I know you’re speaking figuratively, but how does USC address athletic scholarships? Are recruited athletes among the 2900 EA admits? All the scholarships discussed here are academic scholarships, right? Just curious how athletes addect the admission process for everyone else.
Recruited athletes are separate from these figures. I don’t know what addect means, so don’t understand the question…Google doesn’t either.
I think it is a typo for “affect”
That was it! Thank you. Fat fingers …
lol, not sure why I didn’t figure that out! Addect seemed like it should be a real word! Like to add or maybe dissect…duh me.
Does USC then redistribute the money to a waitlist?
No not at all.
I think it’s around a hundred and then they accept around 50
Applied EA to Dornsife without test scores per college counselor’s advice. Two counselors at my school agreed on this strategy saying that the score wasn’t high enough since it’s not above their 75%ile. One previously worked at USC admissions years (10?) ago. I was deferred. SAT scores are 750 M and 730 EBRW. I am wondering if I should have submitted. If so, is it too late? Would it even make a difference at this point? Would love opinions.
USC will not consider new information for deferred student admissions. I would not send them.
I saw many students, who were admitted, submitted 1400 SAT score and TO. In my opinion, USC is hard to get in but their academic index isn’t high.
When do we expect decisons to come out?
@NellieBelly
For school admittance or scholarships?
I totally feel your consternation on this. My student was advised not to turn in his test scores to UChicago and Yale despite the scores being quite high, and at least a confirmation that he can do the work. After reading the New York Times article that came out about Yale’s decision to end test optional, and my son’s rejection from UChicago I think it was the wrong decision. But really, the guidance counselors and the college counselors were just following the information they were given by the colleges. I think meanwhile there has been a reviewing change of heart at many colleges. And, it may end up feeling a little unfair to your class and next year’s class as well. But what’s done is done, and you still have the strength of your application and the promise that they will review it test optional. You haven’t heard an answer yet, just like my son hasn’t heard back from Yale, stay positive.
Nothing to lose. Submit it.
My son was deferred but just received a request for first semester grades. Is that typical or is it a good sign? ( He got 4.6 on 4.0 scale)
everyone is required to submit their mid year report to be considered for rd
Likely the 22nd, they will post the date soon. They could be as late as 29th, but the 23rd has been their sweet spot for more than a decade. The 22nd is a Friday. Last year, scholarship results came out following day after RD.
April 1st is just a placeholder date they use every year, but is is always before that.
My son received Dornsife invitation to join Thematic Options Honors program.
Anyone has any inside info about it? How hard it is etc? I don’t want him to burn out in his first year at USC, so I’m little skeptical. Any input will be really appreciated.
My son is finishing his second year in the Thematic Options program (TO). It is how he took most of his core classes. In general, from my perspective, it’s a way for students to have smaller class sizes and an extra advisor. The classes are heavily reading, writing, and discussion based. He’s been exploring interesting topics. I think it is a more work, more reward type of thing. It’s easier to make connections with people, and they offer field trips occasionally.
