Do we know what will happen to the kids involved in the scandal ? Currently one of them is on a cruise with the Chairman of the USC Board of Trustees…

@WWWard 95% You are being quite generous with USPS!!! Bahahahahaha!
@Pete 18 It was Lori Loughlin’s daughter on the yacht–her friend’s father’s yacht who is on the board of trustees at USC. When the news broke, she left the yacht. Hopefully she’ll be leaving USC soon (like TODAY!) too…
can you guys please talk about the scandal on another chat, it’s not that hard & not everyone cares
@lakergirl6232 Very true. 95% is their claim. Hardly.
My last comment on Varsity Blues. The latest piece from the LA TImes seems to confirm this was an Athletic Department problem that did not involve anyone in academics nor admissions. Admissions actually raised concerns about a few of these “athletes” and the rogue assistant AD falsified information to send to them. What should make USC folks happy is that this loophole was closed the day it was discovered with immediate firings. What should make USC folks happier is that even though one family was close to the richest Trustee they could not use that to get in through the front door and had to go to this scam artist outside of USC. And as twisted as it sounds, I am proud that folks think my son’s university is elite enough to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and break federal law to get into. USC is an outstanding school that has had some missteps but so have Harvard and the Ivy League if you look at the lawsuit of their discrimination against Asian-American students. Legacies there are let in far easier than at USC, as proven by a legacy at USC whose father is a professor at USC trying to skirt the system. You could literally spend hours reading about the academic success of USC and keep finding out new things. If USC is one of your choices, consider EVERYTHING before making a choice.
@JohnGaltIII Indeed. Good last comment.
when are we expecting a digital admissions decision to be posted?
@cdr2001 March 24-25… unless delays ensue due to this week’s revelations and concerns requiring more investigations. But as @CADREAMIN has suggested, any sort of a delay is actually unlikely - as it would place USC into uncertain waters in terms of competing with other schools and their admissions. They know what the expectations are in terms of the announcements, and they are likely working very hard - overtime even - to meet those goals.
@WWWard I believe last years yield rate was just over 40% btw, not the 37% that had been typical. I’ve also seen the projected acceptance rate will be just over 10%. It will be interesting to see now how the yield plays out for this year.
@JohnGaltIII I saw that article. Whenever I see articles like that, I wonder if a UCLA alum works for the LA Times. Yes there are issues, but painting such a broad brush is not fair to the vast majority who are not involved.
As for USC as a victim, they are a victim if you ask me. They do not benefit AT ALL from this. At least with the “legal” back door, the money that is donated to the university benefits the university, the students, the faculty, etc. Did USC have holes in their process? Yes, probably like the other universities caught up in this, because this is beyond what they would have imagined in their staff. Other Universities involved have also used the “victim” term, and I believe it is likely for legal reasons.
@TreeAlum You are correct. 12.95% admit rate last year… and the yield rate was as you suggest… 40.7% to be exact. 10% would be staggeringly low. Time will tell…
In 2017, the admit rate was 15.95% & the yield rate was 37.1%.
I don’t feel that College Confidential is the correct platform for getting angry about the college scandal. As frustrating as it is, we should try to stick to questions and (when the time comes) acceptance decisions, positive thoughts, and well wishes. That said: does anyone know if USC notifies acceptances via portal or snail mail? Thanks!
I find it slightly humorous that USC folks on this chat are like “no one cares about the massive cheating scandal that is plaguing USC right now. Please talk about it somewhere else” when literally it is a national headline and literally every major news station and paper is name checking USC today as the eye of the entire storm. I mean, sure I get you don’t like talking about it, but let’s just be real and not pretend people aren’t interested. People are interested and it’s a very big deal. :)>-
@california20001 USPS Priority Mail. Likely going out March 20-22, with portal updates to follow online March 24-25.
@KTJordan78 I think the point is this thread was set up to help applicants that get their decision next week. Every year it is set up for this purpose. It has been active for them for almost a year now. There is a thread in College Admissions all about the issue and anyone else can set up another thread on the USC forum if they prefer. It is just nice to keep threads going for the purpose intended. Some are very interested in the goings on, some are not interested at all. Yes it is a headline today, but not a concern for everyone, like any other headline. But all applicants are curious about pending results! And that is what this thread was set up for.
I love your use of “goings on!” I use that too, all the time!!! and I agree with your post.
I understand and agree. It’s just that recent reports state that over half of those charged were connected to USC, and everyone else is connected to all the other schools in the country combined. That’s…a thing. I’m sure applicants that will be making decisions soon are concerned about this and want to be fully informed.
Best of luck to everyone during decision week!
From several folks, they have been putting out a 10% something acceptance rate at the Explore sessions.
10% is significantly low… especially given it was 17.8% just 5 years ago. And when you consider the likelihood of 65K+ applications again this cycle… that is even huger. Most colleges and universities with an admit rate that low have far fewer applications in total.
Any count on the number of applications?
