USC Class of 2027 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

I sent you another DM with some additional thoughts.

I am currently planning to do a transfer program to join as a sophomore at USC. In my application, I stated that I am a biomedical engineering major and got the Viterbi Pathways program. If I want to switch to CS for my transfer journey, will this lower my guarantee that the pathway provides for me?

Also please give me some thoughts on the VPP transfer program !

What do you mean when you refer to stacking outside scholarships? USC will allow you to stack merit scholarships. For example, if your student received an outside merit scholarship, they can stack it on top of the Presidential merit scholarship.

Most schools deduct merit scholarships from need based financial aid.

Yes, so if your child gets an outside scholarship, it will not reduce your family contribution…it will simply replace grant aid that was already offered.

Correct. They can stack merit scholarships but an increase in income (via a merit scholarship) will result in less financial aid. Full pay families who are not receiving any financial aid, can stack their merit scholarships.

OK, but schools like WashU and UChicago allow outside scholarships to go toward your EFC. Again, not a deal-breaker for us, but a distinction to note.

Hello- Wondering if someone could direct me to the USC yearly payment schedule. We of course know the cost breakdown but are unsure about what payments need to be made by what dates? I feel like I saw a schedule here before my son was accepted and now cannot find it. Any help in the payment plan schedule would be super appreciated.

THANK YOU

Tuition is due each semester on the Friday before the first day of classes.
According to following 2023-2024 calendar, Fall semester due date will be 8/18/2023, Spring semester due date will be 1/5/2024.

@Greatlakes2022 Thanks a lot for your kind offering. We are still deciding between USC (spring admit) and UCLA. What is your son’s experience studying abroad? Does it work out for him in both housing and social integration to USC? Would really appreciate hearing your experience/perspective to help us decide. Thank you!

Hi all - we would love to hear your experience and perspective on the following if you could share:

  1. USC spring admit experience
  2. Deciding between USC and UCLA (interests - pre-law and business)

Thanks a lot!

I may be biased, but I would go with USC, especially if the major is business. As someone mentioned earlier, Poets & Quants, a fairly new ranking journal, has USC #1 for Undergrad Business and even US News & World Reports has them ranked #8 in the country. IMO, USC will give your child a much better college experience and the networking at USC will give him a leg up.

@legacymom1 thank you so much for sharing this useful information and your valuable thoughts! I like how they evaluate the schools and feel very excited about the prospect of my DS getting involved with the Marshall program (although both us parents are UCLA Anderson graduates )

Wow – in that case, it is very gracious of you to consider USC. UCLA is an excellent school, but it is awesome that you are open to USC.

Thank you . DS takes a stronger liking in USC so far and Bruin Day is not until 4/15. I will admit initially I have a natural bias towards UCLA, but we’ve just seen more evidence in how well USC prepares their students for job interviews and performance in real life.

My daughter is at USC (not Marshall), but she has lots of Marshall friends. The resources the Marshall kids have are phenomenal!

Did you ever get any resolution on this? We are in a similar situation. Daughter was admitted EA with some merit but we shocked by the FA offer. Ours is about $35k over our FAFSA EFC.

I’m sorry you’re in the same boat. I haven’t appealed yet. I’m working with someone who’s going through our CSS with me, and then we’ll send a letter asking for reconsideration. It takes 10 more days or so. I have no expectations, and we figure this is essentially a no from USC, but I’m curious and want to do everything I can before my kid gives it up. I still don’t understand admitting students who obviously can’t come. :woman_shrugging:

Sorry you’re having to deal with this. It seems like there must be a discrepancy in what they have your EFC at? That’s all I can think of since that’s what they base everyone’s eligibility of FA on. Smart to have someone go through your CSS with you. Best wishes!
