USC Status Update

“Forwarded” for almost 2 weeks and still nothing.

^nope, absolutely not. i was in the first wave, my status changed to forwarded for one day and then changed back to the original “committee is reviewing…april 1st” by the next day.

i believe that most other people in the first wave had the same situation, although their forwarded status might have lasted two days, but definitely not more than that.

I’m freaking out… my status went from “being reviewed” to “preliminary.” I just checked today (after not checking for 2 or 3 days) and it’s now “completed initial review/first term grades.” I also never got the “you aren’t being considered for trustee/presidential” letter but my friend got it (we live 5 minutes away from each other so there’s no way it was a post office problem).

She also never got a request for midyear grades. However, her status changed to “We received the fall grades we requested, and require no additional information at this time. We will mail decisions to freshman applicants by April 1st.” even though she claims she didn’t send in midyear grades.

I think our stats are about the same. Only difference is I have an upward trend and she has a downward trend. I also have more ECs/volunteering and higher test scores… we both applied to the School of Cinematic Arts. Weird.

“preliminary” for 2 weeks and nothing.

anyone in the same situation?

Still on “preliminary,” been on that since Feb 2.

Like it’s been said many times before, though, I think the only truly indicative status is “the committee has acted on your application.” :)

I’ve had the “forwarded for committe review” status for about 10 days but I just received my mid year grades from my school today and reported them online so I’ll see if anything changes.

cdr777, I reported my grades forever ago.
We don’t have to submit an official transcript right? Those cost me money. ):

I’m not really sure I think we need to send something from our school though like a transcript or report card, when I called it sounded like they just need something official from the school to verify so either report card or transcript is probably ok. Also why does your school charge you money for transcripts that seems so uneccesary do you go to private school?

I’m copy and pasting my post from another thread.

I emailed my local USC rep yesterday and asked about the the online/hardcopy mid-year transcript submission:

"I have recently just received the letter from USC regarding scholarship updates. The letter also specifically asks for my mid-year report for fall semester, while I have already reported my senior grades online through USConnect before the letter arrived. I’m just wondering if it’s necessary to send in another hard copy of my transcript to the admission office; if so, does it have to be officially sealed and sent by my school?

Thanks in advance for the clarification."

and this is the reply I got:

"If you’ve already submitted your fall grades online, you’re all set and can ignore that letter. "

So my understanding is that they will mostly likely need to confirm your grades with the official copy from your school as soon as you are admitted and decide to attend.

and cdr777, I go to a large competitive public HS, and our school charges money for official transcripts as well. It only has to do with specific school policies.

I go to a public school and they charge us for official transcripts as well. :frowning: It’s only $3 but it adds up!

wow I never realized public schools charged for official transcripts, my school doesn’t but that seems really annoying.

Yeah. I go to a public. School in az (don’t try it, not recommended…az is ranked like, last for education). Sending a transcript to one of the in-state public universities is free, but to send them to anywhere else is $5 each and some processing fee, but that is for the whole order, so it saves me money if I send more than 1 at a time.

My school charges $2 per un/official transcript. The trick, though, is to give your apps and stuff to your counselor. S/he will usually ask the registrar to print an official one, often without charge.

status progression: “being reviewed” > “preliminary” > “completed initial review/first term grades” > “received fall grades”

I just got the “paying for college” letter today but I STILL haven’t gotten the no scholarship one. :/

Please keep in mind that this year there are record number of applicants. The admission officers are doing their best to accept students.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had that “status” message. I was on “preliminary review” for two months before it changed to “the committee is currently reviewing your application.”

Also, if you’re a Viterbi applicant and have not received your acceptance, do not worry. The Viterbi Admissions is still looking over your applications.

thanks for the info, r u currently a USC student?

Yes, I am currently a Freshman at the Viterbi School of Engineering.

thats awesome, any advice for us usc hopefuls! and how is usc, the place, the people, student life! when did you find you were admitted march or april?

Admitted fall students will hear by the end of March. The first week of April is rejections.

USC is one of those places where you will feel like home. Everyone is nice and there are so many activities that are happening all at once.

@ mimizist. hey but after you submit your midyear grades online, isn’t there a sign that tells you to send in a hardcopy of your report card?

so im guessing from what the USC rep told you, this is not necessary and the self-reporting is all that’s needed?
