*******USC Class of 2020 Results/Discussion Thread**********

when Texas weather decides to pull a fast one on you and freak out with a monster hailstorm… As if I need to be any more stressed (and now my wifi is down rip)

Am I the only one who is already writing an appeal letter?

@“Engineering freshman” According to the rep that visited my HS, if you can’t be admitted into your first or second choice major but are still a good enough candidate, you can be accepted as an undeclared under Dornsife.

As for engineering… When I went to Explore USC, they let us in on a little known fact which is that if you’re accepted into Viterbi under any major, you’re technically accepted into all the majors within Viterbi (e.g. When I start at USC, I can switch out of comp sci and go into biomedical engineering). Take that as you wish

@chukrook mine has as well

Everyone is so freaked out about admissions, and it makes perfect sense if USC is your dream school like it is mine.
For all the people freaking about the acceptance rate or rigor- I have one thing to say: Of course, USC is an amazing school, and therefore, it is extremely selective and difficult to get into. With that being said, there are also tons and tons of under qualified students who apply “just cause”(the more rigorous a school is, the more apps they get, but the apps aren’t all necessarily 4.0/2400 students) Not saying a student with scores or a GPA below the average cannot get in, of course.
The 16.5% is very daunting, but if you think about the thousands of thousands of applications that were far below USC’s median, maybe it isn’t as bad as you think. If you do meet the range, or are close to it, maybe the school isn’t as difficult as the 16.5 tells, because of the multiple students who applied with stats out of the range.
I don’t know if that is comforting to some of you or not, but I decided to throw it out there and see.
Good luck to everyone through this tough and stressful process.
Fight on.

Every year the scholarship notification moves to message history in the portal in order to make room for the new message that will be posted on friday about your admission decision. Everyone will have this change eventually so don’t read into it

It looks like the admitted yellow envelopes are 8 X 10 and the rejection letters are normal sized white envelopes.

@KELLYYYY what are your stats if you don’t mind me asking? (:

i read into everything there is no stopping point

@DirtyDonut I applied to USC as a transfer student this year. Last year I didn’t get in as a freshman but now I’m on the TTP. In high school I had 4.0 uw. 4.3 weighted. 6 APs. 32 ACT. and I’m a legacy. Now I won’t know my transfer decision until around June. I just thought I’d pop in on this thread and see if I can answer any questions.

Not sure if there are any parents on this thread, but here’s a post from last year’s thread:

“Just a suggestion - parents, let the kids get the mail, let them open it, they earned it, let them have their moment! No fun watching someone else open up your Christmas present. USC does it old school so kids can have that magical moment when they see the packet for the first time, in the mailbox or on the counter… it is a classic moment not to be missed if possible.”

^^^not if you get rejected :frowning:

My friend was told that because of alumni/trustee connections and such that they were going to be put on the presidents list for USC. Does anyone know anything about this? I heard most kids usually get in when they’re put in this pool. But idk what it means

@KELLYYYY of you don’t mind me asking, what was your weak points ? Your stats seem pretty solid. Was it your SAT?
My stats are solid however my testing scores are very low. Most kids at my school were able to pay for expensive tutors and got into the 2000 SAT score range. I myself couldn’t afford a tutor so I had to borrow a library book . With countless hours of studying I still got low scores. I have a high GPA weighted and UW but I’m just scared for my tests

If*

Also being that English is my 2nd language it didn’t make it any easier

@DirtyDonut The only thing I could think of was that maybe my extra curriculars weren’t good enough. But thats the thing with amazing schools like USC; so many exceptional students apply they just can’t let everyone in. It was devastating because USC has been my dream school for as long as I can remember but I went to a state school this year, got some of my Gen Ed’s out of the way and met with my USC advisor a few times and now I’m trying again. Everything happens for a reason and although being rejected from USC seems like the worst thing in the world, everything will turn out the way it’s supposed to. That’s what has been getting me through this year.

@KELLYYYY well I hope you get in (:
Good luck and thanks for your insight !

@DirtyDonut Good luck to you too! tag me when you post your admission decision on here!

I wonder what would be considered “good” extra curriculars to them. Like that could possibly be the deciding factor for me, because I don’t do a ton of them. But in the ones I do, I do a lot, for example in one charity organization I get at least 70 volunteering hours per year and have gotten lots of awards. I wonder how much that matters in the scheme of things.
