritating.

i would just like to point out at this time last year the usc 2009 transfer thread was only at page 65, we are almost twice that and they ended with 1108 haha.

@daisy- dont worry it wont be hard to meet people off campus, every time ive been to usc its been super easy to meet people and you can join the greek system which usually expands your network drastically. and you will meet people in your classes and what not. dont worry!

yea… not living on campus really lowers your chances of meeting new people, then again there are so many events and awesome clubs at USC, that you’ll surely meet new people. I was there at USC last Friday for my friend’s poker fund raising tournament for his club and I met some AWESOME USC people there that were so down to earth.

Funny thing was before I joined the tournament and I thought to myself, that if I get really far into this tournament , maybe this is some sort of sign that I might get in, and surprisingly i made it as the last two people in the tournament and won the 50$ 2nd prize instead of the 1st place PS3 prize :[, but it was a memorable experience and I hope it really is a positive sign for getting accepted :D.

HEY everyone! I go to the University of Arizona and am planning to transfer as a sophomore! i am kind of scared bc I dont know anyone and want to find a place to live or else I will have to take the metro from orange county everyday. so could you tell me a place I could live with people who are transfers? I dont really want to live with freshmen. I want to live with other people that have transferred. Thanks and if you are planning to transfer nice to meet you!

iloverome: You could ask around or simply find apartments that will place you randomly. I currently am looking at a few apartments directly across the street, and there are definitely a few decent places.

@iloverome: if ur a hot single female, hit me up and we can find an apartment together fo sho iloveroom with u

Hahahahahahaha

Do many transfers get interviews/meetings with the assistant dean of admissions or any other administrators? I’m pretty nervous and feel as though this meeting is a make it or break it situation.

@fivefootfree Woah, you’re going to get interviewed by the assistant dean?!? Dang dude, good luck!
And no, rarely do transfers get to be interviewed by the assistant dean. They chose you because they think you may be an outstanding potential USC student. They also just want to get to know you better. Think of your goal of getting admitted into USC and you will do fine!

@fivefootfree I hope you don’t find this too intrusive, but is there anything ridiculously special or different about you that would make the assistant dean want to meet with you? I’ve just never heard of this happening, but I’m pretty sure it cant be a bad thing because they wouldn’t waste their time talking to someone they’re going to reject. Also, what major are you applying for?

@HOUSING IN GENERAL There is definitely a large number of students transferring to USC every year, so I really don’t think finding friends will be a big hassle. Even without the transfer, at most universities, the vast majority of people are nice and outgoing, so classes would definitely let you meet new people, even if you aren’t living on campus.
But yeah, housing with a freshman would probably not be ideal, I’d really only want to do student housing if I could get into an only (or at least mainly) upperclassmen building, which would probably be hard to do. I think I’d rather do off campus housing than live in a dorm with a bunch of freshman…

@Lakersforever24 I don’t think the single part is nearly as important as the “hot female” part… First, college is a time for breaking up. Second, even if they don’t, hot female will attract other hot females, some of whom might be single. So I will take her even if she isn’t single, because I’m not that picky!

Woo! Finally got my winter grades in, sending an updated transcript to USC now. I’m hoping this will eliminate the need for an SGR (well, that and the 51 units I’ve completed…).

@fivefootfree - I believe last year someone was called and asked if they had an alternate major they were interested in. It seems a bit early for that, but maybe that’s what is going on? Sounds promising regardless of the reason! Good luck!
