well, for me, i got ‘Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee’ from preliminary thing. what the hell is thissssssssssss.

and my stat is not great… sat superscored 2120, sat2 700, 630, 3.9gpa but only one
ap class.
what are ur stats those who got “application is being reviewed?”

Do you guys get a date with every status change on your application status page? I never have, and looking at last years threads most people state that their status had changed on such and such date.

Checking my status has been a huge source of stress for me as there appears to be a bug in MY system. I mentioned it before on CC here and there, but it seems I’m the only affected one. My status changes back and forth from 1. prelim to 2. unable to process to 3. committee is reviewing to 4. Thank you for your online application. I was so happy this morning because along with some others my status settled on “committee is reviewing”. NOW…it’s back to “Thank you for your online application”. I really don’t want to call admissions because I’m sure they’re getting bombarded with calls regarding status questions. Anyone else’s status reverting back and forth?
I just read this over and it sounds so whiny…but it’s how I feel at the moment!!

lesliehr, I can definitely see how this experience would be stressful. Even when considering how finicky this status update system is proving to be, your case seems quite extreme and, to the best of my knowledge, unique.

To answer your question, S doesn’t get to see the date when a status change has occurred. Maybe the system was different last year…?? Also, I understand your reluctance to call the admissions office, but I do think that one would be justified in contacting them if one’s status bounced like this. I personally find email less disruptive than phone calls, so maybe you can email your area representative instead of calling. This way, the representative could look into the matter and respond at his/her convenience. Good luck!

My d went from submitted (Dec) to preliminary (Jan after audition) and submit mid year grades(and no scholarship letter) to unable (yesterday) to being reviewed(today). I think the unable just meant they were working on the system. The differences in status and forwarding may just reflect your choice of major. Just a guess.

TomisMom, thanks for replying. Here’s what I did. I did call USC and spoke with a very nice admissions rep. She also expressed surprise at my issues with my application status. She checked my file and said my application is currently being reviewed (which is what my last status was this morning before it changed to “Thank you for submitting your online application”. So I guess I’m satisfied that things SEEM to be progressing in the right direction…which was my main concern. Thanks again, and good luck to your son.

If you have the status “your application is currently being reviewed” it means that the admission committee is ACTUALLY reviewing your application. I hope this will clear things up.

^applewater I’m not sure about that, after submitting my application originally my status was “your application is currently being reviewed” and than changed to forwarded for committee review a couple weeks ago. I never had the preliminary status.

i think that changing from “currently being reviewed” to “forwarded” is a fluke in the system…cuz it doesn’t make sense for the committee to review something then forward it back to themselves…unless they actually have a legit reason

I’m pretty sure currently being reviewed doesn’t actually mean that they are reviewing it at that moment because right after submitting my application my status was “currently being reviewed.” I also believe most of the first wave acceptances had “currently being reviewed” before their status’s got changed to “forwarded” some1 correct me if I’m wrong on that.

I believe laure327 is referring to this year’s applicants who have been accepted and invited to interview for the big scholarships. In their case, the pattern has been to go from–and I’m quoting from memory–“your application is currently being reviewed by the admissions committee” to “your application has been forwarded to the admissions committee for review” and then to “we have acted on your application”. I agree that it doesn’t make much sense to go from “being reviewed” to “forwarded for review”–if anything, it should be the other way around–but this is what happened this year. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the clarification. I agree it doesn’t make sense. I thought it was the other way around. Still not clear on order of “currently being reviewed by admission committee” to “forward to admission committee for review.” If this is correct, then if my son’s status is “forward” then the assumption is he is just waiting for the acceptance or rejection. Another thing to consider, maybe “forward” has something to do with he is being considered for some type of scholarship.

Considering that many people may be evaluating an applicant’s file, it’s hard to know if the generic term “admission committee” may refer to your regional admission rep (first eyes), the admissions committee who makes the final evaluation for CLAS, or the the adcom from the various schools (Marshall, SCA, Thornton, Theatre, etc). Each of these might be the ones to which a file is “forwarded” “Currently being reviewed” and back and forth. Since there seems to be a mysterious coordination between all these entities, it’s safe to say these status updates tell us almost nothing.

But each year there are determined students and parents who do try. I have a suspicion that USC is not trying to torture students nor test their endurance in withstanding such stressful mumbo jumbo, but that the e-statuses are updated automatically by their system as certain files move around internally at USC. The pattern of movement may tell something or nothing, depending on how many schools/majors were applied to.

Hang in there. Only a few more weeks. And best of luck.

I give up trying to decipher the status. Madbean has brought to our attention so many variables. My son has three college acceptances. If he doesn’t get into USC, he does have other choices. Oh well, we’ll just have to wait.
