USC Class of 2024 Applicants Thread

@Pocket22
I also applied for Music Industry. Would you happen to know how many applicants Thornton usually gets for that program? I heard from a friend that only around 25 are admitted each year…

Notifications should start in morning, was told that last week, seems to be on track for that. Of course that is till all the checks and refreshes crash it (which tends to happen). Be patient (like that is possible). Not sure about loading in batches - it is the people checking portals that crash it…

They always have spread out portal updates…the first couple/few (2-4) hours tend to be admits - they don’t send out denials until end of upload process. We have seen portal updates run 4-6 hours sometimes 8, but that was a rough year)…but most (NOT ALL) acceptances have been done in the first couple hours. Of course, this is a new year/situation, but I would think it will run, in terms of time, similiar to before.

Closing browser and opening again, rather than constant refresh sometimes helps.

Regarding visits, ya, it’s sad the caranvan in spring won’t happen, but keep in mind a lot of students choose a school without seeing it - not everyone can afford a tour whether due to expense and/or time. Lots of internationals arrive at school on move in day for the first time - it’s an adventure!

There are so many online resources and people will be really helpful given the circumstances. My suggestion would be to get data from multiple sources as one person’s trash is another’s treasure, as they say, and vice versa. Perspective of student life can be very dependent on who’s perspective (and their background) it is, obviously. Always ask about the good, bad and the ugly of any school, not just the good. Every school has something that fits in those categories.

Does anyone know what time decisions come out?

Morning is as specific as I want to post…people are gonna start checking at 12:01am no matter what anyway. And if a specific time is posted, site will crash. Their portal update history isn’t strong. :slight_smile:

hi all, was wondering how true is it that USC looks at your application holistically? USC has been my top choice for as long as I can remember, but my GPA is low and I feel like that is taking me out of the running. My ACT is quite high (high 30s), my ECs are v focused towards my major and show my leadership, and I feel like my essays are very strong and show how genuinely I want to go to USC. I just feel like my gpa will bring all of that down. Any feedback or thoughts?

@AmTand

Very true. Very holistically.

But with such an approach, it is virtually impossible for others to predict what may or may not occur in your specific case. Your success will instead likely depend on too many potential factors for anyone to correctly evaluate. But they do admit many without perfect grades or test scores. They are after all seeking to craft a well-rounded and diverse freshman class comprised of those who actually have a strong affinity for or connection to USC. They do aim to admit those who they project will thrive well at USC and bring something unique to the campus environment.

So your individual admission decision will likely come down to a composite and holistic analysis of your stats coupled with writing ability / essays, ECs, potential leadership roles, potential other unique qualifiers (URM, First Gen, geography, demographics, etc.), your Why USC? explanation/reasoning, etc.

Good Luck…

@drshman WHAT WHITE BOX?!

@drshman OMG DID YOU APPLY FOR THE FIRST OR SECOND DEADLINE

@drshman Yes… since they are not sending them out this week, your claim needs some context.

@WWWard thank you so much for your input! I am a first-generation south Asian student and really hope that something good comes out of it. I have shown interest whenever I have talked to admission reps and really am hoping my dream can come true.

@CADREAMIN I don’t mean to overstep, and you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to. Just so that people, including myself, don’t stay up till 1 AM, it will definitely be morning as in sunrise, right?

Also from USC Admission’s recent tweets (found in their replies) they’ve said this to two people now: “We’re trying to figure out a way to mail our admitted student packet to you when we all get back to campus!”

@AmTand You’re welcome. Fingers crossed :slight_smile:

WHAT WHITE BOX

im guessing the “white box” drshman is speaking of is either coming from their imagination or theyre a scholarship recipient who got it in january… usc has been pretty clear that boxes are not coming any time soon. they wouldn’t like, prank us or something because the boxes require a risk of spreading the virus in several ways

Hi! I was just wondering if you guys think it will be posted alphabetical or maybe regional? How has it been in previous years?

@20kromero I heard in the first few hours it is normally admitted students and they save rejected till the end…?

Just remembered the 3-hour time difference, lol

Wait so decisions start coming out in the morning or at 2?
