USC 2010 Transfer Thread

For Marshall applicants, did any of you take accounting 1 or intro to financial accounting (the first basic accounting course) ? If so, I just found out that for my school atleast that the accounting course only transfers for ELECTIVE credit and does NOT fulfill the accounting requirement. I was told by my other friend who applied that you will have to take accounting 1 at USC.

If someone could please confirm this or clarify this for me, that would be so awesome, because I’m in a quarter system and next quarter starts in 3 weeks, and I DO NOT want to take accounting here if it wont transfer to fulfill the requirement, as it is an extremely difficult class and the professor at my university is old and terrible from what I’ve heard from my peers. And if I don’t have to take it, I need to hurry and sign up for another random class to keep my financial aid, let me know please!!! Thank you!

If you do not complete both financial and managerial accounting prior to transfer you must follow USC’s curriculum and take them both at marshall. If you have completed both courses prior to admission at your current institution then you are able to take a single semester course that covers material from each-a bit of a review of sorts I’m guessing… if I were you I would try and take that other course before you transfer that way you can open a spot in your schedule for something else.

@mxbile131 thanks for the input, but you said that I’d have to take BOTH financial and managerial accounting? in order to to take a single semester course off ? What if i only take financial accounting, will that basically not count for anything other than elective credit?

@xdzzzrawr - I went through this same dilemma. What mxbile131 said is correct.

"All business courses completed at a two-year college, if transferable, will be considered elective credit.

There is one exception to this policy. Students may transfer two semesters of introductory accounting and receive credit equivalent to one semester of introductory accounting at USC. Then students can register for BUAD 305 Abridged Core Concepts of Accounting Information and complete their accounting course requirement in one semester at USC. In this case, students would not be required to take BUAD 250ab."

I’ve taken both so I will have to take BUAD 305. If you have only taken one then my guess is it will transfer as elective credit and you’ll have to take BUAD 250 a & b which are financial/managerial. USC is the only school I’ve seen so far that requires something like this with accounting course credit transfer.

nvm guys, figured it out, I called a Marshall representative, I’d have to take both financial and managerial accounting, which is not offered at my school, since the accounting course I was talking about (BUS20) merges both financial and managerial together, which is why USC only accept it for elective credit.

@kulakai yea you’re right, she said you just take the abridged course, thanks for the clarification, guess I have to take those 2 hard course at USC then =/. (if i get in that is >.<)

@xdzzzrawr Yeah my parent’s tax return and my non-filing statement was on the “submitted but not reviewed” status for a while until today. I checked in the morning and they were both moved to the “Received” section. I believe they have begun to look over financial aid documents (I’m guessing so don’t take my word for it haha), so hopefully all your documents will be moved into the “Received” section soon. You should probably call USC and ask them about your FAFSA and CSS profile not showing up on OASIS and they should fix that issue up eventually. If they don’t get it fixed, keep on calling them until they do get it fixed. They probably are going through a massive pile of documents right now, so give them time between calls to give them a chance to get the issue fixed. However, remember to persist! :)

anyone :/?

anyone wanna help me out? how do i make an OASIS account? all i have is usconnect.

@foodmunkee, thanks alot! will call them tomorrow for sure.

@sfwarrior25, I don’t get how you don’t know how to make an OASIS account? What are you having trouble with? All you do is go to https://camel2.usc.edu/ESD/IOL/login.aspx</a> and then make an account by inputting in your e-mail, USC ID, that you received, and birthday.

i was having issues with https://camel2.usc.edu/OASIS/Login.aspx</a> hahaha

When I filled out the FAFSA for the 2010-2011 year, I used estimates from my 2008 returns because I had not filed my taxes at the time.

My dilemma is that my income from 2008 and 2009 are substantially different due to a one-time bonus I received. Is there any way that USC will take this into account when issuing me financial aid? I will not be making anything close to the amount I did in 2009, and would not want this to jeopardize any money I would potentially receive.

@nabilesmail –
I couldn’t find anything that broke down transfer gpa for each major. All I found was last years average transfer gpa: 3.66, so hopefully that helps.

@brianlee

It’s based on the specific year regardless if you earned more or less, but you could look into talking to the aid department.

