Reddit said the the same thing. A lot less traffic than last year
I guess that many people past years were interested in portal theory beforehand. So we can see all information from previous years discussion.
Ha. This is exactly why I was looking to find any posts about financial aid additional tax info needed, but majority were removed/ deleted. I understand this is intentional not to spread misinformation, but also last year the financial aid department received FAFSA info on time, so not as much info was needed beyond that.
Stronger pool? Where did you hear that? And how would they know? (Seems almost impossible.)
I was not referring exactly to USC, but both of my son admission office (where he got thru early action) said the level of applicants was much higher than in prior year/yeaes.
I think this is the stigma we are going to see going forward, as more and more employers are dropping the requirements for university degrees or specific university degree and there is certain poll of kids dropping the whole idea of college all together or just choosing 2 year community college. In my son’s high school the counselor said this year was the highest amount of seniors that just chose Community college, even those with good grades.
Thus the kids sticking with higher education with be more and more competitive.
In our school, this year students have highest stats compared past years. Example) 3% of students in 600 students ( 45% is Hispanic and 35% white , 12% is asian etc ) have over 5.0 gpa , each has 4 sand 5s in ap exams and 1500 sat or 34 in ACT . Our school ranks under 3000 public high school locates in California. But this year, most have strongest stats academically first. I never have seen this past years. I don’t know other schools but really so many students applied USC as EA. Really hard to get in
Majority of students in my son’s school who applied to universities chose UC’s or Cal state.
The school has UCLA counselor on staff who is excellent in promoting it. Out of 75% who usually applies to top UC’s 68% will get in.
USC is out of reach financially for majority of the students and their parents in that particular location.
Plus USC is truly using holistic review where gpa is not the main reason in decision. The essays could sometimes prevail C’s.
While UCLA claims holistic review, but in reality GPA is number one factor.
For UCLA, GPA or capped weighted GPA?
Three types. Unweighted, weighted and fully capped.
USC website said nothing can replaced for gpa. When i called usc admission, they said that GPA is most important factor over standard test or ECs and essay. I believe GPA is most important factor so far.
Of course you need to be within the range of 3.85-4 to be considered, but someone with 4.8 weighted could be overshadowed by someone with fantastic essays and extracurricular activities with just 4.2. This is what holistic is.
My son got 5.3 weight and 4.0 . 1580 in SAT .
These are facts but i am not sure what are fantastic essay and ECs. These are really subjective factors. Every student has unique ECs and essay. Acceptance really depends on what admission we count in my opinion.
Sample:
A girl different race adopted by two white gay fathers wrote astonished essay (published) about finding her own identity. 7 year lead volunteer at pet shelter. Average gpa. Got into all 7 schools she applied. Her 5.0 classmates didn’t get to dream schools.
it’s all about how the readers see you.
There also need to be a balance of diversity. 1st generation kids, etc. If everyone admitted will have 5.3 GPA (btw.congratulations) then USC would be Yale. But they don’t want that.
Yes. You are right. I don’t want to post my personal issue. So i deleted.
Can we try to keep the conversation here related to USC Class of 2028?
I keep hoping and waiting for conversation about USC 2028. Anyone???
I wonder how common it is to be offered your second choice major? My child applied for the BS to OTD program, but it’s very small, and put gerentology school as her second choice, although it’s also small! Any insight on those schools and stats for entry?
There are people on CC that are very knowledgeable about USC and the admissions process, but I haven’t seen anyone gather USC admission stats like Gumbymom does for the UCs.
