Thank you. I’m just going to re-post this on every page as no one seems to abide by the advice I am giving.

The statuses are unreliable. Do not read into them.

Yeah, I nearly had a heartattack when my status changed to “The committee is reviewing…” but it’s still that same status after I have received my admission letter.

You know what’s funny though? Checking the status is muscle memory to me now. I just caught myself checking it and it’s like, “you idiot! your packet is right next to you! What the heck are you doing?!”

@Sydneyral
First off congrats and second I bet that’s one of the coolest feelings you could have right now checking the status and having your acceptance right next to you and we should soon all feel the same!

My status has remained “we have receieved your application and it appears we need no more additional info…”, so I just decided to call them and see, since the statuses aren’t very reliable and I was just curious.

They told me that they received all my info and all transfer applications are being reviewed, and they can’t give out any information on whether transfers have been accepted or not, but we will find out before June 1 lol.

@snizzle77

Thanks for calling and finding it out for us! My status is the same as yours, but it makes me happy/nervous to know that they officially started reviewing our applications…

I was just surprised when someone said (earlier in this thread, yesterday I think) that USC gave them a more personal update, and said that they were specifically reviewing their own application. The lady just gave me a general status, saying that transfers are all being reviewed now since freshmen are done. Then she said the furthest info she could give me about my status was if I got all my documents in :/

Looks like I’ll just have to be patient :)

@snizzle77

I’m assuming your saying the person who said that they were specifically reviewing their own application is me. FYI I straight up asked the lady what was the stage of progression my application was in and she kindly told me that it is being reviewed. But even so, does it matter?

Oh! Sorry didn’t remember who said it
That’s odd, I asked mine the same and she said that she could just give me a general status that all transfer apps were being reviewed.

And no it doesn’t really matter lol I was just curious!

It’s subjective. Depends on the person and the mood they’re in. I can recall from last year people called asking the same questions and some received detailed answers while others did not.

The most common case is the telling of admissions over the phone. A few people found out through the phone (using a legitimate excuse or fake doesn’t really matter) while others simply received a statement saying USC does not release decisions over the phone.

And the next question will be what excuses. The two most common were:

1) I need to send a deposit to school X but I have not heard from USC yet and knowing so would help me in the decision. So people were told that way.

2) I’m going away. Blah. Blah. Blah. No one will be home for weeks. May I know my decision.

As I stated, it depended on the person who handled the phone call.

@whisper11 and snizzle

i have that status too except mine is the one for freshmans … so i called and he said its weird that i have that status but i shouldn’t worry because my file is complete and they have everything … however he didn’t mention that they’re reviewing yet :/

SYD- CONGRATSSSS!!!

Sorry guys been enjoying spring break! Best feeling in the world. We wish you the best!!!

@MitchAPalooza

i was actually wondering about that the other day. (calling and asking for the decision because of other schools) … i’m going to have other admission notifications before SC’s, so i’m going to need to know if I should give a deposit or not

@hyethga4lyfe

Don’t worry, I have the same status for freshmen. I recall last year’s applicants had the same problem but it didn’t affect them in any way. I think in an earlier post, somebody mentioned he/she called their regional counselor and was told it didn’t matter at all.

@Mitch

Thanks for the information. If I’m really desperate, I might use one of your excuses… (and actually I applied to other schools who’s deadline for the deposit is 6/1)

oh well… the only way we can find out if we got admitted or not is by mail anyways right? Sigh… it will be such a longgggggg wait :(

I wonder if they release decisions by majors or what? I also talked to School of Policy and Planning and they said that “Admissions decisions happen in the central admissions office. If admitted to the university, that’s when you’d begin to work with each department.”

I’m so confused. Does that mean our first choice and second choice major doesn’t even look at our application?

@h0n3ytea

the admissions committee in the central office i think looks at the app and sees if they want us at usc and then the same central office considers us for each major (i think…) but im pretty sure sppd never actually handles our applications

@Bangkok

Thanks for clearing things up… what do you think our chance is for SPPD? not a lot of ppl apply to it !! lol

I looked from last yrs thread and one girl got in at around 4/27… I’m so impatient lol. I’m also waiting for the UCs as well but USC is my first choice!!

@Sydneyral

Omg wow! Congratulations!!! You got into one of the most selective programs in the nation!!! But, you know, I had a feeling you would get in! ;)

@ Mitchapalooza:

That’s what I was thinkin also… makes perfect sense. Gonna have to just be patient and wait :D

@hyethga4lyfe:

I have the freshmen status also! I don’t think it makes a difference though, since in our profiles and applications it shows we are applying for transfer.

To anyone that has been accepted by USC, did the letter tell you their decisions relative to both of the majors you applied for?

For example for mine would it be something like:

1st priority: Marshall B.A. - (accepted/SGR/rejected)
2nd priority: CLAS I.R. glob. bus.- (accepted/SGR/rejected)

What if the 1st priority is SGR? Is it kind of like, you put all the eggs in one basket and opt for the 1st priority SGR and see how that goes, and if you don’t get in, could you still go back and choose the 2nd priority acceptance???

hey! Gateway is an awesome place to live at especially since you’re transferring. I transferred in as Junior so it was through Gateway where I met my first few friends at SC. It was their first year of operations when I moved in so a couple of hits and misses there. But I think they’re getting better as time goes by. It’s a brand new place so you can’t go wrong with that. If you’re worried about safety, Gateway is a safe place to live at I assure you. Honestly, Gateway’s rates are more expensive than other options but really, you get what you pay for. Also, it doesn’t feel like an off campus housing to me. It almost feels like a dorm since everyone knows each other. During the weekend, so much things are going on. It’s a nice and fun place to live at. Check it out for yourself if you want to see. Are you transferring to USC this coming fall?

@snizzle77
no they dont break down the majors for you and whether you got accepted or not
