USC Class of 2028 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

On the USC website it says the decision date is 1/19 and the financial aid will be send out on 1/30. How are they planning to calculate this offer without FAFSA info?

Some schools are preparing a separate tax information portals, so the school can offer financial aid by February, otherwise they are afraid that many parents will be on hold with the final decisions until the very last moment, there are even thoughts of pushing the decision date beyond May 1st. I would think that USC will start to ask for financial info as well.

CSS profile (which is more detailed than FAFSA).

Even CSS has to be verified somehow

I would imagine all the other paperwork that had to be sent in. Tax forms and the like.

If i am wrong ? This year fafsa is changed that fafsa directly get taxs information from IRS . (We recorded all on fafsa by last year)
Just i assume, the schools can confirm our tax information accurately from fafsa this year though it isn’t available by February.

Correct. But USC said it will offer financial aid on 1/30. How will they based it on if they still don’t have FAFSA info?

Yes. I wonder . The portal says fafsa doesn’t come by February. Just curious.

IMO, it is way too early to start wondering/worrying about financial aid. Just focus on acceptances and fit. All financial aid offers will be in before you have to commit in late April/early May. Best of luck to this year’s applicants!

Probably because CSS is required and will use that data. FAFSA will show Pell Grant eligibility (which can likely be surmised from CSS) and the $5500 federal loan.

And remember, as of this admission cycle, colleges are no longer allowed to consider race in the decision process.

Where are you seeing this? In the past, financial aid offers weren’t offered until after RD decisions were released.

Okay, I found where you saw this.

Need based financial aid is not the same as merit based aid (ie. scholarships). Merit based scholarships are not dependent on the CSS profile or FAFSA. They are awarded based on a student’s merit (ie. grades, essays, extra curriculars, LOR)

The USC admission website has a pop up that says that students who are accepted EA will find out if they are candidates for a merit based scholarship by January 30. That is not the same as offering financial aid.

When do scholars who got merit awards get financial award first then financial award is replaced from scholar ship? Or scholars get financial award after getting scholarship?
I am curious.

Students know about their merit first and then demonstrated need is determined for financial aid. What can happen is that if receiving merit, that can reduced the students financial need.

Last year the merit awards came out after RD acceptance. Of course, the students who were awarded the awards knew they were in contention because they were accepted EA and offered an interview, but the actual award came out at the end of March.

Thank you !

Thank you.
So does it really make sense to keep responding to financial aid department requests ( 3rd already) or just ignore it and wait for Friday?
