winkthief - I live in MD too! Did you get any letters recently?
I never went through the forwarded committee status.
Also, for mid-year grades, do we have to send an official report in, or can we just submit them in online?

icy.jennie.jenje-I think they want both-what I understood from the website was that they wanted us to fill it out online and then have our schools send in our official transcripts.

Also “Completed preliminary review” here…I don’t think this indicates anything besides they have gone through our apps and decide not to offer us any scholarshps. oh well I wasn’t expecting one anyways…just acceptance please T T

I’m excited here! Mine is still on “forwarded for committee review,” and not the preliminary one.

Those of you with the prelim status, what are your stats like?

my status was also changed to :

My speculation is that this means the ones who got this status were passed up for scholarships. (I have a 33 ACT w/ 35 math, applying for engineering, with a 3.91 GPA, so stats are good, but probably not scholarship material)

However, this may be good news, depending on if this was a global status change or not. Of those who have not been notified of acceptances/scholarships or had the forwarded/acted status, does anyone not have the above status? If so it could signify that we’ll be receiving our acceptances soon. Also, it could mean that we’re getting “deferred” in a sense. USC doesn’t actually defer anyone, but asking for possible fall semester grades is basically saying, “you’re not good enough, we need you to prove to us that you’re good/better.” My final analysis (assuming that everyone got the status update, excluding those with acceptances already) is that this simply means they completed a stage of the application review process, and I foresee a second wave of acceptances coming very soon.

Let us know if your status hasn’t changed (unless you’ve already been accepted) so we can gather information to infer what this status change means.

Same as you guys, my status said “completed preliminary review”. HOWEVER, I just compulsively checked not even 30 minutes later, and the status is back to saying “Thank you for submitting your application”. Ugh.

Ehhh, 1930SAT (opps) and 3.88uw…I’ll probably be the last to get any kind of scholarships, sighs. So really, I’m not so positive about this change.

My daughter’s status changed today too – from:

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

To:

“We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/midyeargrades, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st.”

She already submitted her mid-year grades both online and a hard copy about two weeks ago. I had called USC to ask if she could submit the hardcopy or if it had to come “officially” from her high school. They told me she could submit it herself so she printed it out from her school’s grade/transcript portal and sent it in.

oxolojo-my stats aren’t stellar. 3.5 gpa, 31 ACT, 1960 SAT, 500+ hours of community service, IB diploma program, and 2 jobs and 2 internships. So,we’ll see I guess…

I’ve got this new status as well. What do we think it means then?

Wondering if there’s anyone who has not gotten the change, besides ones who have been accepted and who previously had their status changed to “forwarded”?

I was changed to “forwarded” yesterday, but I’m not included in this new status change. Also, I have not received that letter that came in the mail that people are talking about. I hope this is a good sign.

I changed from “being reviewed” to “completed a preliminary review” today as well.

^me too. I think it’s just them showing us that they are working on our applications and that they haven’t forgotten about us.

Hmm I got the prelim too… My stats are decent, 33 ACT, and 3.7/3.9 uw/w GPA… I was really hoping for a scholarship. But after this semester I should have a 4.03-4.05 weighted, so that should help…

Did she just send it to USC Admissions?

My status was changed to “Your application has been forwarded for committee review” several days ago, and is still the same now. No changes, and no letters in the mail either. So who knows!

hmm… this is what I have:

We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/midyeargrades, even if we did not specifically request them.
any thoughts?

2Leashes - yes - she mailed it to the Office of Admissions, University Park Campus address and also submitted the online version. That’s what they told me to have her do.

leslierh, do you mind sharing your stats? And you’re sure your status changed back to the original?

So far you’re the only one. Also, @mimizist, do you have a hook that could give you some weight? For example being a URM gives you a big advantage, or having studied abroad or something like that.

Also, I personally have not received the letter that people said they received about not getting scholarships, then again, I live in KY, so i’d be a decent ways away from where they’d be sending it from, so don’t know if it would legitimately be here yet anyways.

I also had a copy of my new transcript with 7th semester grades sent from my school to USC, as official as it gets. I’m fairly sure they’re not asking you to send grades with this change, so regardless of if you’ve sent grades or not, has your status changed? If you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats so we can gauge if those with the new status have generally higher stats to see if it is a good or bad (or nuetral) sign.
