USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@foodmunkee

I’m pretty sure that once we get the status update that reads “We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application,” we won’t get another update until decisions are sent out. Give it a couple months ;)

@Kulakai-- So it sounds like your transfer GPA can hurt you, but not help you. Is that right?

Yes. For example:

Applicant A.)
Transfer GPA 4.0
USC GPA 3.9
Gpa used for honors consideration: 3.9

Applicant B.)
Transfer GPA 3.0
USC GPA 4.0
Gpa used for honors consideration would then be 3.5?? (if combined in a cumulative way)

so since were all waiting…lets keep the thread going with something more interesting.

Why USC over every other school?

Are you going to join USC’s greek life? Why or Why not?

First thing you will do if you are accepted?

To be honest, I dont know an answer that really obvious. I’m going for undergrad and majoring in Psychology. So I think I’m going so that I can go back to USC for grad school.

I will try to, but seeing how I dont drink or do drugs, it might be difficult for them to understand. But I do love to party :)

After ever-so gently opening the package, I will read the letter over 5 times to make sure I am reading it correctly. Then I will probably smile for the months to come. AND PARTY. :D

There are multiple reasons: it’s my dream school, I LOVE football, the academics are world-renowned, it has the college atmosphere that I look for (Cal Poly lacks it), and, most importantly, I feel like I could call it home.

I will potentially rush for a sorority next year, as I am a legacy for Kappa Kappa Gamma and definitely believe it would be a great way to meet people. However, I do not drink either (though that wouldn’t stop me from rushing), and I am worried about time management, as my grades need to be very strong for medical school.

I would celebrate and rush to get good housing!

It is just the most well-rounded school for me. Amazing academics. The major that I intend to hopefully pursue at USC is ranked top 5 nationally. Awesome social scene; USC students seem to have that “work hard, play hard” mentality, which I love. The Trojan Family is a widespread and caring network, and being apart of that for my entire life will be a rewarding experience. And their football team isn’t half bad either.

I’ve given this a lot of thought, and its really 50/50 for me right now. Joining a frat is a great way to meet people, and it would be nice to be a part of a tight-knit community, but I have just seen too many of my friends go off to college and put partying before school work, and screw up. If being a member of a fraternity requires an immense time commitment, I’ll probably opt out of joining one, but its up in the air at this point.

Celebrate like Kool and the Gang.

Why USC over every other school?
I grew up in a Trojan family…enough said ha. Also, I love sports and business is one of the best in the nation. I want to live in L.A. and the networking is unlimited with the Trojan Family. The school just feels like home and everyone I know at SC is amazing. I agree with spin on the “work hard, play hard” mentality. No where else feels right.

Are you going to join USC’s greek life? Why or Why not?
Definitely! Greek life is a great way to meet people, I’ve been down several times for my girlfriend’s socials and they are amazing. A few people i know have shown me around their different frats and its just an awesome experience you only get once in a life time…and I like to party ;)

First thing you will do if you are accepted?
After I wake up from passing out, I will probably go streaking while i play the fight song!

Why USC over every other school?
The B.S. in Policy, Planning and Management is exactly what I am interested in. Never have I felt like a major has been so personalized to what I want to do. I’ve lived in Los Angeles my entire life and USC just feels like the natural progression for my education. It’s an academic oasis in Downtown L.A. How great is that? The attitude that oozes from USC is also incredibly intoxicating. “Work hard, play hard” seems like the motto that leads to epicness, if that’s that even a word. Whether it be an epic win or an epic fail, I want to know that I put my all into it.

Are you going to join USC’s greek life? Why or Why not?
I haven’t thought about it all. I’ll have to decide if the opportunity ever comes up.

First thing you will do if you are accepted?
Probably scream.

Which is better for communications studies, UCLA or USC (Annenberg)?

I know this is a USC thread, but try to be honest please. UCLA’s Comm Studies is the hardest major to transfer to, (less than 10% ever year) but I don’t understand why people like it so much. I’m a business major and applied to Marshall and I applied to UCLA for Comm Studies just b/c I thought it would help me with PR or Marketing when I get my MBA. But how well does Annenberg compare to UCLA’s Comm studies?

