My D graduated last year but we registered for housing as soon as it opened. Can’t remember when that was though. She went random for a roommate but had picked out the type of room she wanted. Her McCarthy room was nice!

Congrats to all who got accepted and good luck to those who will get merit interviews!

Not NMSF, only NMF

Are you saying that AP calc AB is easy? Seriously, man?

It says not to

My son is similar. 4.0 UW GPA, NMSF, 1550 SAT, top 3% of class (excellent private school), 9 AP classes (4/5s on all so far), YYGS, US Senate Page Program, 2 national political fellowships, published research project in public policy, Mock Trial Captain, multiple honor societies including president of NEHS, founded Teen Literacy nonprofit. Still deferred. Discouraged.

I’m sorry your kids didn’t get in EA but it has nothing to do with not having the demographics usc wants. 40k kids applied and they accepted less than 3k. Thousands and thousands of kids like yours weren’t accepted. They still have a chance in the RD round. I also find it condescending to say that your kids didn’t take easy AP’s like Cakc AB and physics. I would hardly call those easy and hope their essays don’t portray that tone.

Hello all,
Congrats to all of those accepted! My daughter was deferred. 5.0 weighted (all APs sophomore junior and senior ) 4.0 unweighted. 1 8AP’s. 34 ACT. All 5’s on AP’s. Holds two jobs - CEO of a tutoring company tutoring 3x week and a hosting job. 100’s of community service hours thanks to NCL. Handful of leadership and extracurricular activities involving dancing for the school and other leadership through the school.

We are thrilled she was deferred. There are 6 USC’s legacies in her class. Trojan pride runs deep and this was a super selective process. 2 who’s parents currently work, have all straight A’s at the school but were not admitted EA.

I think having a good back up plan is 100 percent key to this entire experiencw. In at UGA, Indiana U for Business, Penn State, ASU, U of A… waiting on UCLA, UC Berkeley, Columbia Vanderbilt…

I am sorry that didn’t come out right. What I wanted to say was they didn’t double count their Calc (AB & BC) and Physics (1/2 & C)

1000’s of hours of service is utterly amazing. it’s every moment they are not in school and/or studying for school. Super congrats.

Two out of ten from one school is a lot. Colleges can no longer use race as a factor so that is irrelevant. Being ‘not heterosexual’ is not a hook. Maybe they wrote excellent essays about combatting racism and homophobia.

May I ask to which majors they applied? If it is the CS major, that field is just crazy competitive all around the country. I also suspect, though I have no proof of this, that lots of NMF students get deferred because USC knows they will be getting a Presidential Scholarship anyway, so no need to court them now. If your kids are still interested, I am sure they have a great shot at RD.

Please don’t be discouraged. The college application landscape is crazy right now. Hang in there and keep Fighting On!

Yes, chosen major is a factor at USC. SCA, Thornton, Marshall and Viterbi are all very competitive. No disrespect to other fields, but if someone wants to increase his/her odds of getting into USC and is undecided on major, I would pick something in the humanities.

You nailed it. Thanks for the encouragement! Yes they applied to CS & Business. Yeah of course they are still interested. We looked at their schools’ Scoir scatter chart, and we already knew their chance was <20% before tonight’s result. The public schools have more consistent results based on the Scoir charts.

Good for them. The deck has been stacked in my child’s favor all her life, and she recognizes that. Some kids had to navigate much more difficult conditions to get to the same excellent stats and expected leadership positions and ECs. She was deferred and when she wakes up in the morning, I bet she’ll feel better knowing a few kids got spots who have had to deal with people resenting them all their lives just because of who they are.

If you think USC only accepts LGBTQ and black or brown kids, you’ve never been to USC.
