USC 2011 Transfer Thread

@whisper- great resources, thanks so much!! As for the fin. aid. documents, you might just call the Financial Aid department in the morning to ease your mind (assuming you’re capable of calling, of course). I can tell you, though, that I had something missing not too long ago and financial aid sent me an email about it. So I called and we got it straightened out almost immediately, and now my file is complete and I don’t have to worry about it. So I guess what I’m saying is that there’s no cause for concern since they should notify you if something is actually missing, but also they’re pretty accommodating and accessible so if you just give them a call you can probably make sure it’s all taken care of even more easily.
It is kind of funny that I’m so focused on this that I can barely sit still!! I mean, there’s certainly no shortage of responsibilities to fulfill in my life, you would think I’d be distracted enough, but…well, instead I’m just a basket case running around trying to get everything done, while being a basket case about whether or not I’m getting accepted!! Lol it’s a disaster… ;)

I really hope you make it into USC like you want to! But just in case have you thought about emailing or calling your UC to ask about your foreign language situation? It sounds like you have a pretty good reason for thinking the requirement should be considered fulfilled in your case, so I would try to talk to them if I were you. I haven’t taken any foreign language courses at all, so I’m just hoping I can get in to one of my top schools with the understanding that I’ll have to take a language course each semester till I graduate, sigh… it feels like a long shot, but here’s hoping. In any case, I know that I just have to keep my fingers crossed, basically, but you have an actual reason for not taking foreign language classes, so you may want to call them and have that noted in your file, just to be safe. Just a thought.

@HImom does make me feel a little better about this issue though, so…thanks. :)

@hyethga4lyfe- I really didn’t know what to expect when I started an account here! I was afraid, for one thing, that with everyone being “competition”, it would be kind of intense…and I have seen some people come off as pretty rude, but the majority of my experiences here have been positive. Again, thanks for adding to the positive list!! :)

For the writ130 completion… for my articulation agreement it just says:

"Any course below (or two courses, if indicated by “with”) fulfills the lower division writing requirement if completed after graduating from high school and before starting at USC. These courses are also listed in Part II as equivalent to WRIT 130, which is the same as the WRIT 140 course offered at USC:

ENGLISH 201; 201H; 202; 202H"

And I’ve already taken the 202. My counselor never told me about having to take another course to apply, so I’m assuming he assumed I was fine.

I should be fine, right? I’m stressing a little ;)

@transferguy2011

this is the only one i could find

https://camel2.usc.edu/AdmCertification/Commit.aspx

@hyethga4lyfe

That’s right, two more months! I’m not taking any classes this semester but good luck to you and everybody who’s working hard this semester! ;)

@samuelkim

That’s interesting to know that your EFC was pretty much alike in all those schools. I wonder if there is any change regarding UC’s financial aid policies this year since I heard that they were going to raise the tuition again (or they already did maybe). Anyway, congrats to your transferring to Berkeley! I didn’t apply to Berkeley for locational reason, but that’s quite an accomplishment and I’m sure you’re enjoying it up there :)

@transferguy

I could log on and see my same old status. Maybe it’s your browser or Internet connection? I use mac firefox.

@chasethecarrot

Thanks for your encouragement and advice! I’m going to call each UC school that I applied to tomorrow and ask about it. I was thinking maybe it’s too late to make a change now but I’m not the one who’s making the admission decision, so I’ll give it a try. I really hope they will show me an understanding.

It’s good that you told me your USC’s financial aid documents are complete because I wasn’t really worried about my pending status of tax return until now. I was kind of hesitant of giving them a call since I already gave them so many calls regarding my transcripts already :stuck_out_tongue: but you’re right, at this point, I can’t afford to just guess it’ll be put together, especially concerning USC’s busy admissions office.

As Himom mentioned, I think USC is pretty lenient regarding their GE requirement. Matter of fact, couple of my CCC counselors told me that I didn’t have to worry about fulfilling USC’s GE classes. I’m not sure which other schools you applied to, but if it’s private, I think they can work with your situation more than UCs and such state schools (just my impression). Hope everything will work fine for both of us and all of us on this forum! :D

By the way, UCLA’s telephone hours for admission advising is only from 1pm to 4pm, Mon-Fri… Is this due to the budget cut too??

@whisper props to you, you have 4.0 from CC? did you graduate in 08?

What is your second major choice after psych?

I applied to USC for the fall of 2011 as a transfer student and am wondering when we will be notified about admissions? I’m just anxious to be a Trojan! :)

I applied to USC for the fall of 2011 and am anxiously awaiting to hear back from admissions! Does anyone know when acceptance letters are sent out? Thanks!

