*******USC Class of 2020 Results/Discussion Thread**********

@imvegetarian2016 Stay strong!

My freaking mail doesn’t come until like 5 PM

Actually nobody can know anyone else’s struggles intimately enough to make that assumption, @waitingbunny

@Merppity , this isn’t the place for this type of discussion so this will be my last post on this topic, if you read my previous post, I would hope you can comprehend the differences between AA and what schools are trying to do. A school does not benefit by letting in kids (of any background) that will ultimately fail, their main priority is determining those factors that indicate a “successful” candidate. Given that, many many studies have shown that simple gpa/test scores are not good indicators of success (simple example, who is more likely to succeed in a challenging college, the kid who came from a wealthy family who could afford tutors and was sent to a private school where students are groomed to look attractive to colleges and got a 3.8gpa/34 ACT or the kid who came from a single parent home who had to work a part time job throughout highschool and came from a poor performing school who got a 3.5gpa/32 ACT?)

Listen, I dont really agree with affirmative action or whatever, especially since it actually hurts me, but saying the lower stat people are URMs is in fact racist. The high stat people aren’t all “try hards.” It just seems to me that the poster is a bit upset about their personal scores. If not, why even say it?

@choirsandstages But when an African American is born into a family that earns $500k+ a year, in a very good high school, those struggles are greatly diminished, yet they still get the same “bump” as an African American born in some poor neighborhood, who struggled much more to achieve the same level of achievement. No clue if USC does it this way, but some schools do, which is what most people dislike.

~happy vibes congratulations to everyone who got in happy vibes~

OMG today we have finally gotten some really great news and tomorrow will bring even more hang in there!

@Merppity Where did you get this data?

@HopefulSenior16 @imvegetarian2016 we all in this together guys . Maybe it’s because we live about an hour away and get our mail somewhat early.

Yo guys don’t forget this is the USC SUPER COOL AND CALM thread! We are all probably on edge, with the exception of those who have gotten in :slight_smile: . Let’s just be happy and hopeful.

@Alamom Just google “USC admissions stats” and the first or second link will have all the data like 50% range for GAP, SAT, ACT, etc. It’s all supplied by the school itself.

@ManhattanSubway @HopefulSenior16 Fingers crossed!

International student in Ontario, Canada got accepted to the Marshall school!

4.0 UW GPA
2300 SAT
770 Math II
700 French with Listening
Good ECs
Good Essays

@Merppity I guess your definition of “Easier” is in reference to academic’s not the life they live correct? Cause most minorities could say your stupid because you have all the time and resources in the world to get perfect scores and grades… Honestly you need to grow up

GUYS. What happened to our Super Chill USC Thread?!? This isn’t the place for a political discussion! We are all tense enough without it.

I’ve seen that link. There is no data about specific scores for African Americans, Hispanics, etc. There is only a general acceptance rate. I agree with an earlier poster that pointed out your misconception. If an admissions committee wants a diverse student body and seeks to fill spots with the “best” from a variety of backgrounds, that is not affirmative action. Furthermore, a 7% population at any university could hardly be considered padding for racial reasons alone. That’s still an ultra-low number.

Now everyone go eat a cupcake and CHILL THE FRICK OUT.

guys :frowning: not the time and place for this. many people are receiving their acceptances and they deserve our happiness and respect.

@wwknight What are you saying…? I said “easier” because the application will be reviewed differently. I never said anything about personal struggle. It was a question about test scores of admitted students, and I answered it as such. While I go grow up, you need to go read the posts.
