USC Class of 2024 Applicants Thread

@CADREAMIN already cleaned my room so i’m playing ukulele for the time being! keeps me busy and calm. Thank you, and all other returning users who have stuck around to answer questions and calm down this year’s applicants, for all that you do on this thread. The stuff y’all do to keep everyone informed is unparalleled and that’s what makes this thread so great! My family friend who has a kid at USC who applied last year still remembers your user and sings your praises too haha

Portal updates with USC have been generally painful. When they say afternoon, they post earlier and when they say morning, they post later. Historically, 3pm would be the latest…but it’s a different year and who knows what the CS person is doing in there…

And when they post, there are delays, they don’t all magically appear at once…it will be a couple/few hours from first to last. They are calling that “posting by region” but it is just a random spread of results.

Does anyone know the time that decisions will come out?

Please, someone chance me. 35 ACT and 3.4 UW GPA. Will I get in?

@LucasFire792 That GPA is very low for a top 20 school… I would say your chances are rather slim, but your ECs and Essays could balance it out if they’re really really good. ACT score is great, but that doesn’t really matter with your GPA. Good luck though!

@LucasFire792

I understand that you are looking for something to cling on to, but in terms of getting “Chanced” for USC, it is virtually impossible for others to predict what may or may not occur in your specific case.

Your individual admission decision — just like everyone else’s – will likely come down to a composite and holistic analysis of your stats coupled with writing ability / essays, ECs, potential leadership roles, potential other unique qualifiers (URM, First Gen, geography, demographics, etc.), your Why USC? explanation/reasoning, etc.

Further, the choices you made regarding preferred major or majors play a huge role… as you are in essence competing in groups.

Good Luck though. You will know soon enough…

Someone asked on USC Admissions Twitter “Any idea when the East Coast will get theirs?”

The reply was “That’s up to our IT guy!” So I am sure it’s not always simple.

Good luck to everyone! It will all work out, one way or another.

i’m just confused about how every other school i applied to can do a normal, everybody at once, at a previously announced time portal update but USC just… sucks at it and supposedly always has?! i still love them but this is actually kind of painful. anyways, back to the ukulele

Push SEND pls :slight_smile:

@currentbsstudent
hmm Northeastern in Boston had all kinds of delays with EA decisions being released to the portal, and RD seems to be slow now. Michigan rolls some out randomly in addition to a few dates. USC is not alone…

UCLA had technical difficulties that delayed decisions half an hour. I imagine that not being in the office and releasing decisions from their home computers isn’t going to be easy…

Any roll-out involving tens of thousands of applicants can be problematic. The real issues come from that many people checking the portals simultaneously and constantly refreshing. But I agree that USC could do a better job at it. No question.

Hang in there. Unfortunately, my initial guess of 2pm Pacific is looking more likely. I had hoped for 9am Pacific / noon Eastern, but that clearly came and went. They said morning though, and they still have 73 more mins to accomplish that lol.

@2022soon oh totally i’m sure there are others but i think for the most part, schools can commit to a time or at least a general time. technical difficulties happen but its crazy to me that USC is consistently bad at it (perhaps there are a few other schools still that are the same way though). I guess since they’ve historically used packages they don’t feel the need to get on the same page as other schools? Just so nuts haha like i could be waiting for 15 minutes or i could be waiting for 5 hours and i have no way to know! Corona and working remotely is of course a factor too.

Glad you didn’t apply to SLO. Their admissions notification is a nightmare.

Ohio State was also painful as they did the acceptances (for EA) in waves.

For the last many years, I have suggested that if USC Admissions checked in on CC, and especially during decisions week, they would come to understand where they need to and can make improvements. Hopefully they will eventually. It doesn’t help any of you going through it today.

Keep the faith. Find ways to distract yourself. Maybe simply wait for an email first. And good luck…

Maybe the waiting is USC’s way of giving students that “Mailbox moment”?–my student still hasn’t surfaced wanting food yet so maybe they want them up and alert:)

@currentbsstudent
I’m guessing it’s harder than it seems, but who knows. My son is just working on projects saying they will email me when ready…
Meanwhile I keep refreshing the CC forumHaha…
Looking forward to hearing this groups results! Good luck!

Don’t listen to them @LucasFire792! I’ve KNOWN students who have gotten in with lower GPA and test scores than you. You can absolutely be in contention. But, like the longtime experts on here say, it’s all a crap shoot no matter what your stats are. Best of luck to you and everyone!!

Really nervous about this… I messed up my application and they never got back to me when I asked if I could fix it… hopefully that isn’t a mistake on my part.