The Trojan Family. It can’t be found anywhere else. The school has all the qualities that I am looking for in college (education, research, community, progress, pride, opportunities, reputation), and USC also balances them extremely well. USC is the first school west of the Mississippi to offer the PhD in Sociology. The student body is very active and there are so many cultural events to attend to at USC. The campus is smack down in South Los Angeles, which gives the university and its students a wealth of opportunities to get involved in reaching out and developing the surrounding community. People are actually proud to go to USC and they show it (unlike the students at the school I currently attend -_-)! And finally, I really, really, REALLY love the school colors (cardinal and gold BABYYY)!

I won’t be joining a fraternity since I’ll be doing Air Force ROTC, an organization which I think has the qualities of a fraternity!

I’m goin to scream till my lungs give out (in a manly way :D), do a prayer of thanks to God, thank my family, reminisce over everyone and everything that helped me get accepted, go on facebook and announce my acceptance, read my acceptance letter a couple thousand more times, go to Ikea to buy a frame for it, frame it, make my USC email address, get some Korean BBQ, buy Battlefield Bad Company 2, play it, buy a bag of Milano cookies, and then go to sleep. That day is going to be one helluva day for me. Booyah ;)

USC has the perfect major for me in Music Industry. Any other school that offers a degree like it doesn’t even come close to the academics USC offers. Adding to the fact that it’s located in the perfect place to work in music… everything about USC is right for me. I feel at home on campus, and I pretty much always have. I don’t have a backup plan, and don’t plan on ever having one. USC or bust.

I will not be joining Greek life at USC, or definitely don’t plan on it. I’m just not the type of person that joins a sorority… I mean I’m down for a good party and all but it’s just not my scene.

Scream. Loudly.

@foodmunkee - lol got that day all planned out dont ya hahahahaha. GOOD STUFF. i get excited thinking about it.

Has everyone’s documents shown up on USC’s document management system yet? They’re still “missing” two of mine, despite the fact that they were sent to USC in January.

@TheGoldFinch - If you sent it in Jan then you should probably call to find out what’s up. Giving them 4+ weeks to process it is enough time.

@TheGoldFinch

I had the same issue. I sent all my documents in January and one transcript was missing. I called today and the person I spoke with fixed it on the spot. They most likely have it but failed to update the system that makes it show up online.

Why USC over every other school?
Although I’ve gone to Long Beach State for the past two years, I’ve spent more time on USC’s campus than my own. I’ve earned an “honorary” Trojan status from my friends but I figured that it was about time to make it premenant. I love the campus, the vibe and I’ve always wanted to go to Annenberg. USC has opportunities that no other Southern Californian campus can offer, and because the Communication’s program emphasis on Media, Law, and Politics is the perfect fusion of all my interests into a single major.

Are you going to join USC’s greek life? Why or Why not?
I plan on rushing. I’ve obstained from rushing at CSULB simply because I have been planning on transferring and the sorority I’d rush for at CSULB is not the same one I’d rush for at USC.

First thing you will do if you are accepted?
Scream. Text everyone.

@Dainese hahaha yup! man the excitement is beginning to build up :D

@deborahmei- wow, your answer to #1 was basically the gist of what I wrote on my app for short answer #3 which asks why I plan to transfer to SC.

Sigh, I have already heard back from UCI and I wish USC could just be even 1/3 as fast in sending out decisions :(

@hstudent890 Then you should love USC! You applied to UCI in late November (meaning it took them 3 months to send out letters). We applied to USC in early February and expect to hear back from them in 3.5 months… so USC isn’t really ALL that slow. This isn’t to say that I don’t wish they would accept our applications back in November so we could know now… But the other large and good transfer universities (Cal and UCLA) take longer than USC to let us know!

Oh my gosh. USC’s system is killing me. I called and they did in fact have all my documents on file BUT they say that I never paid for Part I of the application. I have the confirmation e-mail and everything. :frowning: Looks like I’ll be going to the bank tomorrow in hopes of them printing out proof that I paid for my application. Oh jeez.