Just called USC financial aid office since I received an e-mail telling me I need to submit a non-filing form for my personal student 2009 tax returns [I submitted my parents’ 2009 tax returns though], despite not earning any income last year or ever really, which I stated in FAFSA as well as the CSS Profile. Just letting you all know that you must submit this form if you haven’t already to the office of admissions, also in that e-mail it told me that I had to e-mail the office of admissions the following, even though this information was also asked on FAFSA as well as CSS Profile:

"* Home Value, Debt, Year Purchased and Purchase Price - Parents
Please have your parents answer the following questions in writing or by e-mail regarding their primary residence: 1) What is the current market value of their home? 2) What amount do they currently owe on the home? 3) In what year did they purchase the home? 4) What was the purchase price of the home? If your parent(s) have sold their residence, please submit a copy of the escrow closing statement showing the sales price and mortgage owed. Be sure to explain the use of any proceeds from the sale. Please include your name and USC ID on the document. "

If some of you haven’t done so, I highly recommend you do these as soon as possible, as I had no idea I had to complete these 2 things until I was e-mailed by the financial aid office.

The e-mail you email to USC with your parent’s housing is fao@usc.edu.

I got a email from Financial Aid asking about my parent’s Federal Income Taxes and my Income Taxes for 2009. I sent both of them in, but apparently they also want W2s

Did anyone else get this request? Did you all send in your W2s originally?

@deborahmei: I sent in my W2s originially along with my parent’s tax return forms. Check out [USC Financial Aid - Applying & Receiving Financial Aid - Undergraduate - New Students](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates1/newstudents.html)
The stuff about the W-2 forms is under the March 2 title (scroll down a bit).

I didn’t get any email from USC saying that I need to turn in my parents’ income tax returns and w2 plus my submitted FAFSA and CSS Profile wasn’t showing up on my document management system nor my Oasis. This alarmed me so much last night I was so close on having a breakdown lol so I called them this morning and said that my Fafsa just didn’t match with their system because they said that I might not have typed in my Social Security. The odd thing is, I did! Weird? So they said they were just going to match it manually.

I’m freaked out =/ Do they just give consideration in terms of financial aid to those people they are going to accept?

Yeah I submitted my w-2s and everything along with my taxes (and my parent’s) but my evil stepmother (who hates me) took a sharpie to my father’s tax return and blacked out all of her information and my father’s social security number. They live in Michigan and I live in CA so I had no time before the deadline to have my father send me a new one… I just hope they accept it how it is because I want to avoid that situation with my stepmother. Ugh. I just looked on OASIS and they’ve accepted and reviewed everything except the tax returns.

@hellostranger57, I really don’t know about your whole FAFSA/social security situation, but I called them this morning asking why my FAFSA or CSS Profile wasn’t showing up on OASIS but they said that they have received and and they can’t figure out why they can’t update it on OASIS, which is odd, since last week they were able to show where it says Documents Received my Parent’s 2009 Tax Return forms, but they told me not to worry about it as they DO have it on file, but that they are unable to load it up on my OASIS.

What I would do is, check the e-mail which you submitted your FAFSA with (assuming you didn’t delete it) and just check whether or not you have that confirmation. I would also go to the FAFSA site and just check to see if they have indeed sent it to USC, in my e-mail confirmation it says that I submitted my FAFSA on Feb 06 2010 and that USC has it in their possession Feb 08 2010, this same thing goes with the CSS Profile, log on to that college board site https://ecl.collegeboard.com/account/login.jsp?applicationId=7&destinationpage=https%3A%2F%2Fprofileonline.collegeboard.com%2Fprf%2FDualYearServlet%2FDualYearServlet.srv%3FOperation%3D2010</a> and go to “Check My Application Status”, it should tell you when you submitted it, and when it was sent to USC.

If these things aren’t showing up accordingly, definetly call USC financial aid office again, and try to prove that you did indeed sent your FAFSA and CSS Profile, but somehow it’s not registering. If this is the case, it may be a problem with your USC application that they are unable to upload, due to some glitch in the system (this happened to my friend who has also applied) and they can’t really seem to fix it. Don’t freak out, I’m just giving you some prospectives of what I know may go wrong, just call and make sure.

@xdzzzrawr thanks! I already checked my CSS page and it says that it has been sent on January 28. So that’s good right?

On the other hand, I cant seem to find on the FAFSA site where it says it is already in USC’s possession. I first filed my Fafsa on January 28 as well but since I had to make changes, it says the received date is February 25. It only says “Processed.” is that it?

Sorry, im such a noob with all of the financial aid stuff :/
