A few other people on the groupchat and I have been able to make it to the 3rd step (of 7 steps).
What is odd is how amazing their communication, information, and online systems are for the students and parents, it all really is phenomenal. But this process remains awful every year…doesn’t make sense, I know. It seems you either get in right away but if not, it takes a couple hours. If it helps, the people in housing are super nice if you have questions going forward - that’s all I got for this situation, sorry.
@HKimPOSSIBLE do you just keep waiting when the system is not advancing after “Save and Continue” or do you refresh?
Usually it gives me an error when I press save and continue but I just refresh once in a while.
Yeah, no luck here with the housing site. My DD’s (hoped for) roommate got through several steps then timed out. Nothing saved. Now they’re both still trying. I guess it’ll open up for everyone eventually??
No luck for me. I’ve gotten to the third step then timed out and now back at the beginning.
2 1/2 hours (and counting) of frustration, had a glimmer of hope, but never advanced beyond step 2
COVID-19 effect. Kids are home instead of school with more devices available. So more able to focus on getting logged in and use multiple windows/devices. Mini denial of service attack. I looked at the 2023 RD admit thread. Didn’t see mention of login issues, although I’m sure they occurred, but likely not at this scale.
I agree with @ridingthewave My kids were both in and out within the first 15 mins of the housing portal opening their years. But now everyone is at home and remote learning… so the volume is likely way higher than normal. It all works out eventually though.
And I concur with @CADREAMIN For those who enroll, you (both parents and students) will find over time that USC is actually excellent when it comes to student and parental communication, online registrations, their billing portal, etc. Over the past 6 years, I have found USC to be a well-oiled machine for the most part. The admission portal updates and this initial sign-up via the housing portal are rare exceptions. I do agree though that they should find a way to improve both of those experiences too.
Why are you guys applying for housing so last minute? I applied weeks ago. I knew with everyone ordered to shelter in place, more people would be applying early and bogging up internet With traffic. I guess I was wrong. So just wait for off-peak times and try again. They are obviously overwhelmed.
@AllenBDaf Because not everybody won a Merit Scholarship (and got to apply for early housing).
Housing opened today morning, at 9AM PST.
@AllenBDaf Allen, it’s my understanding that this portal didn’t open up until this morning at 9am. Maybe you were part of early admit?
Made it to the log in screen and now can’t get past that. Not going to be the most productive day it seems…
@50nTheHill Have already spent four hours on this - not getting much else done. One of those days…
Oh, I see. My daughter is a transfer from New York and waiting for her decision too, but she was also able to apply for housing after she received the FA email. No scholarships…yet. She just went to the housing sight and applied. No problem. Sorry you all are having problems.
Any SCA Applicants here?
After 4.5 hours, DS finally managed to submit the application. He got the “Application Received” message and a message was sent to his email. I also got an email indicating my credit card has been charged the $55 fee. Hoping it really went in without any issues. Keep trying!
Got ALL the way to the PAYMENT page of Housing Application then it timed out…anybody else experience this?
We haven’t gotten any farther than logging in and then it kicked us out. Sigh. Will keep trying.
@hermit1214 yes my daughter is an SCA admit.
Finished submitting the application!
Here is my tip:
Once you get “timed out”, open three tabs and copy/paste the link that’s loading. That seemed to work for me.
