USC 2011 Transfer Thread

@nacliamsi i applied to Viterbi, i have a 3.9 gpa, currently, but found out my writing class doesn’t satisfy their minimum requirements… I’m hoping the rest of my stuff outweighs the writing requirement…

@nacliamsi so what I’m trying to say is… just hope for the best and keep a positive outlook.

i applied to viterbi as aerospace engineer, and my gpa was about a 3.0, which is not bad but is kind of low for USC, however i had some unique ans special circumstances that got in the way of school which caused me to get some not good grades(some in my major prep classes). do they take that into consideration ? or will they just toss it out

yupp, USConnect is down -_-

i should really be studying for my ethnic studies exam (USC Diversity Req) … but reading CC is just so much more interesting :)

i think i got my rejection last year around this time, so they should be wrapping up … then the appeal deadline was like April 14th or something … i wonder if they consider appeals before, after, or with transfers?

I hope that USConnect being down means they are updating statuses ;)

@snizzle77 … i know right? and by some crazy twist of faith, they begin reviewing transfer apps starting tomorrow and get us decisions by the first week of April :slight_smile: … i don’t know exactly what i’d do from happiness.

hey, we can dream right?

i’m sure if they REALLY wanted to, they could get out decisions a lot quicker. USC’s admission process is very old fashioned compared to other universities. i guess its good for us though, because they spend more time on our applications.

You guys have me worried about this withdrawal thing…that’s what W stands for, right? I have THREE withdrawals on my record… this is because last semester my school started a new policy that got students automatically kicked out of classes (called “administrative withdrawal”) if they missed a certain number of class periods. Daycare for my son fell through last semester, so I often couldn’t get him taken care of so I could go to class. A little over halfway through the semester, this caused me to pass the maximum number of absences and I got kicked out, even though I had straight A’s! It really sucked…but surely USC would take into account those circumstances, right? I mean, that’s different from just dropping a class because you don’t want to take it or something… right?

yikes…

@chasethecarrot

I have 7 W’s on my transcripts…I talked to my admissions counselor about it and they said just write a letter explaining why. W’s aren’t a good thing, but if you have an explanation why you have them I think that should be okay. Ive read on this forum somewhere that someone was accepted with 7-8 W’s.

I think that the admissions counselors look at everyones applications individually, so if you have good reason for the W’s you should let them know.

@Eddie you have a great gpa. i am applying from turkey, so i dont even know if my classes are equiavalent :slight_smile: but my high school and my current university have high reputation so i am just counting on them. which department did you apply?

@diver23 i checked out last year’s transfer acceptance post. most people had higher gpas than us. but i saw only one person who applied to industrial engineering. so i hope competition will be lower in engineering than in other majors such as economics or business

For all the Marshall business majors the first admit from last years thread was may 5th… Looks like some still have lots of waiting to do

Is the website still down for everyone?

Does anyone know around what time people would start to get SGRs? And did they come through the mail, or over usconnect?

Just talked to my Econ teacher today and she was talking about how there will be VERY few summer classes available due to budget cuts at our school…

I desperately need to complete the Writ 130 requirement and Business Calc this summer… AGHHH ■■■

In the SGR’s, if they are sending it with intent of waiting to see if you complete a required course, will they actually state in there “hey Snizzle77, you need to take ____101 before we can accept you”???

Or else how can we tell if they just want to see our grades, or if they want to make sure we take a required course? (assuming that on the app, in the courses in progress, we DID NOT have that required course in there, and they can see that)

@MDG099 … still down for me

@snizzle … i believe they just request the grades to “help with the decision”. i don’t think they specify

I could log on but it’s the same status :frowning: And my tax return is still pending!

OMG :smiley: after a month of checking my USC status, it has finally changed!! It says,

“We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.”

Good? Bad? I don’t know, but hopefully I will get my decision soon!

@Zjgar

Congrats! What’s your major by the way?

I am a transfer student majoring in Architecture so it makes sense. Some students who get admitted get placed into a summer studio, so it makes sense that we would find out before June 1st. Hopefully this is good hah, my backup major was engineering at viterbri.

@Zjgar

I see, it must be nice! Hopefully it’s a good sign for all of us, indicating that transfer applications are starting to be reviewed. Last year’s first acceptance mail was from Viterbi so I think both of your majors are going to be quick at giving admission decisions. Good luck to you and all of us!
