IIIII-Thanks. I’ll call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Nonstopskratchin: I am also a hopeful Music Industry major, but for Fall of 2008. What other things have you done as far as M.I. experience? The internships should definitely help you.

confused_junior, im pretty sure the only reqs are the two english courses and intermediate algebra.

Are there any other Junior Transfers in here who haven’t recieved a decision/grade request in here?

Sophmore Transfer here
Thornton
No Spring Grades request
No reject/accept letter
Nada
Nothing

i havent recieved a decision, but i do not expect one until july. as far as ‘spring grades request’ goes, i havent gotten one, but it goes without saying that since i have a prereq in progress and i applied to marshall, i need to send the grade in before they render my decision.

i haven’t received my decision yet! And I applied to Marshall either.

Could the accepted students possibly post or PM their essays?

I’ll give you an idea of what my essay was just to show that they don’t mean much. I used the same ones for UC’s and I got into UCLA. I pretty much said that I was like a peanut butter and jelly sand-which and how my family makes up parts of the sand-which and how they shaped my life, affected me, blah blah blah etc. etc.

keerey - lol, no offense, but that sounds like the cheesiest essay ever. I bet your other stats were great though.

Essays really matter if an applicant is borderline. It’s the one chance (out side of the optional interview that no one does) that an applicant really has a chance to seperate themselves from the throng of other SC hopefulls.

anyway, with how competitive admissions is this year, I’m really expecting a grade request and not getting one yet kind of worries me. I’m far from a shoe in, but My stats are too strong to recieve an immediate rejection. I’m ****ing confused, lol.

no offense taken my essay was a joke. I really had nothing to say so I kind of copied my cousin who go’s to berkley, her essay was about her being an oreo. It just shows that gpa is the most important factor, I didn’t have any work experience, minimal ec’s, no special circumstances.

So I received my request for spring grades the other day.
The question is do you think that carrying only 9 units currently will affect my admission decision. I started the spring semester with 18 units until I got called to active duty for about 4 weeks in the middle of the semester. Is there a way to explain this to them? I believe my veterans affair counselor can vouch for me.

I was able to make arrangements in 3 of my classes which are microecon, history of the middle east, and a bs student success class. I’m really stressing taking only 9 units this semester. Is or was anybody else taking less than 12 units when they were asked for spring grades?

BTW my stats include:

-HS: Nothing to brag about
-4 years active duty Air Force
-Santa Monica College: 3.79 GPA
Roughly 45 units completed
Dean’s List 3 Semesters
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
College Republicans

Completed USC writing, language, math, and ge’s category

*applying as a history major

SC, I don’t think taking 9 credits one semester is a huge deal (I only took 10 last semester), but dropping 3 classes would raise a red flag so yes, end a letter with your grades explaning why u dropped those classes, especially since you have an excellent reason why.

thanks for the help golden! btw, only one of the classes that i dropped show up as a “w” on the transcript, but i did put on the usc application that i was currently taking 18 units

Either way, send a letter just to let them know whats up.

I think there was someone on these boards who go into SC taking only 9 quarter units at a UC when s/he was asked for spring grade and got in.

The only thing that might hurt you is that the Student success class is not transferable, so that would really mean you were tkaing like 6 credits this semester, but your situation makes it more acceptable then if, lets say, I was taking the class.

anyway, a 3.75 with 45 units completed is good for a regular applicant and great for a history major. I’d check how many of those units are transferable though.

I just got accepted a few days ago, though now I have a few more things to worry about, assuming I decide to go:

1) How likeable is it to receive on-campus housing for an incoming sophomore? I would be coming out of state and it would be a real hassle to find off-campus housing in such a short time.

2)Were we supposed to find out our financial aid status by now? I checked oasis and it hasn’t updated with any info even though it shows that I turned in all completed forms.

Any help would be great!

Matthew M-Yea I’m hoping Fall 2008 as well. I talked to someone in the Thornton office and it’s like a combined 18% freshman and transfers that get accepted to Thornton in general. I havn’t done much else in M.I. experience except my Internships I’ve tried managing artists before but those always fell apart.

if you wait closer and closer to the deadline to send your spring transcripts, do you think theres less of a chance to get in ?

IIIII, personally, i think so.

I do too. Would make sense.
