tocollege: hahahaha hilarious…

Hey einnob, where did you apply to, because cdr777 seems to come up with a pretty legitimate theory.

I wasn’t asked, but I thought I’d share anyway.

I applied to Viterbi [Chem E (nanotechnology)]. I had one of my science teachers (who is a Viterbi alum) write my rec letter.

I applied for architecture.

oh wait, what is your status again cdr777 and oxolojo? the forwarded to committee one?

i just checked my stat and it says something about a prelimary review had been completed…is this a good thing or a bad thing? it just changed to that

i applied to Marshall

mimizist: I thought so, too. Yet they carry on undeterred. Admissions must have REALLY liked my essay if they are still reading it!

thementor5, where do you live? I’m applying Marshall, haven’t gotten the letter, in “preliminary review completed”, 1930SAT(which is ~29ACT) and 3.88UW.

Checked the mail today, still nothing from USC, and I live on west coast. There should have been enough time if a letter was sent on time from Cali.

But seriously, I feel like we should just stop and read over post #337 a few times…maybe it’s just me but I can’t help smiling every time I look back at it.

So far it seems like the status updates may just be random considering the 4 of us with similar stats have different statuses and not all of us received the letter.

Me: "Forwarded for committee review, no letter, location: NY, school: CLAS
Einnbob: “Preliminary status”, received letter, location:?? school: architecture
oxolojo : “Forwarded”, I think received letter, location: ??, school:CLAS
thementor: “preliminary status”, no letter, location: NY, school Marshall

hopefully this will help other people as well as us lol, It makes sense that me and the mentor did not receive the letters yet and so we probably will but everything else seems confusing with the status updates.

Btw, does Adcom work at night? Why do we still have people’s status changing at this time of the day…or is it just an automatic thing?

I just asked several of my friends (from the same school) about this matter. We all have the same stats (SAT I/II similar, rank (give or take a couple spots), ECs, all applied for Viterbi). We all got this letter.

@ mimi, i live in nyc. mail gets to me a lot slower than it does to you, but if you haven’t received it either, then maybe we just won’t get “the letter?” good sign?

Or i probably will get the letter in the next 2 days. lol

It also seems like from the 4 of us, if you applied to CLAS, then your status is “forwarded.” and if you applied to another school, then it’s “preliminary”, so perhaps different schools just give different status names that essentially are the same?

^ 2 days lol, try like 5 I saw on the decisions thread that some people from NY received their admittance which was postmarked the 26th and received Feb 1st.

ya good point from the mentor about the schools having different status updates, does anyone else have a situation that either agrees with this trend or breaks this trend.

^i REALLY dont think the letter is that significant though, I mean, all it says is that we probably wont get the two big scholarships. also I live in california, and i got the letter yesterday.

Be sure to gather enough samples before conducting any calculation or making a conclusion…according to CLT, sample size needs to be over 30 at least wink

but hmm, my situation agrees with the trend in which “if you applied to another school, then status is ‘preliminary’”.

Oh man… everyone else who applied to CLAS has “forwarded.” Mine is still “being reviewed.” Probably a very bad sign…

So youre saying that since we have to be accepted by USC and its individual schools, the preliminary status could mean something like, we’ve passed one step and we still have another review (from the individual schools) to go?
