USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Package coming from San Diego zip - could that be from USC?

I visited USC for the first time this past November. I am from NJ. My daughter got in a few years ago but chose an East Coast school. My son, a junior in HS, has USC at the top of his list. We have no connections or hooks, like most of you on this thread.

I have to admit, prior to visiting, I had negatively stereotyped USC and did a 180 upon visiting. I feel the need to step in and defend them, even if my point of reference is only a campus visit (but we talked with a lot of students).

We left the campus that day feeling that USC is very diverse and inclusive and offers students amazingly strong and serious academic opportunities. That the students that attend are extremely bright and hard working
proud of their school. They brush off the negative stereotypes because they know they aren’t true
and not at all a true representation of the school. There are some bad apples at ALL colleges, and more try to get in the popular ones.

I could go on and on but there are a lot of long posts on this thread and it’s hard to keep up for everyone, I’m sure. But my son will still apply to USC and it will remain at the top of his list.

Sorry posted twice

@Anne0815 I do not believe my son’s acceptance package showed up on a package tracker whether the USPS Informed Delivery Daily Digest or other service. One of the things I LOVED about USC is how they not only do not release online until a few days after mailing the packages but they seem to have figured out how to do it without it showing up on tracking. It is old school in the excitement. I know most of Wash U last year knew a day or two ahead but USC did not show on those same services. I remember driving up to the house and seeing that package on the porch.

@observer12 Well said. Excellent post.

@prouddad2020 Indeed. Thanks.

@Anne0815 No. And as @JohnGaltIII suggested above, informed delivery has never worked before for admission packets.

@collegemomjam That was our sense after our first visit as well. And it remains our sense 5 years later.

Hello! I applied to USC from the East Coast and I was wondering if the letter/package USC sends for me will arrive before I can view it digitally. Somebody has most likely asked this already but I could not find it.

@bigguy4u Uh, it is addressed almost directly above your post.

I see that the we do not know if the packages have mailed yet and that most people can expect them to come a few days prior to the digital decision being available but I’m more or less just wondering if the same is true for applicants such as me on the East Coast.

@bigguy4u from past year’s threads it looks like they send the package out about 3 days before digital notification. US Mail is supposed to be 1 to 3 days delivery. So I guess it all depends on how fast or slow the mail is running that week.

@bigguy4u They send it out in a manner where a few lucky folks will get it a day early and a few unlucky folks MIGHT get it after it goes digital. But most folks anywhere near a population center will get the package before it goes digital.

Do only acceptances come by mail? Or do they send rejections by letter as well?

Does anyone know how long it takes for packages to arrive for international students? I know that it’ll depend from country to country but, do most arrive before the portal update?

Just wanted to let you all know that informed delivery did let me know my admission decision. I live on the east coast and mail took a little longer to get to me. Informed delivery informed me that I was receiving a package.

I am an east coaster and informed delivery did provide me with the answer to my admission decision. Our mail was received much later than the west coasters. It will list a letter or a package.

@optimistic43 does USC ship via usps or ups?

USPS Priority Mail. Likely going out March 20-22, with portal updates to follow online March 24-25.

The Acceptance Packages:

The admissions packages that go out in the large batch together are not trackable on USPS.

They have been sent in white boxes last few years that fit in most mailboxes, some are left on porches if not. They are a little bigger than a piece of paper and little less than an inch thick. They are impressive and beautiful packages. if mailbox doesn’t hold them, they are left on porch (no signature required).

So it is sent United States Postal Service - the good ol’ mailman. It is not UPS (the brown trucks). Since they come USPS, meaning postal service, and in your mailbox, setting up a My UPS account won’t get you anything here. International packets are sent DHL. They seem to send these out ahead, so some will get there pretty timely, others seem to take weeks, but the portal will update for all on the third day after sent.

Mail technology has really evolved that last couple years, but note these are packages, and it has been up to the sender to enable the tracking on a package. But ahhh some of you think - “we have have Informed Delivery Daily Digest” - the postal service that tells tells you what is coming in your mail that day. In the past and including last year and merit in January, USC did not enable tracking on these package, so it could not be tracked. Since none of the merit packages in January were seen on USPS we expect the same for regular decision.Technology keeps changing and varies by areas so we will see what happens this year. I am sure many will have their conspiracy theories on findings ways to beat the system and find out early. It hasn’t worked so far. The packages posters ask about (“I see a package from xyz location”) will end up being from Amazon.

However, if an acceptance package is sent late or separate from the main batch (like a Thornton audition applicant) they may see it on USPS. We are talking maybe 10 of the 7000 decisions seen this way. And they are received at a different time than the other 7000.

While I understand the anxiety, imo I would stay off of the USPS site and sit back and let it happen as intended - see if it comes to your mailbox! I can think of no more depressing way to find out you are in USC than to see it on My USPS. Seeing it online in some mail program defeats the mailbox moment which can be spectacular. This is a once in a lifetime event, experience the moment - find the package the way it is intended! This is why USC doesn’t just handle it online, a bit old school and torturous for sure, but incredible for those who are lucky enough to get the package. (Frankly, drawn out and not so great for those that don’t get one.)

Best of luck to every hopeful Trojan!

@CADREAMIN FYI–if you have USPS Informed Delivery, each morning they take photos of your mail (or at least some or most of your mail since they are so lazy) for the day and post these pics to your account so you can usually see the mail (NOT PACKAGES) that are to be delivered to you that day!

Wanda M. Austin, USC’s interim president, also said in a recent letter to the school community that the university had been victimized by rogue employees.

“The federal government has alleged that USC is a victim in a scheme perpetrated against the university by a long-time Athletics Department employee, one current coach and three former coaching staff, who were allegedly involved in a college admissions scheme and have been charged by the government on multiple charges,” Austin wrote. “
 The government has repeatedly informed us that it views USC as a victim and that these employees purposefully deceived USC.”

As a parent of a former USC student. THIS IS NOT LEADERSHIP.

@lakergirl6232 Very familiar with USPS, our area was the beta test sight for the My USPS. Again, packages from USC packages are not scanned.