@islandgirl4 …

they start reviewing transfer applications after April 1st and will notify us by June 1st. Last year the earliest decision went out April 10th.

I’m pretty sure you have the option of taking either of them. USC is saying they both fulfill their writ 130 requirement so it’s up to you to chose one.

My school has it laid out as writ 130 is equivalent to any upper-division writing course.

I don’t think you need to worry about it ;)

still getting the same status… soooo ready to find out
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.

@whisper- I’m hoping you called today and got good news from your UC schools! And USC’s financial aid department. I know what you mean about not wanting to harass them, I’ve called about 30, 000 times in the last couple of months myself, but they’re always really nice and they seem to understand the anxiety that comes with this process- sometimes it even seems like they receive the harassment positively, as showing serious enthusiasm and interest in their school. So, hopefully you got all of that taken care of and you’re on your way to a completed financial aid file and a satisfied foreign language requirement- and consequently, the ability to finally relax!!
Also, thanks for easing my mind on my own foreign language issue. It really has been worrying me, but I’m just hoping, like you said, that they’ll work with me. I’ll have to take a foreign language course every single semester till I graduate, lol, but I’m down! Besides, isn’t it better to do those kinds of courses back-to-back, to keep everything fresh in your mind? :wink:

@transferguy- I’m so excited for you!! I still have the “we don’t need anything else” status, but yours shows that they’re actually reviewing your file…wow!!! Did you apply to a program with an earlier deadline?
Good luck!!!

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
We have received your application, and it appears we need more information. Please ensure you have submitted all required items. Due to the high volume of application documents we receive, allow sufficient processing time.

:(

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. You may submit them at USConnect by clicking “mid-year grade reports”, or by visiting www.usc.edu/midyeargrades. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.

What is the difference between transferguy2011’s message and mine? Am I behind him?

The reason they couldn’t find my transcript… my school is called William Rainey Harper College, but on their transcripts it just says Harper College. XD That was easy to sort out… but then they can’t find my LORs for SCA. :confused: I’m having trouble contacting the professors that wrote them… kind of making me anxious. If I can’t contact them, would it be okay to reuse LORs from last year? I mean, I have sealed official copies sitting around… I guess I could ask a few professors from this semester if I absolutely can’t find the other ones…

And the LORs are only for my first choice major, not my second choice (Narrative Studies) so if I absolutely can’t do anything about it I guess there’s that.

Bleh. Anxious.

But at least my financial documents finally changed from “required” to “pending.” Whew.

So I just called USC Admissions Counselor and asked about the status and he updated it right away… lol. Seems like they are really not on top of their game

@skim319

hey, yeah your status is different. I currently have the same one as you. Transferguy is way ahead of most of us

the statuses normally progress like this:

the one you have is first which is “we have received your application…” and then it goes to “your application is being forwarded to the admission committee” to “your application is being reviewed by the committee” (this is transferguy’s) to “your application has been acted upon”

my wording isnt exactly right but that’s the gist. don’t worry if yours hasn’t changed yet because the likes are they havent even started reviewing transfer apps except for programs that had earlier deadlines.

good luck! :)

Still no update for me…I’m patiently waiting for April 1st to roll around sigh

“We have received your application, and we require no additional information…”

@prok2010

Thanks! I earned my A.A. in December 2010, although my graduation will be in June 2011. My second choice major is neuroscience, but I’m thinking of changing my major from psych to neuroscience after being admitted to USC, if possible.

@chasethecarrot

Thanks for your concern! I called UCLA and UCI admissions and was told that not taking foreign language courses WOULD NOT affect my admission decision! It’s not because I graduated from a foreign high-school, but it just simply applies to everyone (as long as they finished the core requirement for transfer). I feel so much better now! :)

And for my tax return at USC, I confirmed that they received it and was told it should be taken care of. I haven’t seen a change on my status yet but I’m not worried about it anymore since I know they have it. Phew!

I agree, taking language courses back-to-back is probably the only way we can actually learn something out of that language. It’s kind of like math, if you have a long break between courses, it’s hard to catch up even though you aced the previous course… At the end, we can’t wait to become a trojan and study in the classroom… So more classes, more fun! (for now) :p

I am SO SICK of seeing that same farking status for over a month. It’s so painfully boring…waiting…watching…and not doing my Commonapp essay, which is the only thing I need to complete for the rest of my applications. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

My parents finally got around to finishing their tax returns. Anyone know who to send them to? I’m a little lost… Thanks.
