holdfasttodreams- You can’t take the foreign language test online.

As for the CAL GRANT/Financial Aid people, I asked the following questions and got these answers…
Q:Since I am eligible to receive the Grant’s full $9700 amount, will that mean that my loan will be eliminated?
A:1. The Cal Grant will reduce the University Grant dollar for dollar. You will not be able to receive more than you already have received in your financial aid award.

Q:Also, we have to pay the Work-Study amount to USC before the school year begins?
A:The work study amount is the amount that you can earn by working at a job on campus. You do not owe this money to the university.

I’m still confused about that one, in the financial aid brochure it mentioned something about first we PAY the amount to the University and then we work for it and get it back. Does anyone understand this differently? My parents and I are working on monthly costs and budget and we need an approximation. They’re not going to limit me, they just really need to know how much to pay.

Lastly,
Q:Are the health, orientation, and housing commitment expenses I’ve payed out of pocket part of my expected contribution?
A:Health insurance is included in your financial aid budget. Housing deposit and the orientation fee are out of pocket costs. The housing deposit will be returned to you at the end of the year.

i got placed in the sierra apartments for next year… is that a good or bad thing? should i take it or get on off campus apartment? any suggestions?

lreds4life- Yep. It’s in the Welcome Week guide. You should be getting it pretty soon if you haven’t already. There’s lots of stuff to do, it’s pretty crazy. ^_^

@DJS3CA- i doubt it man. I just got an email today saying that housing is currently full.

“We regret to inform you that currently housing is full and we will not be able to offer you housing at this time. We will continue to make assignments and will contact you to offer you housing as spaces become available, until August 8th. If we have not been able to offer you an assignment by August 8th, your application will be cancelled.”

DJS3CA- Sorry, i don’t quite understand your question

Selk21- I am currently a homeless. I plan on going to the orientation on July 25 and ask people to see who else is homeless and want to gang up and rent an apartment.

yeah I’m trying to like find the right people to room with. While it’s getting to crunch time I don’t wanna just jump into housing with anyone and then regret it. Cause I plan on rushing frats and stuff, and last year my entire floor were like completely anti-greek/anti-jocks so not a fun year. Like I plan on studying really hard, but I do want to have fun at times.

I dunno, I think it’s worth it. Pledging isn’t that bad. Lol if you’ve worked a retail job or any customer service job it’s eaiser than that. Like before you know it, it’s over, and then you get to have the networking of a greek system, socials etc.

Selk21- Don’t worry I’m just as homeless as you are! Except a friend from high school that goes to usc offered me housing in a living room. But I haven’t really negotiated anything. Man this housing situation sucks…Any girls out there homeless??

lol thats the thing that is really getting me heated about USC. Like I cna understand not having a lot of transfer housing, but notifying us so late is really obnoxious. Like I really feel for those just finding out. Like I have a couple options right now. I can either takeover a 1 bedroom in Tuscany lease, or take a shared room in a 2 bedroom. I would prefer the Tuscany one bedroom, I just need to find a guy to room with me.

I’m desperately looking for housing too… really want a place in Tuscany… Selk21 if you decide against taking up that 1bedroom in Tuscany I’ll gratefully take it off your hands =)

Tuscany is nice and all, but I dont find it worth it to spend 900 to SHARE a room. That is ridiculous. I would rather just get my own room somewhere else…

ugh…sc just informed me that they can’t find me a housing spot…so i guess i’m homeless too…

My second option was to just commute…but parking permits are also gone!!! the only other one the works for me is the university parking center which is FAR!! this sucks

btw: am I the only human aging and development major? haha

This is ********. I just called the orientation dept. or whatever, to try to sign up over the phone since I just got in on Thursday, but they said I still have to wait 7 days, and so that means that I will not be able to go to orientation, and neither will anyone else who just got in. That is BS that they are not making another orientation session.
Oh well, at least I got in… I have to be thankful for that :)
