USC Class of 2028 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

SCA has many scholarships awarded specifically for its students. It can also be that university scholarship notices come later for students who require a portfolio/audition. Either way, congrats to your daughter! My son is a sophomore at Roski and is really enjoying the program. That said, UCLA has a great art school so it’s a win-win situation for your daughter!

Dornsife has a scholarship for its students but it’s too late to apply for 2024-2025. There are other scholarships for Dornsife students available as well as Town and Gown and various alumni association scholarships that are open to all students, but I’m not sure if the application deadlines have passed. Click through the webpage to see what’s currently available.

I believe they are already closed for 2023-2024 year. My son applied to couple and is already in interview stages.

My high school senior got into SCA as a spring admit. We’re a bit shocked, in a good way.

Question though…he was accepted for the Film Studies BA, not the Film Production MFA. He applied for both to boost his chances.

Does anyone here know if admitted SCA students can switch programs once they get to campus?

Incoming freshman who is NMF. I applied EA (priority) and was accepted in RD. As long as I enroll and select them as my college to NMSC, USC will provide me with half-tuition correct?

Welcome and Congratulations!

Yes, if you are a NMF and were admitted, you will receive a half-tuition Presidential scholarship.

You need to notify NMSC that USC is your first choice college. After that, it will take a couple of weeks for USC to receive the information and update your FAST page. You can do this before you enroll.

As a Presidential Scholar, you can choose to live in McCarthy Honors College.

@collegemom12345 shared great advice with respect to timing of notifying NMSC, and housing.

You have until 5/31 to specify USC as your first choice to be eligible for the USC Presidential Scholarship. However, I would recommend that you do this by mid-April at the latest if you want to live in McCarthy. The USC housing lottery takes place in early May and you must be designated as a Presidential Scholar before the lottery to be eligible for McCarthy. It takes about 1-2 weeks after you specify USC as your first choice for NMSC to notify USC and then for USC to grant you the scholarship.

Thanks for the suggestion. He is looking into them.

What sort of kids get the spring semester entry offers? My nephew got accepted test optional with 3.8 GPA with a few 3s and 4s on AP exams into Marshall.

I’m admiring the fact that USC is looking much deeper into an applicant besides just gpa unlike UCLA.

For sure. They can’t all admit the same student.

My d24 who is from CA just visited michigan. As a CA kid it was a shock culturally and COLD. Only four months a school year over 60 degrees and it is grey, wet and gloomy a lot of the time. There students were a little more homogeneous in the way they dressed and their cultural
Influences than USC. And while Ann Arbor was cute the surrounding area is suburban sprawl. Most of the international food we had was just average and the cafeteria vegetarian food was some of the worst we had at any school. The campus and facilities were amazing and people very nice but the cold and relatively less visible diverse culture was a deal breaker for her.

That’s great to hear! My son got offered spring admission and is excited but was worried about missing out on fall.

I believe anyone can apply to transfer programs but he will likely have to spend at least a year in the film studies program. I have heard that lots of students from Cinema and Media Studies try to transfer to Production, and since that program only accepts a handful of students a year from all over the world, it will be highly competitive and not be a sure thing by any means.

@WWWard may be able to answer that, but don’t hesitate to call SCA and ask, they are there to help and you are a customer.

The USC School of Cinematic Arts is the most competitive school to get into - so congrats! I’m sure getting in means everything, but you do want to know what lies ahead. It only accepts about 26 undergraduate students into its Production program each year. So you should also know the options he has if wanting to be on the production side. You can also add minors as an option - and SCA has a lot, not sure if one fits his production desires.

This is a thread from 2 years ago (the older threads can have amazing info in them) and it could be worth reading through re spring. I believe there is usually a FB (etc) group as well to discuss spring.

@eeg Congrats! This link will take you to the webpage that describes the process of internally transferring to a different SCA major…

USC Cinematic Arts | Current USC Transfer Application Procedures

It is an actual application process, so the result is not guaranteed. Moving from one major to another within Dornsife, for example, is easy. Doing so within SCA requires approval.

But again… congratulations! Fight on! :v:

Congrats @mamabear300! If you don’t mind me asking, did she get in EA and get notified of a Deans in last couple days or was she RD and you got a surprise Deans uploaded?

Some years they would drop some Deans a few days after RD, but I haven’t heard that yet this year.

Yes, you might want to set boundaries on the credit card for TJ’s and Target! :v:

DS is in, and we’re thrilled.
