USC Class of 2028 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

I assume that my S receiving a request for Mid-year grades exactly one week before decisions are released is a good sign right? They wouldn’t waste their time this late in the game unless he was at least being strongly considered right? For context, he applied for first year SCA BFA Media Production and had an interview in mid-Feb that we felt like went pretty well.

I would take it as a potentially good sign. It at least indicates that he may be “on the bubble”, and that they are seeking additional info to make the final decision. In the case of my two daughters, they were each also asked to do so directly via their assigned AOs. Ultimately, they were each eventually admitted RD and attended. Good luck to him…

Ok, the wait for decisions these next two weeks is rough!!! How are people planning to distract yourselves??? USC is my son’s top favorite, but there’s another week beyond for Ivy Day. . . I plan to go to the gym daily, if I can, and do my taxes. Maaaybe that will help.

If as of last week it showed on my portal that they had not received my mid year grades, but today there isn’t anything showing, does that mean that they received it or they just completely dismissed it? I had my Mid Year Report sent in weeks ago, then resent it when it said they didn’t have it, and my counselor even emailed the admissions team and attached it. Is this a bad sign?

Hello, I had a question, is there a reason the AO would ask for mid semester grades if it is in the portal already? Just wondering as my kid uploaded their grades and it is in the portal. And the AO has not contacted her to ask for them specifically. Meaning- I am thinking they are not even looking at the portals and an ask by the AO is a great sign. I hope I wasn’t confusing. TY

It is very confusing to me as well. If the mid-year report has already been uploaded by school before, why are they asking for it again?

We had the same problem, we had to email our school counselor… its a form on common app that needs to be filled out.

Mid year report is different from the grades.

Yes it is different. On the portal you should see both marked as completed.

There’s something besides mid-year transcript that they ask for?

What if the spot for it no longer shows on the portal? Does that mean they have it?

This is the communication my S received regarding mid year grades.

  • You can either self-report your mid-year grades through the applicant portal or use the Mid-Year Report in the Common Application to submit your fall term grades when they become available.

My son only had “midyear report” in Common App which is GC submitted fairly recently. It is listed, however, as “midyear transcript” on USC portal. Much earlier, he received a request for midyear transcript and he uploaded an unofficial one. That one is there too, also as “midyear transcript” just with the earlier date.

But in neither place is there both midyear report and transcript showing as received.

It’s all clear as mud.

A lot of colleges show mid year report on common app as required, but dont show it on the list of required docs on the portal.

so guidance counselors could not submit them through Scoir or email? what if the student doesn’t have access to their mid year grades document?

any portal astrology theories?

Feeling for you and all prospective students and their parents. It is a crazy time and these last few years seem particularly tough.

Personally, I never looked at my kids’ portals. And I didn’t hover around them when decisions were coming out. (Yes, that means I didn’t capture the celebration moments. But it was too nerve-wracking for me. IMO, it is better to let them have their privacy and they could tell me what happens.)

Find a project to keep busy and keep away from the internet as best you can.

If he gets into USC, the wait for Ivy Day will just be like waiting for icing on the cake. And, if not, I’m sure your kid will have other great options. Fight On!

Anyone got aid email asking for more docs?

And I have been very deligent at uploading forms and doubke chking with Finan aid dept for every school in Jan or Feb.

When my daughters’ AOs asked them to submit directly to them their mid-year grades by return email, they had also already each had then been uploaded by their GCs. We are not sure why they replicated the requests. Maybe they wanted to see how they each self-reported. But, it did seem strange… as it was a replication of info. But they each took it as a good sign that their assigned AO was directly engaging with them via email. And in their cases, it turned out to be proven so eventually. Good luck…
